What do you mean by Shorted?
Auto fired when screwed in?

The only thing that will cause that is forcing the negative contact Pin higher than the Delrin.<Unless your Battery has a tear in the wrapping touching the mod itself.>

Oh, and that rice pin people keep taking out to reduce bind.............It also helps to transfer current from the center(contact pin) to the Brass threaded section and Body of the mod. I.E. part of the current path.

I assumed it was shorting but maybe I used the wrong word the button heats up, and occasion there seems to be a voltage drop (have not measured) as vapor production is reduced

In my experience, what it sounds like to me, is that there is too much resistance at one of the contact points in your switch, causing it to ark to complete the circuit, which is more intensified running that .4ohm coil. I've never polished my switch, but that would definetly help. What I do, is clean everything really well with a toothbrush and 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol and apply noalax on the inside and outside of the brass ring, on the hole for the negative pin, and on the body threads. Very little though, preaty much dab it on and wipe it off. Helps makes the switch smooth, prolong the time between maintenance and helps with conductivity.

Thanks. Someone told me that it could be bad magnets... Could the magnets be creating some kind of resistance?

Under normal operation the magnets don't make contact with each other. If you have double magnets then that's a different story. At least on mine, the magnets don't even touch.

I just had this exact same problem, really glad I found this thread so i'm bumping it. After having already left it to soak in iso for 2 days and cleaning out the switch pieces with a q tip.....It wasn't enough i still was having problems. Going back into the switch and really digging at the back of the button and inside the base where the silver pin screws in by wrapping a terry cloth round a qtip soaked in iso and then really getting at the threads. Nemmy fires like new again. I'm amazed how dirty and how heavily i had to work the threads to finally bring it back to life.
