I have friends who use cotton and love it. I was just saying that I would not use it on Kayfuns or Genesis style due to the scorching risks and the hassles when it does happen. I'll post some pics of a chimney coil style build using silica strands, and some pics of Helios coils too
Thanks everyone. I have started to use Silica. Flavor has been compromised, but I am not dealing with the "scorched" cotton taste after a dry hit.
Its a shame as the cotton worked the best when it did work, but one careless pull followed by a dry hit killed the cotton causing me having to re-wick.
I guess I am going to need to play around with Silica builds until I can dial in a sweet spot. I long for the day where you fill and vape. I enjoy messing around with builds, but it would be nice to have a device that vapes flawlessly from start to finish tank after tank.

Wicking with the right type - and amount - of material can be a royal PIA, to be sure!! You'll find what works best for you.....just gotta "experiment" awhile....then, when it finally comes together....BAM!

It just feels like I am always making a sacrifice. More vapor at the price of taste. Taste at the price of vapor. Sweet bakery juices at the price of wicking. Wicks that wick better at the price of flavor. Wicks that deliver great flavor at the price of longevity.
And to compound the problem, the more juices I have in rotation, the more I need to tinker with builds.
It will come together I am sure at some point. Just frustrating. After 2 years of not smoking, I was about 30 seconds away from buying a pack yesterday. Whenever I lit up a cig, I knew what I was going to get and it always delivered what I expected. Sucks to pickup my mod, take a draw just to get the foul burn taste. Trying to vape outside, I work outside, the cold was making the velocity way to think to even begin wicking adequately.
Ambient temps are a big deal - flooding in the summer, poor wicking in the winter.
You're absolutely right - the single largest obstacle to the wide-spread dissemination of vaping is a "simple" solution. ECF is a haven of enthusiasts who are on the bleeding edge of the industry, but - take it off this forum into the community - you're likely to get that deer in the headlights look when you start spewing the vape enthusiast lingo. Keep in mind, we're all on similar paths... it's about helping those who are less experienced, and getting help from people experience in other areas. The vaping community is a paradigm for life.
