Went to one of the local vapor stores and they have a (1) real brass Nemesis they are selling for $350. I saw on craigslist a brand new Chi-You (real) is going for $225.... which i thought was also expensive but i hear the Chi-You is the best mod out there. So what's the deal? Is this a normal price?

I offered them $200 for it and obviously they did not sell it to me. Idk basically the selling point was "it has a low serial number" and "it has a magnetic button. NO SPRING! OOOOOOOooooooo aaaaaaahhhhhh!"

Really though... I'm not gonna spend an extra 9000% for a couple magnets and 8 cents worth of silver plus a low number... who buys these things??

Limited production items sell for whatever someone is willing to pay for them. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for either.

Finer things? That I don't get. I mean if a three hundred dollar mod were in some way superior I could almost understand, but what does it do that the average run of the mill device can't? Not trying to be sarcastic as I have no experiencewith crazy priced mods so I honestly don't get it. Is it made of some precious metal or w what?

While I wouldnt mind having the brass nemi for the actual retail price of 130 euro.
I would never pay the ridiculous markup some of the vendors ask for simply having a desired product on hand. the whole low serial biz never interested me as I always feel small and minute revisions appear as more of the same mod is produced. but as others have said the collector mindset will almost always buy it no matter the price

That's actually what I offered them... retail price. I just don't see why I should have to pay nearly double the price to a bunch of idiots who apparently couldn't get there hands on more than one of these. If you're going to run a shop... run a shop. Don't buy .... off fasttech and pitch it with a %100 markup. I mean that appears to be the business model... take stuff you can buy retail from you name the place, double the price, and sell it back to either people who are too impatient to order it online or too stupid/uninformed to realize they can.

It's all relative.. In my case, I've chosen since switching from tobacco to vaping 3 years ago, to budget the same $255.00 a month I spent on cigs and cigars to vape-gear. If I see something I like, I buy it. I don't exceed the budget, and whatever is not spent goes towards other things.

I'm in this for the harm-reduction, and feeling better more than anything. If I were to quit vaping tomorrow, within a couple of days, I would be right back to the smoke shop to buy my usual $55.00 weekly carton and cigars anyway. ;) With the gear, I also have something to show for the $$ spent rather than a pile of empty packs, ashes, and butts. It's way easier to sell and trade the higher-end gear for other things on the classies if I get tired of it too..

The higher-end gear is very well crafted and machined in most cases. Most of the makers offer pretty decent support on their devices also. Not much different than my knife collecting or other hobbys really. Basically an appreciation of the craftsmanship.

That said.. I wouldn't pay more than retail for any device either... ;)

Some vapors go beyond the point of simply vaping to get off the cigarette habit. They become hobbyists, even enthusiasts and collectors of finely made and rare mechanical mods. Many of these can literally be considered fine works of art worthy of a trophy case.

MUCH more care and attention to detail go into these high end mods. The finest parts and materials that can be found. Highest quality machining. Highly skilled hand polished, laser etched, or carved. Limited production with serial numbers to authenticate they are the genuine product and not a clone. It goes way beyond what the average vapor has or is even interested in owning for themselves. People are buying these up as fast as they can be produced.

It's no different than what other collectors do. Whether it be artwork, musical instruments, cars, rare coins, whatever. They have the expendable income to do it, so why not? It's their money.

Who can gaze at a Caravella or an Otto Carter mod and not have a little bit of envy or lust? By the way, the hand-engraved, one-of-a-kind Otto Carter "Tribal Mod" in the last pic goes for $3000.

Also, if that is your business model, don't buy super-high-end stuff and double the price but refuse to buy clones. I asked if they had a Ba Gua clone and the guy was like "Oh we don't sell clones, all the stuff we sell here is the REAL DEAL".... at least at a 100% markup a clone is still an OK deal... $400 for a mech mod is insanity. Also, what kind of place doesn't sell clones? Do they think that is going to get them more customers? It's funny how people can pitch the idea that giving you fewer options is a special feature of their business.

Yeah the nemesis sells for around that price here in the US unfortunately. But tis a great PV.
I wouldn't buy a mechanical PV with a price tag of over 150 dollars. That is my limit.
$200 for any mod automatically equals too much for me to spend on a mod. Even if its got rhodium plated pins, and elephant graveyard tusk inlays, sourced from the private prop rendering collection of the animation team for disneys the lion king. I dont care. Thats more than half of what I make in a good month even when I do have a job.

I agree with that, the few places I buy stuff with a markup its not stupid crazy and they usually have something out of stock everywhere else I look so its fair they get to make some money on the deal so I can get it now. buy yea the gouging is going to continue with the way vaping is exploding until more people get better informed.

Good point. I guess I was just considering the every day carry angle. I've never been much of a collector of anything, but can definitely appreciate why people do it.
