Good morning,
I started vaping recently ( May 31) with no intention of giving up smoking, just to see if I would like vaping occasionally. The fact is that I have not smoked and have not even had the slightest desire to smoke at all.
I am 57, had been smoking a pack a day for the last 40 years, had tried to quit several times: cold turkey, nicotine gums, nicotine patches, you name it. My record was 30 days without smoking. Every time I tried it was difficult from day one, getting unbearable until I finally started smoking again. Five years ago, I decided that I would not try to quit again as I saw no reason to go through the aggravation of withdrawal only to start again.
For the first time and without even trying I am tobacco free.

I got the EVOD BCC starter kit and I am using a fruit flavored e-liquid rated at 12mg for nicotine.

I read a lot on vaping (scientific studies on health effects, the technology and the mods and all the options). Is the e-cig totally safe? I do not know and we will probably not know for 20 years ( long term effects by definition take a long time to study). However, I do not really care as all the existing studies on short term effects show that e-cigs are definitely safer than cigarettes, and by orders of magnitude.

I joined the forum to learn from those much more knowleadgable and experimented with vaping. I also joined because it seems that our governments do not know how to treat vaping yet and I want to be part of the community. The bigger and stronger the community, the better our chances of preserving our right to vape

I agree with not knowing how safe vaping is for 20 years of so, but I figure by that time I will be gone anyway!! I do know that I feel I whole lot better since I began vaping and quit smoking!

If you have a desire to learn about vaping you found the right spot!! Lots of great folks with lots of knowledge and experience here.

Again, welcome and enjoy!

Welcome to ECF Mig01! Your story sounds a lot like mine. I was at a point where I didn't want to quit but I wanted to want to quit. E cigs were a last ditch effort that held no real promise to me after failing with every other method out there.

I smoked and vaped for less than a week and woke up one morning, went to light up and thought what am I doing, this is disgusting!

September will be 4 years since my last cigarette. I feel better, sleep better, my wife will tell you I smell better and yes I actually have saved a ton of money even after all the mods/equipment/juice.

Congrats of finding ECF quicker than I did, there is so much great information and support here, use it as the valuable resource that it is and most of all enjoy the journey!

Hi, Mig, and welcome aboard!

I think a lot of us followed a similar route. My cig and pipe habit was 45+ years, and I'd tried all but the drug without success as well. And here I am, over 1 1/2 years off cigs :)

As you say, we don't know to a certainty that vaping is "safe" - but every bit of real research definitely indicates that it's a lot less harmful than inhaling burning plant matter, carbon, and who knows what the 4000 - 5000 additives and combustion by-products are!

The Evod's a fine starter system. Just be aware that there are some flavors that will react with any of the poly tubes, commonly known as tank crackers. For those flavors, you need to move into a pyrex or stainless topper. (Protank, Davide, Aro are some in pyrex, btw.)

And do invest in backups. You've made it this far, so you don't want to be left high and dry due to equipment malfunction - or even just waiting for a battery to charge!

Great suggestion, always have back ups and back up for the back ups :)

Thanks to all for your encouraging messages.
I do have back-up, as the kit came with two complete e-cigs (cartomizer with coil + batteries). I always keep one fully charged with a full tank to carry with me along with the one I am using, to be sure never to run out.
From what I have read here and elsewhere, there are already plenty of possibilities with all the mods available, the juices and so on, and the technology is evolving quickly.
For the time being, what I have is satisfying but if I decide to experiment futher, just the money I am saving from using e-cigs instead of smoking is plenty to fund any experimentation.
Thanks again for your warm welcome

While we're more than happy to help you spend your money on the latest, greatest and shiniest...

Seems like you're at it in the right way. Getting comfortable with the gear you have, learning it's ins and outs, exploring different flavors. Indeed, lots of possibilities, but really all variations on a theme. (Although anything VV or VW will add considerable flexibility to customize the vape.)

Welcome aboard! :D

I quit a 26-year over a pack a day habit quite successfully using the same evod kit, although later I did expand my gear inventory a bit exactly as you describe, with money saved from not buying cigs. Those evod batteries and tanks are still my choice for running around town, they still work flawlessly and get used just about daily. It's a fine choice.

Stick with it, you'll never regret it!
