Ohh, Farm supply is a good idea...have to find one of those.

A good place to but needles online is Pet Supplies, Dog Supplies, Horse Supplies, Horse Tack, Farm Supplies - Valley Vet Supply (an online vet supply) an 18gage needle there is .20 each - but shipping is $6 (free with $60 order so if you have a pet you might want to stock up on stuff).

If you want to buy needles at a drug store, they usually require you to buy a large box of 100 or so - but they are usually $17 or so for a box full (or they were a few years ago when I was getting 18g needles). I bought them for a cat I was giving subcutaneous fluids to for kidney failure - so you can always say the reason you were buying them was for your sick cat) ;)

Here is another option (one that I bought from):
BLUNT TIP LABORATORY PIPETTING NEEDLES
Scroll down to the second group of needles, with the above heading.
You'll want a 17 gauge at smallest, in my experience. Smaller gauge number = larger bore. 15 gauge will handle even straight VG. I got the 2" needles, but the 4" would be more useful for taller bottles.

They can be used with any luer tip syringe, including the ones they sell at Wal Mart for 25¢ apiece. Those come with something like 24 gauge sharp needles which are useless for our purposes, their bore is too small. Just toss them.
Also, those el-cheapo syringes have graduation marks which easily smear off (but, they're disposable).

I use mine primarily for DIY juice mixing. Great with a 1ml syringe, can't get along without it for accurately pipetting flavoring and such.

I bought a six pack of new / unused 10ml syringes with 4.75 inch long blunt tipped needles on ebay, apparently used for refilling printer ink cartridges.
That sounds great. It's been so long since I logged in, I may have forgotten my password.
Thanks for the tip, definitely worth checking out. What gauge are the needles, and are they standard luer? (so could be used with other syringes)
