Trying to eventually quit smoking. Was on the patch for 3 weeks and still anxious so decided to purchase e-cigarette kit from blu cigarettes and eventually cut back on nicotine and go to a no-dose cartridge (eventually). Did not realize until visiting this forum that this whole vaping process can be quite complicated and technical.

Although vaping is not exactly like smoking, I am doing ok with cravings and have not smoked since starting this two weeks ago. I am concerned though that I am not doing this right. I want this to be successful because even if I have to stay on e-cigs for a while, it's not as harmful as real smoking and I am most addicted to the feeling of a cigarette in my hand.
Here are my questions:
1. Do I really need to buy "juice" or is this just a way to get more vapor and nicotine?
Right now, I get a couple of good puffs (for 2 to 4 sessions) when I first replace the cartridge then I have to let it rest in between puffs as the day goes on or else I go through too many cartridges. I really don't want to use more than two cartridges a day. I bought the kit with the high level (16 mg) but will be switching to med (12 mg) this week. The high level made me feel nauseous at first.

2. Do I really have to clean the atomizer? The manufacturer states that it's a self cleaning atomizer and you simply have to brush away the aluminum residue from the cartridge. The kit came with two atomizers and one has already stopped working.

I really want the least complicated way of using this method so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to vaping and to ECF, jp195!

What makes vaping so complicated are the choices. These are still very early days for this industry and subculture. I’m reminded of personal computers when they still were for hobbyists in the mid-70’s. Electronic cigarettes haven’t shaken out yet to simply Mac vs. PC. [And those of us who are vaping hobbyists are in no rush to make it so. ;)]

And, for the same reason, discussions about vaping sound very technical. Alphanumeric model numbers, voltages, and mAh (milliamp hours) pepper all of our conversations. As someone with no technical background, however, take my word for it, you don’t need a degree in Electrical Engineering to vape.:)

My answer and advice will contain minimal technical jargon … and it is going to veer away from the blu, because:
  1. I’ve never used it.
  2. Based on what I know of it, I think there are far more satisfying e-cig models.
Many of us believe that the two best e-cigs to begin with are the Joye510 or the Kr8 (short for KR808D-1). In your case (based on comments you make in your question), I recommend the Kr8. It is the simplest. Unlike your blu (and most e-cigs) it is a two-component model: battery + disposable cartomizer (i.e., integrated atomizer and cartridge).

Filling with e-liquid or cleaning atomizers is not required ... although it is possible and, over time, you probably will choose to refill the cartomizers with juice. [I am naughty and never bother to clean them.] You simply charge your battery, screw on a pre-filled cartomizer (in any of scores of flavors and several nicotine levels) and vape.

They are sold by myriad suppliers and under several brand names, including: NHaler (KR808D-1), Vapor4Life (Vapor King), PureSmoker (Ace), CigEasy (Easy), GoodProphets (VapoRite), LeCig (D1), and VaporKings (KR808D-1). Those are just the ones I've dealt with.

All of them – and a great many more suppliers – sell e-liquid, whenever you are ready to get into that. [And, BTW, it’s no big deal. If butterfingers DaBoomVape can do it, anyone can.:D]

Enjoy your exploration of this most enjoyable alternative to cancer sticks – vaping!
