Hello all;

I'm new to ecigs and have smoked menthols for the last 28 years. Typically about 10 cigs to no more than a pack a day (.7MG per cig (Basic Menthol Lights)). Yesterday I bought a Cig2o menthol unit to get my feet wet. I bought it at a local B&M cig shop. Nothing else offered in my town. I think the Cig2o is ok, just trying to get used to it. Don't really care for the menthol taste of the Cig2o though. The Cig2o is an auto ecig. Several times while drawing I get cut off by the auto circuit. Don't mind that so much as I understand it draws for 5 seconds before it shuts off. Just have to get used to that. I do like the idea of using flavors. I'd like to match my nic intake as close as possible right out of the gate. Over time I want to cut down on nic intake, but don't really care to quit totally. I don't mind the idea of refilling my own carts.

Can I get suggestions for kits or otherwise to get an ecig that will allow me to refill easily, has a long lasting battery, perhaps pen style. I'm not looking for something flashy, actually low key is preferred. Most likely won't mod anything. What % nic should I start with?

On my Cig2o, it comes with five 18mg cartomizers. If I understand the math correctly, the Cig2o cartomizer should hold a ml of 18mg nic liquid. So this is pretty much equivalent to a pack of cigs at .9mg nic per cig? If so, sounds like I want to start with an 18mg cart?

thanks all;

Yes 18mg is a good place to start

Very true. Overlooked that part. BUT! A cartridge is not equal to a pack of cigarettes on any device I have seen (I haven't used the XL cartridges for the eGo), but a cart seems to be closer to 3 to 5 cigarettes worth.

are the Joye eGo carts easy to fill?

Very much so. You just drip juice onto the filler! There are a lot of modifications you can make to the carts to make them work better. Search the forums for: Blue Foam mod, and PTB Mod.

A lot of people also use a "drip tip". This is a mouthepiece that connects to your atomizer with an open mouth end. You drip juice right into the atomizer. This gives optimal flavor and vapor. It also eliminates the need for carts.

I know i am a broken record on this topic, but strongly recommend getting cartomizers for new users...

Cartomizer = atomizer and cartridge in 1 piece.

I see that in the eGo kits they already come with cartomizers. Can they be refilled? I'm pretty technical so refilling doesn't scare me off.

Really? Most EGO kits come with cartridges and not cartomizers. Cool if that is the case.

Most cartomizers are easy to fill. Some use the drip method. I use the "condom method". I think that method is far easier, but you lose a little juice on the sides perhaps. I like easy, so that is my method.

EGO kit for $55 at LiteCigUSA. I am almost 100% certain it still comes with cartridges - not carto's. Perhaps others have changed up their kits.

EDIT: I just looked at Liberty Flights as well. Cartridges. I would review it closer to be certain. Cartomizers are $8 for a box of 5. You will likely need 10 to use and refill anyhow...

so you basically refill it from the end you draw from? 15-20 drops/1ml? Basically rewetting some type of absorbent material inside?

I find them easier to refill and less messy than cartridges. I just drip in 20 or so drops spin top off and vape. Sometimes I leave out the spin part and just let them soak in.
The Ego comes either way or with both carts and cartos.

I highly recommend whatever device you get make it a manual.

Drip tips eliminate the need for carts. Carts are what have the "filling" inside. Drip tips essentially they allow the juice to flow directly to the atomizer. The difference is you have to put more in every couple of puffs. The reason many like that is more taste...the reason many use cartomizers = simplicity and long lasting before refilling...

well I could have my models mixed up as relates to the unit coming with cartos or carts.

Great. I guess some offer it that way. Either way you will need at least 10 cartomizers, in my view. They do not last forever anyhow.

Keep in mind many prefer the atomizer/cartridge combo. Many others - like me - do not like them at all. You likely will not know what you prefer until you try both setups.

Edit: In fact, I got out my atomizer/cartridge again yesterday to try it again. I think that setup does provide a stronger hit. But the great hits only last a few puffs in my view. You likely need to try both ways....

And since you are technical oriented and likely do not mind fiddling... you will likely be dripping also... in addition to either carto's or carts...

hmmm, the carto has 18mg written on it. I know my smokes were .7mg each. the guy at the store told me each carto was about the same as a pack of cigs. Math sounded pretty close at the time. Is this not right?

definitely don't think I want to do the drip thing. That is just what my geekiness doesn't need! :)

Definitely not right. It's a sales tactic. Unless that model has a massive cartridge, you'll soon find that it won't last as long as a pack of cigarettes.

As for the nicotine, a lot of it gets lost in the vaporization of the liquid. There's some threads here on ECF about the conversion rates.

I haven't tried it yet, but sure I will eventually out of curioisty. One thing to consider is this. If you go out and around, if you have cartomizers you just stick a handful in your pocket and use them whenever. With carts I do not think they last long enough where that is a great option. Everything - depends with e-cigs...:2cool:

can you tell me what you mean by "spin top off" and "leave out the spin part and just let them soak in"??
Some people put their "new" cartomizers in a sock after they add some juice, sling it around & let the centrifugal force push the juice to the bottom of the carto.
Some use a syringe to inject them. Either works & is faster than letting them soak.
