Nemesis? Not really feeling it. Suggestions?

Ok, first off, this is a clone (yeah, I know I know).. but it's from hcigar so as far as quality goes, it's pretty decent.

Thing is, I'm just not feeling it. The lock ring is light and flimsy feeling, just the way it screws up and down.. it's such a thin piece of metal. Then there's the button. It feels fat and hollow (probably because it is? duhh..lol).

I'm just wondering what I can do to improve the feel and function of this. I know I should definitely upgrade to the magnets, so I'll order some of those (btw, what size do I need)?

As far as improving the button throw, I've seen it mentioned that it needs a bit of modification to work better. What needs to be done with that? It appears to be a little more complicated than the simple Caravela button, so I want to make sure I mod the correct part(s).

Cut magnet size shims from coke can to fine tune switch resistance.
Polish switch post.
Delete lock pin.
Install internal lock washer from Ace under switch firing pin to reduce throw to 1 mm.
Grind firing pins to reduce lock ring gap.

For some reason they dont ship to my location in Texas. But I ordered my magnets from supermagnetman for my nemmy on friday and shipped today. Got 10 for $11 shipped and the ones i got for my chi-you are wonderful.

Yep, that's who I just ordered from. I wanted to order some for my Caravela as well, but they were sold out. How many do you need to use in the Nemesis?

I'll work on polishing the button center pin and inner brass hole this evening, since there are the typical horizontal machining marks left over that is making it a bit crunchy. I think between that and the magnets, the button should feel better. I guess I'll know later this week when the magnets arrive.

I took off the beauty ring and used a flat top 18350 in it and it's just a smidge taller than the Caravela now. Good size, I like it. It's growing on me.

The springs on my chi-you were fine compared to my nemmy hcigar clone. But the magnets def makes my chi-you feel more solid. The flimsy cheap feel of the switch is the only reason why my nemmy hasnt made its way out into public with me. Kinda embarassing. The one thing I also hated other then the flimsy feel of the nemmy spring switch was how super soft the throw was. Not only can i not stand it up without locking, but if any kind of pressure like it being next to me and i somehow knock something into the nemmy, it would fire. Like my chi-you I plan on using 4 magnets on my nemmy.

The magnets for the nemmy are N50 compared to the chi-you N35 so they are stronger so using only 2 could work.

Lock Ring is supposed to feel flemsy. It is, it is not a heavy hardware part, but a dual function Lock/Trim piece.
Switch only feels light because it is not compounded with a bulky Locking mechanism. 1/3rd less mass.

My magnets from deal extreme just came in, It ships to US and are very strong. i used 3 on my nemesis and drop tested a few from 4 foot high, none broke. Fat daddy magnet i heard are rip off. He buys the fasttech kind and sells 2 for 8-9 bucks and will break easily.

I have DealExtreme, Fasttech and FatDaddy
His are the ONLY ones that Match the Originals. His latest Batch was custom ordered to INCREASE the Strength to N50(or so) Stronger than the originals. Yes the price is a bit high, but you either Special order 200-500 or you pay the price.

* Everyones 1mm Neodymium Magnets will break easily - it is the nature of an extremely brittle metal.

Fat daddy did the leg work. If he'll give me a break on about a dozen caravela and origin batts I'd buy. Not easy to find every size ring magnet.

Same as the rest 1mm
It is the Diameter and opening that add/subtract from overall material.

yeah i actually found the button on the fasttech $25.xx version of the nemmy to be better than the one on my hcigar. it doesn't get quite as wobbly and flimsy feeling when raising the negative contact screw. however, i found that the ft version you could see seams between the parts of the tube whereas it's almost invisible on the hcigar. and of course, the laser etchings are better on the hcigar (but i think that's the case with the *18.xx nemmy from ft)

I cancelled my order from FT when they kept pushing the date ahead over and over again. Got tired of waiting, so I ordered this one off eBay for a good fair ($40 w/CA tax).

Well I was just holding it again and I have to say I'm liking it a lot more now. Dunno why I wasn't happy with it before (aside from the button), but it's actually a very nice device. I wouldn't buy the original, but happy with the one I have for the money I spent.

Don't know why people keep saying the FT Nemesis has a lighter logo than the Hcigar.
I own Both and they are Both nice and Dark. Almost Identical.

I think people don't realize machines don't get recalibrate ever few mods. More like every few hundred in Production. This can cause a lot of variance within one SKU from one manufacturer.

I think the biggest giveaway that its a clone is the font. Atleast when i compared my real chi-you to a friends hcigar chi-you. It was almost identical except the font of the serial number. Real ones are in a block kind of font and the clone is more of a rounded font.

I figured the biggest giveaway was switch and thread tolerances. I hope the original has tighter clearances.

Funny enough, if you want to see difference between original and clone you might want to look at this thread:

And IMHO, HCigar makes some pretty high quality stuff. I guess there are different versions (with different prices) at fasttech, so one version may be higher quality than others. But the HCigar version I looked at was scary close to the original.
