Hi everyone. I have not made an e-cig purchase yet as my head is spinning on what to buy. I've read MANY of the posts on this site and while the info is awesome, it's very overwhelming and I'm so confused. I want to quit smoking and thought this was the way to do it for good. I really want an automatic...but is having a manual better because it's different from smoking? Should I get pre-filled or juice (sorry, that verbiage is so foreign to me)? A friend recently got a Volcano and I tried it the other day. Made me cough but I'm sure I did it wrong. Volcano is the only one I've tried so...does it suck? Is it decent? I read one review on here and it seemed OK but looking for additional information.

All of you seem so incredibly well versed in this vaping culture and I am hopeful someone can point me in the right direction.

Many thanks upfront. :)

I started on the oh so popular blu ecigs, then when i found this forum, I was reading along like yourself. I didn't want to go to deep in when just starting out, so I bought a volcano Inferno, and no it doesn't suck, the people were helpfull and friendly on there site, and I got free two day delivery. My fiancee is still on the blu's till we buy another pv, and when she puffs on mine, she coughs too. Sometimes I still do too, there is some definite getting use to on these, from the way you inhale it slowly, to knowing if you can actually take it into your lungs at all. Just practice till you find what works for you.

Hi Marcy and welcome to ECF. There are better set ups than Volcano but Volcano as well as Blu do work in helping people quit, people just get tired of charging them every 30 minutes and going through cartomizers much quicker then the company says you should - 2 or 3 a day. Coming here and asking for opinions will greatly increase the likelihood that what you get will work to help you quit and you won't get disappointed and give up. Using the information given to you by Vapers who have been vaping for 6 months, a year, 2 years and so on can also save you money. Where many of us have started with something like the Volcano Kit or Mall E-Cig then moved to an Ego style manual battery then to a variable volt and then to a mod, you can skip some steps and save yourself some money and frustration. Also, remember that everyone here has been where you are now. Please don't feel embarrassed to ask questions. I'll get some links for you if no one else has..... Be right back

I started with the Smokeless Image Volt. I don't regret it. Starter kits range anywhere from $20-$100 but they have a 20% off when you enter the code "Merryvolt".

The kit i started off with contained:
2 batteries
a 5 pack of carto's
usb charger
PCC (Personal charging case)

it was like $50 after coupon code. Ordered on a Thurs, arrived on monday. Shipping everytime has been super fast. Customer service has been great so far. (had an issue with me PCC, and they are shipping me a new one at no extra charge).

Also check out the smokeless image forums here, you also have an oppurtunity to get a free item.

Also SI has a loyality program where you get points for purchases.

If you dont want the cig style battery, then i can't help you. I am new too..

If you tried the Volcano Inferno it is referred to as an ego clone style battery. I started with one and they are a fine place to start with if you prefer a small form factor. If you want a automatic take a look at the new Joye eroll. There is a long thread in the general forum and those that have one would gladly answer any questions you might have.

MrsCasey is spot on! I started with the Blu and quickly lost interest in the autos. then i got a manual eGo when they came out and i liked it a lot better. now i'm stalking the mail man waiting on my variable volt/variable watt mod to come in! i think many people start on automatic batteries because they give the more realistic cigarette feel but i think most grow tired of charging them so often like MrsCasey said OR it reminds them too much of a real cigarette and actually impedes their ability to drop them for good. it all boils down to personal preference and research. ECF is a great place to ask for non biased and non judgmental opinions and advice!

I recommend an Ego starter kit (it should come with 2 batteries, a usb charger, and hopefully a wall adapter so you don't have to charge them only with a computer), and a mini vivi nova tank. The tanks usually come with 3 heads. When the head starts to go bad, you can just screw on a new one. They are easy to fill and easy for beginners. If you google Ego e cig you will come up with tons of vendors that sell them. They are very popular. You can also watch Youtubes of the Ego and mini vivi novas so you have a better idea :)

To start I would get a starter kit from any of the approved vendors on here. Make sure you get a kit with two ego style batts( 900mah or greater i usually reccomend), so when one is charging the other you are vaping with. Other than that make sure you are getting good quality ejuice I like USA made, chinnese ejuice is something I personally reccomend staying away from. Good luck with switching over, also ask questions on here until you are blue in the face people on here are so nice and so excited to help people quit smoking, we all just want to share the experience of quiting which is an amzing feeling.

There is a helpful link for beginner vapors here and at the very top of every ECF page: ECF InfoZone - The is the E-cigarette Forum Information Zone, for all your ecig needs

Vaping on an e-cigarette is somewhat different from smoking cigarettes, but close enough to get you off of the stinkies. Coughing and even some sore throat for the first few days is common, as your body adjusts to the vapor, just as your body had to adjust to cigarette smoke before. Vaping does cause some dehydration, so it is wise to always vape while drinking some water or other nourishing fluid.

The nicotine in vapor is carried by different size molecules than in cigarette smoke. It is not necessary to inhale into the lungs to absorb the nicotine in vapor, as it is mostly absorbed in the mouth and throat.

I'm not sure how you inhale your cigarette, but when inhaling from an e-cig, suck into the mouth as you would on a milkshake and straw (not directly into the lungs). You may then inhale into the lungs, or exhale through the mouth and nose to absorb the nic.

Exhaling some of the vapor through your nose will help you "taste" the flavor of your e-cig's juice. Our taste buds are damaged from years of smoking and can get an assist from our sense of smell. Recall how food tastes bland or tasteless when we have a head cold? That's because the stopped up nose can't help our tongue "taste". Get it?

I will make a final recommendation to choose Smokeless Image as your first e-cigs. They are a trusted company that has quality products, good customer service, and fast delivery. Just remember to have extra "charged" batteries on hand and extra juice on board. Those are two things you never want to be without, because without one of them, you can't vape and leave yourself open to buy more cigarettes.

The larger the battery, the better the performance. I realize you'll probably want something cigarette-size, but you likely will soon tire of changing out batteries every 3-4 hours. The Volt X2 batteries have a use time of 6.5 hr to 13 hr depending upon the size (these are ego size batteries with the Smokeless Image 808 thread).

This is a picture dictionary of the most common juice carrying devices that go on top of a battery:

I have only been vaping for 24 days and I agree there is so much information it can be confusing.
I started with a KGO e-cig. It is about the size of a sharpie. My starter kit came with an automizer which you drip the juice into. I LOVE my KGO. It is easy to use and the batteries last about 10 hours. I like dripping because its easy but just got my first tank for my KGO, it is ok. I think the flavor is stronger when I drip the juice though.

I have been vaping for 24 days and have only smoked 2 analog cigs. Pretty good for a 28 year smoker. Best of luck to you.

P.S. Hoosier is an approved vendor on this site that sells the KGO. I did not buy my starter kit from them but I have gotten a battery.

So if you absolutely have to start with a cigarette style ecig (I understand why you do because I've been there but I would encourage you to skip this stage). I would go with.....
Halo Electronic Cigarette Halo Ecigs - G6 Model Kit they are having 25% off sale code is on site
I would suggest trying their Tribeca Cartomizers (Cartos) and buying some Blanks if you will want to try e-liquid and filling Cartos yourself

You can find videos on filling Cartomizers on YouTube - I would suggest searching and then picking videos by Phil Busardo or Steel Jan

The other kit I would suggest is Smokeless Image Volt - Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Smokeless Image Electronic Cigarettes - The Future is in your hands
Their Batteries and their Cartos should be interchangeable with Halo G6 Kit - I would suggest their smooth sampler for Cartos as it gives you 5 different tobaccos to try. You will most likely find that soon you will no longer want tobacco flavors and will instead crave fruit and sweet flavors.

The other suggestion I have - and it would save you money and give you much greater satisfaction (your friend with the Volcano Kit will soon be asking where she can get this kit) is purchasing 2 Ego Twists and a couple Kangers T3 Cleromizers. I'm sure someone will be on here to suggest where you can get them but if not you can go to My Vapor Store. Also, you can look up videos on filling the Clearomizers on YouTube - check PBusardo - Phil Busardo.

I agree with NeMom that HoosierEcigSupply is very reputable. I also had the KGO and it has been tested to have a stronger vape than the Ego's. It is very much like an Ego battery. I actually gave my 2 Kgo batts from Hoosier to my brother for Christmas so I might have to get a couple more soon. They are nice to have for when I'm out in public and don't want to be seen vaping on my big Provari with big Vivi Nova tank. lol.

I would recommend the ego twist in 900 mah size as well. The ego twist has a dial at the bottom that when turned will raise or lower the voltage creating more or less vaper, throat hit and warmth of vaper. You could get a vivi nova tank as recommended above but I would recommend you starting out with cartomizers or a cartomizer tank system. The vivi nova never worked well for me but others seem to love it. Try going on you tube and search all 3 of these options and see what you think.

I started with a cigalike v2. I was disappointed with the short battery charge. The pre-filled carto's were very expensive too. Don't get fooled into the hype a pre-filled carto is equal to a pack of cigarettes. I listened to some of our members, and got a eGo Twist and a Vision Mini Vivi Nova. I went on to get a Splitfire, a DCT tank, and finally a IBTanked. I use all of the tanks because I have different juices in them and like to switch flavors. I really like the Splitfire, but I don't like having to change heads in it. I mostly use my cartomizer tanks with single coil cartomizer's. The Splitfire does carry a great flavor, though!

MY suggestion is to get two 1,000 mAh eGo Twists, or two 1,300 mAh Spinners, and what ever style of tank that suits you best. Since the tanks aren't that expensive, you may try different one's and judge what you like best.

Mt. Baker, ECBlend, RAWR, and Backwoods Brew all have great juices to try.

I actually ordered this for my son. It's an Ego V passthrough. You can charge it and also vape it while it's charging. It's cheap and you can add on that you want a wall adapter and car charger to it for something like $8.95, and I also added on a vivi nova tank on the drop down list also. They sold out of them right after I ordered it for Christmas for my son, but I see now they are in stock again.
