Need tech advice by someone who knows the Joye EGO (i think it is an atomizer problem)

hi,
i bought a joye ego kit and have been using it daily since i got it in February. I drip on it (i heard from this site) because i take out the cart filler and drip liquid in w/o putting the filler back. i have never cleaned it and it still used to work fine. then i tried to clean it. i searched this site and founds tons of 19 step processes with special tools to clean that was way too complex for me. so i took the atomizer off blew from both ends (nothing much happened) then dropped them (2) in a plastic cup with rubbing alcohol. i let it sit for 10 min then rinsed it in tap water and i stood it up to dry. i used it not long after.

Now one of my (i guess) atomizers is not working. it gets a hit, but there is very very little vapor on one of the atomizers, i do get TH however. one out of 40 hits on the one that went bad is good. Now I am just using the same atomizer on both my batteries, cuz it works.

so is this the atomizer? by that i refer to the part that goes between the cartridge and the battery. did it go bad because of the way i cleaned it? if so does anyone have a SIMPLE way to generally clean this?

also if you recommend i replace the atomizer, ive found they seem expensive, would it be better just to order a new kit of 2 egos because they are very cheap these days if batteries eventually go too?

thanks! ;-)

Yes, the part that is going bad is an atomizer. However, I bet it's clogged. The atomizer is the heating element. Did you do a dry burn? Basically, after cleaning and drying, put it on your battery and fire it until you see bright orange. Dry burning removes the gunk from the heating coil.

I highly recommend getting some spares. If a kit comes out to be cheaper, then go for it since you get extra batteries and a charger, all of which can quit at anytime.

Here is the instructions on dry burning a 510 atty. You don't need to use an external fire source, just the battery.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html (not MY method.. that's just the name of the post)

(Disclaimer here, I've never tried this myself. I have given up on Atty's a while ago. I use my remaining atty's to drip on a 5v Pass through. I've never performed these steps myself.)

My advice is to get yourself some low resistance cartomizers, these work great Refillable 510 Cartomizers 2.0ohm
The advantages is they are cheap. under $10 for 5. A 5pack should last you a month easily, and they barely cost more then a pack of analogs. Less refilling and messing around. Low resistance 2.0 ohm will give you nice warm vapor and throat hit. There are many reputable vendors that sell them, Mad Vapes is one of many.

The downsides are that filling them is a small learning curve, there are many methods. If you should happen to decide that is a good route, then i suggest you use the search feature, look up "filling cartomizers" and "condom fill"

For me, i'll never probably never go back to standard attys. Carto's are in my "sweet spot".

hey gernsey, thanks for the post i tried it a couple times and it seems to gradually be working better, the problem is my unit (joye ego) does not have an orange light, and i cannot see a coil.so i just hit it on white light a bunch of times. i think i may need to do it a few because i feel like i am doing something wrong.

i am looking into cartomizers, i found a few threads here that said they drip into them and dont do the condom thing or syringe thing. is this possible on the cartos for my model? thanks again for the help!!

I don't think you are understanding fully what is being said. By dry burning, you connect the atomizer to your battery. You push the button on your battery, and look at the opening of the atomizer (you do not have the cartridge connected) and look for an orange glow inside the atomizer.

Keep in mind that all parts are disposable. Some atomizers will last for months, some for weeks. Cleaning them on occasion will extend the life of the atomizer, but eventually they will need to be replaced. If you plan on keeping the eGo for a long time, invest in some atomizers, or switch to cartomizers. You can get a good deal on a 10 pack of atomizers from vaporkings.com.

When dripping, are you putting the drops in the cartridge with the filler removed, or dripping straight onto the atomizer?

thank you. you are correct i was not fully understanding. i did what you suggested and there is no light coming out, at all, so i guess my atomizer is dead (?). there is a noise being made and the push button flashes after a bit like it would if you were sucking on it, but nothing other than that and a slight smell. i have been putting the juice in the directly cartridge and taking out the filler for dripping.

i guess i need to get those cartomizers and deal with all of that since i am doing it this way, although i have evaded til now it b/c as you can tell i am not good with this stuff, and now i have to go get a syringe and all of this.:?:

lavixen...I recommend buying Boge cartomizers for your eGo. Good flavor, TH, and vapor. Remove the mouthpiece, hold at a 45 degree angle, and drip 20-25 drops in down the sides (for a new one). Try to avoid the center hole. let it soak for 15 minutes so the juice saturates the filler completely. Gently blow through the carto to clear the airhole. Add a drip tip in place of the mouthpiece, screw onto battery, and vape yourself silly. When flavor or vapor start to die off, remove drip tip (I do but some people don't) and drip in some more juice. The filler inside should look saturated but not pooling.

They are cheap enough to toss when the draw starts to get hard. Other option is to clean them. There are loads of threads about that on ECF.

just to make sure you fully understand again. What you are trying to do with a dry burn is get the atomizer hot to the point that the coil inside gets red hot and burns off gunk that is stuck to it. You may need to press and hold the button multiple times to get it hot enough. Your ego is blinking because there is a safety cutoff after so many seconds. This may not be long enough to properly clean. after it shuts off press and hold the button again. When doing this you WILL be able to see an orange glow when you look into the top of the atomizer. If you don't see an orange glow you are not getting it clean. You may have done it correctly and the atomizer just needs replacing, but I just get the feeling you didn't quite understand exactly how long you have to hold down the button. If there is any juice or water in the atty you have to burn all of that away before it will get hot enough to burn the gunk off. Just thought I'd make sure you're on the same page. Once it glows orange hold for a few seconds and release for a few seconds and then get it hot again and release. Pulse like that 5 times or so and you will be ready to drip in there again. Good luck.

thank you hairball for the good advice - i will buy those so i dont kill the whole unit with this. would i have to use a drip tip tho? could i just suck on the cartomizer? thanks much also for the filling it up instructions also, i read around here before and couldn't grasp it, which is why i never used it. thanks again for all the help here! id be a 2 pack a day smoker without you all!

thank you halftodoit! i started trying again, and now still no orange, but it actually if i suck on it produces vapor. so i guess i'll suck it down w/o a cartridge and see if i can revive it for a small stretch by burning all that off, it sounds like exactly what my problem is. thank you or laying it out in layman's terms.

Best thing to invest in as a vaper is a multimeter. Helps trouble shoot issues that come up with wear and tear on our gear. For example with your atty that was acting up just pull the resistance on it. If its wayy outa spec from what its supposed to be chances are its shot and not worth the trouble. You can also test your batteries, but its difficult without help.
