To summarize:

You probably need some VG in your e-liquid, enough to create some vapor. I believe I was adding too much Walmart Glycerin. I also think 60/40 from FSUSA is probably too much for my sensitive gums. I don't know at this time if I'll have no problems from now on using 80/20 or 90/10, but I kind of doubt that I will have gum soreness if I don't add too much Glycerin from Walmart. My plan is to not add more than 10% to 15% Walmart Glycerin and keep my FSUSA liquid at around 80/20 or possibly 90/10 -- or maybe 100pg in the future, I don't know. This stuff takes a lot of experimentation, and I started vaping on 09/14, so I'm still new at this.

Deb,

See how many of us have shown interest in your mixture? hahaha FSUSA should just make it and call it "deback's fave" ;)

:) Well, who doesn't like caramel apples with nuts? Adding the RY4 gives it a little richer, smoky tobacco flavor, I think. I love caramel apples, and they were one of my food obsessions a few years ago -- ate one to three caramel apples every day for about three months, until Walmart quit selling them sometime in December or November.

Geesh, I think I'll quit typing in this thread right now, or it will turn into two novelettes. haha

Been researching suppliers all morning. Came up with this: Went to Vaporite (touted to be all natural, no additives, no artificial colorings, etc.) Ordered virginia tobacco and Hazelnut tobacco (all 100%pg based). I have food grade organic vegetable glycerine already....which to my understanding is the vg base used in e liquids. When the liquids arrive, I'll try vaping it at 100%dg. Can then experiment with adding no more than 10 percent vg to the mix. It may dilute the flavor, but at 10 percent I doubt I'll notice any difference. The idea behind all of this is to avoid all fruity, menthol/mint, acid flavors. I also threw into the order some chocolate and caramel. Chocolate has always been a friend of mine, so it should be OK. That's my dessert plan of attack. The caramel was a 70/30 dg/vg blend, so will just have to see how that one goes. The chocolate can be dealt with as the tobacco flavors will be. I've tried Vaporite before (all vg). I did like the flavor, but as stated, a sore tongue ensued. So....it's now onto the dg. Wish me luck. I'll report back. Thanks again so so so much.

Becky -

I hope it all works out for you!

That's the problem with vaping - there are so many factors that can cause problems, we are all different, and it takes a lot of experimenting to find out what works best for each of us. PG, VG, nicotine level, battery voltage, flavorings, not to mention which battery to use, cartomizers or atomizers, drip tips or cartridges, bridge or no bridge, and on and on.

After two months of vaping, I still don't know if I'll stick with my current setup. But I think I will for a while, anyway.

For almost two years, I've been adding cherry juice to my Pepsi every time I go get more ice (several times a day for about six cans of Pepsi a day) and don't know when I'll get tired of it. Still eating oliveburgers every day (with my special oliveburger sauce, of course) for over three months and still eating New York Ciabatta rolls almost every day for about a year. One of these days, and I never know when, I'll get tired of something and find a new obsession. :)

Deb, you honestly have me beat hands down with food obsessions. I thought mine were bad. Just finished a French Burnt Peanut craze. It went on for about 2 months. One day I'll get up and the craving is just gone. I never know what's next, but there is always something. Nice to know I'm not the only "bit strange" person out there. Ha. Great having someone understand this. Have to admit I'm obsessive about everything. Not an excessive hand washer yet, but who knows? Did note that drinking coffee/tea strong caffeine irritates my tongue too. Combine that with smoking/vaping and it's worse. Maybe I can find some kind of condom for my tongue to wear all the time !!!!! Now there's an idea. OK, getting crazy. Will keep you updated. I won't stop until this is solved...not in my nature. Thanks again.

I REALLY recommend the Top Vapor juice at madvapes, ALL VG, extremely cheap, they offer high nic levels in up to 60ml bottles ($14 bucks for 60ml of a juice that I REALLY like is awesome). I recommend Very berry, Maple Cream, and strawberry short cake, I've also heard good things about their kick-... caramel

Becky, Sorry to hear about the difficulty with irratation from vaping....There is a light at the end of the tunnel though....at least that has been my experience. I started vaping in 8/2009 and went analog free in 10/2009. After just vaping for a few weeks I had a lot of tounge, gum and inside of cheeks irritation. I delveloped some white patches at the back of my throat and thought...this aint gonna work! I researched (and went and got checked by the doc) and found that the patches were Leukoplakia - Leukoplakia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - which I read was not uncommon for new vapers and though the irritation is very uncomfortable, it does pass. I think it was the first 2-3 months before I stopped having irritation. During the research, I became aware that I had been marinating the inside of the mouth with the toxic cocktail of 10,000 chemicals or so present in cigarette smoke for the past 37 years! So hang on and have hope. Your body will go through many changes just as if you quit smoking - just way less withdrawel. I had a few things that really stood out...my lungs got clearer than I could remember...I may still wheeze occasionally but nothing like when I smoked! I started coughing up tar for a couple few weeks after stopping. My gums started bleeding like CRAZY after a couple months - which I read about was due to your gums actually getting blood flow back into them! Smokers have a grey pallor to their gums because...of all the marinating -eyuck! That resolves and gums become more sensitive and any underlying gingavitus becomes mor apparent. About 3 months or more aftrer vaping I started thinking that people and things were starting to smell more for some reason...I couldn't figure it out for a while it was like...wow thats nice perfume or wow...they really need a shower....or wow I can really smell the water, trees, grass, food, coffee...whatever. Then I did some googling and it hit me...my sense of smell was just coming back! All those odors were there all along! I probably hadnt much of a sense of smell for 25 years! The point is you just need to remember the mantra ---vaping is better than smoking---Best of luck!

Very good points! Yes, some of the mouth pain we might experience is from the inside of our mouths going through the healing process after we quit smoking. I'm sure that's what caused the pain in my gums initially (for about five days) and the recent pains I had in each cheek (back by where my wisdom teeth used to be, right in the middle) that lasted for about five days on each side - at different times, not at the same time.

I've had burning type of pains on the roof of my mouth, my tongue, my throat, and chest from the extra heat from the 5 volt passthroughs.

I've had gum pain from too much VG (too much sugar in the Glycerin).

I've had throat and chest pain from a nicotine strength that was too much for me.

It's definitely not easy to identify what causes each different pain, especially for new vapers, but after about two months of vaping, it becomes much easier to know what causes what.

I'm waiting patiently for Monday. Having been back on analogs for 2 days my tongue is completely fine. When I tested it using one puff from the ego with 100%vg based e liquid, it burned for an hour and a half. Therefore.....ordered 100%db based juice from Vaperite (hoping to avoid all artificial ingredients) and will try the 100%dg, then begin adding small percentages of the vegetable glycerine (food grade) to see if there is a problem. This will all be logical trial and error. When I was vaping before for 6 weeks, my cough was gone, taste was good, smell was significantly improved, and I was one happy vaper. This tongue issue set me back...slightly....but my desire to go back to vaping is just as strong as ever. I will get this figured out. No doubt in my mind I prefer vaping to smoking. I somewhat doubt that it is a "healing" process....I think it's more of a cumulative vg use issue. We will see how it goes with the dg as the higher ranking base. Bear in mind, my body has proven sensitive to many things that ordinarily don't bother the general population, i.e., ibuprofin and aspirin, eye shadow, several foods, etc. I'm a weird one, but that makes me special. Ha. Right. I shall prevail.

There's a happy dance going on here. :):):) Ordered from Vaperite 12mg nicotine, 100%dg base, Virginia tobacco flavor. No tongue/mouth irritation after 24 hours. I am cautiously optimistic. Found it easy to cut back drastically on the analogs....4 yesterday...first day out. Did notice that when I smoked an analog the tongue irritation was there. Read where analogs contain both dg and vg. The 100% dg base vape equals no irritation other than a strong throat hit (no complaint here). Now, I have another problem: Where do I find a really top quality (all in house no artificial anything supplier) of a variety of flavors with 100% dg based e liquids. Vaperite..although excellent...is low on its selection. I see where FSUSA is highly recommended. Anyone know if they are really careful with the artificial additives?

Do you mean PG? When you started typing dg the other day, I thought it was just a typo, but now I'm wondering if you know something I don't about another kind of base.

FSUSA has the best liquids of any that I tried (tried liquids from about five liquid suppliers), but you might want to post in the FSUSA Supplier thread here to ask the owners if they're really careful with the articial additives. I doubt that any of us know exactly how careful they are. :)

By the way, all of my flavors (see my signature) are tasting much better now that I've had them all mixed together and steeped for about a month.

Great! Sounds like VG was the problem, same as how VG causes me to have sore gums (if I use too much VG, that is. I can use a little with no sore gums, unless I vape every 10 seconds).

Sorry for the confusion. When I typed "dg" I was referring to dipropylene glycol. It's from my reed diffuser days when I sold them. I should have typed "pg" propylene glycol. It is the vegetable glycerine that I found I have problems with just as you do Deb. I think I will take your suggestion and check personally with FSUSA. They appear to be very reputable. Still doing well so far. Only 1 analog so far today. This is the third time around having to go back to analogs because of something going wrong. I will get this right.

Ok, thanks, Becky. I KNEW all the "dgs" couldn't be typos. I'm sure you will get it right and glad you discovered what was causing the problem.

I still have problems sometimes when vaping way too often, when the vapor hits a certain upper tooth on the left of my mouth. That's been a sensitive area for me in the last few years (if and when I eat too much candy, usually), so I'll usually try to hold the PV so the vapor hits other areas of my mouth. But just reducing the overall VG really solved the problem for me.
