I think this story is Hilarious.

What’s next? Locals vote to ban outdoor smoking
and e-smoking within 1 mile of the hospital?

To solve the problem with the neighbors ...
I would suggest the hospital return to designated
smoking areas and permit smoking in ones own car
on their property.

Remember how it all started ...
No smoking inside government buildings.

In the end ... this little rant won't make any difference
because the Nanny State is here to stay.

Just how in the world do the 'neighborhood people' think that they can keep a person from smoking on the sidewalk, or on the street? What makes them believe that they even have the right to do so? At best, they might be able to get someone ticketed for littering if they are throwing butts on the ground. Damned busy bodies.

The hospital I work for has the same policy but largely ignores the smokers who nip outside for a quick one (on the property). Alot of our employees smoke. The home across the street from the rear of the hospital actual installed a bench and an ashstray in the front yard so that hospital employees can have a place to go on their smoke break, so nice of them!

The non-smoking public was much better off when the buildings were non-smoking, except for designated areas inside. Many of these had separate ventilation that kept any side stream smoke away from the non-smokers in the building. As soon as they started forcing the smokers outside, more non-smokers started being exposed to smoke, and more children could witness adults smoking. It just goes to show you that the goal was not protection of public health or protection of children: It was punishment of smokers.

I love it. They place smoking bans everywhere, and then complain about people smoking in parks, neighborhood streets, around the corners of buildings etc. My mother once commented about all the butts all over outside the mall. I pointed out that there aren't any ashtrays anymore. People are going to carry their butts around the mall? I hate littering, and make every effort not to, but without a proper .... receptacle... I hate to say that I've thrown a few butts. I've also stood outside smoking next to an office building that had no designated area. My boss decided to do away with the smoking area and ask that we leave the property. We did... breaks took longer because we'd smoke 2 at a time, and to keep from littering on the front lawns of neighbors, we took a coffee can. Well, about a week into that coffee can being in the closet in our building, the boss decided to reinstate the smoking area. I left there anyway, but I think the attempt to control a legal activity on break and lunch times was the straw that broke the camel's back.

What did people think was going to happen when they banned smoking on hospital property?

I voted for a smoking area- why not, it at least makes more sense that some silly campus wide ban.
The same thing is going to happen with college campuses that do this.
At least the poll was in the right direction and didn't ask as one of the choices if there should be a right-out outdoor smoking ban like they have instated in some places.
