Need suggestions for my dad please. Heavy smoker who just had a heart attack..

Ok would greatly appreciate some advice..

My dad (61) just had a heart attack yesterday.. Had 100% blockage in one artery and got a stent put in.. He's doing good now but I'm thinking of "now what?"

He's been a 2-3 pack smoker a day for 20-30 years.. He's tried to stop a few times (gum) with no luck.. My main concern is that he's not really "tech" savy.. Reading some of the replies worries me with all you have to do. He's a major blue-collar worker (burial vaults, buries people) so I just can't see him whipping this thing out and being able to use it in that environment (very dirty, etc)..

Can someone recommend a site and a good "kit" to get him started? I don't want something cheap as I want to get him one that works great to give him the best chance at quitting..

Thanks much!

Welcome tbird and I'm sorry to hear about your dad. The same thing happened to mine 10 yrs ago and the doctor made it clear that it was the smoking that had caused it. He was lucky and got scared enough to never touch another cigarette again. Hopefully your dad may have the same attitude. If not, hopefully we can all help guide you to what will help get him started with e-cigs.

The only recommendations I can give are based on my personal experience. Other members will come along with theirs also:)

He's a heavy smoker, so he would most likely need a device that has a decent enough battery to keep him going without having to change out batteries every couple of hours. That means the "looks like a cigarette" options may not work. So, the first recommendation is for an eGo or Riva starter kit. They are larger than a regular cigarette, but not so large that somebody new to these couldn't easily get used to. You can find these at several places like Liberty Flights, Cignot, LiteCigUSA.net, etc...

He may also be more comfortable using cartomizers rather than an atomizer/cartridge set up. The cartomizer is one piece, holds nearly a ml of liquid, and can easily be screwed onto the battery for a couple of hours of use without having to refill.

Another option that is a step down on battery life, but still resembles a cigarette is a kr808d-1 model. These can be a lot simpler for someone just starting out or (like you said) is not tech saavy. Vapor4Life carries a wide variety of these kits and prefilled cartomizers. The prefilled cartomizers may be the easiest and quickest way to introduce him to the e-cig and see if he has any real interest in it. If he does, the cartomizers can be easily refilled later on with liquid.

I hope this helps a little bit and that your dad makes a quick recovery.

well first off, im sorry to hear about your father. and second i think a tornado tank from totoallywicked-eliquid.com would work for your dad. the battery will easily last your dad all day and he wont need to refill the liquid as often as well everything else. but if he looking for something that will last him all day and looks like an analog, then i recomend a mega 510 (also known as titan, yeti, and a few other names that i cant remember) and if he decides on the 510, then i recomend ordering from madvapes.com. also you will want 2 mega 510 batteries to ensure that it will last all day long.

I do want to add just on more thing...

Make sure this is approved by his doctor, especially since he just had the heart attack. The vaping vs. smoking is not what my concern would be, but when adjusting to vaping, it can be difficult for someone to find the proper nicotine level. Starting out with too high of a level may lead to more problems since nicotine is a stimulant. So, just make sure you have all of the information necessary and ask his doctor if there would be any concerns on his part. We certainly wouldn't want to take a bad situation and suddenly make it worse.

Trouble2K has nailed it. I highly recommend the Riva from Liberty-Flights with cartomizers. That is what I start people out on who want low start-up maintenance. If he takes to it, then he may want to branch out, but that's the easiest set-up to deal with in the beginning. You may need to keep his cartos filled for him until he figures out how easy it is. It always "seems" more complicated than it really is. Good luck.

Hi Tbird and welcome!

How wonderful that you are bird dogging this for your father. This is the 2nd time in 12 hours that I have complimented "child" caring about their parent! What is happening to the youth of today!!!

I think you have a great idea coming here for him, I wonder how tech savvy he is or if you can help him connect with the forum? There are so many choices here and so much support! If he has a chance to read us he will see we were all big time smokers and we have helped each other get over the cigs with a huge helping hand from the e cigs themselves!

I think checking with the doctor would be a very good idea - not only will you get some guidelines but it may be a teachable moment for the doctor and help other patients who come along.

Good luck to you and your father and I hope to "see" you again soon.

You have gotten alot of great advice from several people and I too am sorry to hear about your
dads heart attack. My best to him and you as well.

Being that he is not "tech" savy as you stated, I would offer a opinion from recent experience.
I have a friend who is a senior and not "tech" savy in any way. Even though she see's what I do with my Provatpe and cartomizers...it was still "too much" for her, in her own mind.

I ordered one of the free disposable cigs from Apollo for her. She absolutely loves it! It's prefilled and she simply puffs.
She spouts it out and about and shows her other friends as well. This one unit lasted her about a week and 1/2. She came to me yesterday, to order her 2 more. She is on the road to vaping and I would not have probably gotten her there, if not for the disposable ones. It works for her. Total cost per month at this rate will probably be about $40.00 for her.

So that perhaps is my suggestion at first. Disposable, no cartomizers, no juice, just "puffing".

Then if he get's on the vape train....then perhaps a gentle move to a little more complicated unit with cartomizers and juice...or even better yet, a bottom fed juicer!!! (Reo of course)

Best of luck to you and your father.

My mother is 78 and smoking 60 years and never turned on a computer. I got her the smoke tip kit and ordered about 40 pre-filled carts from V4L. I did all that because it's easy. It was $59 with a lifetime warranty on batteries. She even lit one (don't ask) and I told them and they're sending her another one free.

Since she tried mine she said she likes it better (ego) so I ordered her a riva because of more vapor and TH. She does still like the look and feel of the Smoke tip better.

Even though she used the Smoke Tip for a short period of time, it was well worth it. She goes back and forth between both.

I do charge it for her and fill the cartos most times. But she can fill them herself.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but it's wonderful what you're trying to do. I agree with trouble2k. You should maybe check with his doctor first. Nicotine is a vaso-constrictor. Of course, if he's going to smoke anyway.... That being said, texasgranny had a great idea about the disposibles. (a good disposible!) That way, he can see what vaping is about. If he likes it, then you can help him find something that he can work with, cartomizers and juice, etc. I don't own one, but a bottom feeder might do the trick.
