This is coming from a total newcomer, please do chip in if you feel I'm wrong.

I know it seems counter intuitive but being a 901 user for a whole 36 hours :oops:what works for me is dripping using a cart without filling so I can get a sense of how the juice is supposed to taste and how it begins to taste as the atty begins to run dry.

I was frustrated because sometimes everything would taste way too sweet (no idea why) or like burned newspapers (dry atty)

That's my two cents, hope it helps or at least provides fuel for further discussion.

Just fired up a new atty it is smokeing like crazy and has a nasty smell. What gives??/ Also it is crackling

Sounds like it had a lot of primer in it.

I blow out new attys, stand them up on the counter and fill them with diluted VG. Let them sit for about an hour, then empty them (if the VG hasn't already leaked out), blow them out and wipe them off. I also clean the threads well. Oh, and also clean the countertop...

I put one on a battery, put on a filled cart and vape away. Takes a few puffs for the flavor in the cart to come through but this method works well for me. No more bad primer taste and it starts working quickly.
