Given that the greatest month of the year is almost upon us, I thought I would post to see if anyone else had Netflix streaming memberships, and had recommendations for good zombie flicks available for streaming (or by DVD mailer, for that matter). We just recently watched Fido:

Lots more fun than I expected! It was also nice to see a sympathetic zombie for once. Also, just laughed our way through the MST3K version of Zombie Nightmare:

I've never had streaming TV before, and am still a little in awe of having an immense selection of zombie/horror movies delivered directly to my television...

Solid favorites of mine are City of the Dead and The Beyond. Others good for a few chuckles that are off the radar would be Undead (2003) australian 'zombie' flick and The Dead Hate the Living. It helps if you're a Fulci fan to get some of the inside jokes built into the dead hate the living but it's a fun romp either way. When all else fails, japan has a strange way of looking at zombies so I'd look at foreign horror as well. The movie Stacy comes to mind... it's shot in digital vs film but it's hilarious.

I've got City of the Dead in the queue right now. I've seen Undead (Thought it had a wonderful first half and kind of lost the plot in the second) and Dead Hate the Living (Enjoyed!). And speaking of Japan, I've also got Tokyo Gore Police in the queue, which looks a bit.......*disturbing*! :O

I wish there was a good Halloween holiday zombie film, something as entertaining as Spain's "Christmas Tale", a fun flick about a single seasonal xmas zombie chasing kids in 1980's Spain. But, I guess Halloween has plenty of other seasonal horror flicks already.

It's not really a zombie flick but Trick r' Treat is a pretty good one. Tokyo Gore Police was different to be sure, kind of like the japanese film Iron Man. The japanese have a weird pre-occupation with weapons being integrated into their bodies... Still a good laugh though. If you like the gore, check out Suicide Club (or alternate title Suicide Circle). It's worth it for the opening 5 minutes if nothing else but the middle/end is pretty surreal.

Oh, and check out Dead Snow if you can (I haven't seen it yet but I've heard good things) and I Sell the Dead is worth watching too.

I absolutely LOVED "I sell the dead" and "Trick R Treat". TrT is now my *other* favorite Halloween movie, alongside the original "Halloween". We watched that for the first time last Halloween night, after getting in from the usual play, and were just blown away by how much fun it was (In its favor, we had lived the last 7 years overseas where Halloween was not celebrated, so getting to see TrT on our first Halloween back was an extra special treat). And yes, "I sell the dead" was excellent, too. I described it in another (monster movie-dedicated) forum as being the best Vincent Prince horror-comedy that Vincent Price was not in. It really gave me very happy flashbacks to the old VP Corman horror/coms like the one where VO and Peter Lorre are graverobbers. Also, it has a GREAT soundtrack if you like mischievous horror/fun music.

I've seen "Dead Snow" - Solid flick with some great horror moments and some very funny comedy. It's a good B grade movie, not outstanding, but totally worth seeing. Also seen Zombieland, lots of fun there.

Just last night we watched "La Horde", a French zombie film from last year that was also pretty cool. It's best described as "Assault on Precinct 13" meets [REC] (BTW, I do think [REC] may possibly be my personal all-time favorite zombie film ever). Horde was pretty dark and intense, no humor there. It's the story of a group of police who decide to wipe out a local criminal gang, vigilante-style, but are forced to team up with them instead when a zombie apocalypse hits and both groups are trapped in an unfinished, condemned city tower block. It suffers from not many likable characters, but the zombie outbreak is handled well, almost Cloverfield in style, in that it's the classic, "No one knows what's happening, suddenly the city is going up in flames, why are they bombing parts of the city, where did these screaming hordes of undead come from?" VERY bleak, but worth seeing if you're in the mood for some serious zombie carnage.

About streaming, we have a 7 meg cable connection and it works well. Every once in a while there may be a stutter, but primarily it is just ideal on-demand TV.

My brother called me last night and said he was getting Shock Waves through Netflix. He's been looking for it for years and all he remembers is seeing the trailer for it back in the 70's. Something about Nazi Zombies on an abandoned island. IMDB sheds a little more light (like it was shot in 35 days total!) and that it's not an over the top gore-fest. But some of the reviews say it's worth it.

Netflix blows...should you ever want to cancel membership, be sure to call in and do so and not through your accounts page. i was sure to have canceled my account (online) but was still charged for many months til i caught it...i'll probably try Blockbuster net time around.

The easiest way I found was to suspend your account and then cancel it after returning the last movies and removing everything from your queue. I later re-opened it and had no problems whatsoever. Of course, your results may vary.

I can't imagine not enjoying it, so far at least. The streaming library is too convenient for words. My wife gets to bury herself in Buffy the Vampire Slayer all over again, whenever she wants to. We initially had some stuttering issues with the streaming (We're watching it by wifi), but a new & improved router seems to have thoroughly sorted that out. My friends and I are all doing Halloween movie countdowns this month, with different horror flicks every night, most of mine from Netflix.

I think Jaume Balaguero is the best director doing horror right now. His movies are mostly in English, but his latest, Rec2, is in Spanish so you'd need a fansub. Rec2 is one of those movies that reaffirmed my love of horror. It picks up right after Rec (Quarantine was the US remake), and it starts moving immediately. Where he takes what could have been a mundane zombie movie is awesome. Very in love with this movie, highly recommended.

Another movie that reaffirmed my faith in horror is a little Canadian indy no budget movie called Pontypool. It is only marginally a zombie flick, and it resembles Stephen King's Cell more than anything. However, the story is great, the script is perfect and the acting sends it over the top. Highly recommended.
