I've always rocked Samsung 25NR's ever since they first came out, but I saw a local vape shop sell AWT batteries with a 40A continuous rating at 3000mAh.. is that legit? and if so, could this be the next top seller? Does anyone have any experience with the performance on this one?

    Welcome to ECF!

    3000mAh? The picture show a 2600mAh. :)
That battery might reach 2600mAh but it can't be a 40A battery as there are none made with a rating over 30A:

There are no 18650 batteries with a genuine rating over 30A! | E-Cigarette Forum

That "40A/2600mAh" battery was tested and found to be a decent 20A battery, no more. That would have been my guess too after testing a few rewrapped batteries.

And if someone claims a 40A "pulse" rating for that battery...

Battery pulse ratings are useless! | E-Cigarette Forum

In my opinion, you should stay with those great 25R's :)

40A and 3000mah capacity? I'm gonna wave the BS flag on this one. That would mean they would have a battery that can run at 33% higher discharge than the LG HB6 and also pack twice the capacity. I just find that pretty hard to believe.

Even worse, if the shop is selling the ones you posted a picture of as 3000mah batteries, that is pretty scummy when they blatantly say 2600mah right there on the side.

I would really like to see Mooch test them to see if they check out.

Mooch, here is the one I think he meant: AWT 18650 3000mAh 40A Flat Top Battery - IMRbatteries.com

It would be really nice to see what these things actually turned out to be. If they genuinely are able to have a safe CDR of 40 amps and give a 3000mah capacity, that would pretty much be the holy grail of 18650 batteries right now.

Thanks speedy! I was being lazy and pasted the first pic of an AWT I could find on google images haha. But these red ones are the ones sold by the store (no "false" advertising on the retail end as far as I can see). And isn't it illegal on the manufacturing end to intentionally boast an overly exaggerated safety rating? I love sub-ohming and run builds at an average 0.10-0.15 myself.. I was looking for a safer battery than my samsungs, but I guess I hit a dead wall with this one?

OK, I've seen that one listed before. My guess is that it's probably a high-capacity cell with a hugely exaggerated amp rating. Probably a 20A cell. I have that 40A/2600mAh cell in the queue but not the 40A/3000mAh one. Don't think anyone is donating one of those for testing.
Been running both kinds of this battery for a couple of months now and my face is still there:)shock:)! Low OHM (.25) & nickel on my IPV 4s with only very little temp change at end of charge only. Both seem to last longer than the set of samsungs I have.:vapor:

Great to see these AWTs in action, thanks haleysdadda. I was actually thinking of throwing some dual nickel builds in my tfv4 RBA section using my ipv3 Li, but I'm not sure how well my current Samsung will handle them at such low ohmage lol. Good to hear some feedback from a fellow IPV fam!

nickel build? who cares? you wont touch the amp limit with that anyway thanks to regulation. .25? still not that relatively low. drain it to 3.6 and your still only pulling 14.5 amps on a 20 a cell. thats why you still have your face. :)

Nope, it isn't. They get away with it by claiming the spec is for a pulse or burst rating, which means the spec could mean anything from a millisecond to several seconds. Pulse ratings are not an industry standard, but the CDR (continuous discharge rate) is an industry standard.

You can safely compare battery brands and models using the CDR. Not so simple with a pulse rating because every manufacturer has a different definition of what a pulse rating is.

If your setup is set up with a pulse rating specification, it is instantly over-spec. These batteries that we use in mods were never designed for single cell use. A large percentage of the Samsung, Sony, LG cells are used in multi-cell configurations, i.e., battery packs in hybrid automobiles and cordless power tools. These battery packs have their own battery management system (BMS) that ensures configurable, consistent protection at desired current, voltage, and temperature settings to ensure long battery pack life. As vapers, we are primarily using single battery cells alone by themselves, which often means we may be using these single cells at or above their recommended specifications for a single cell. This application is not the intended use for these cells, so err on the side of caution with some safe headroom.

Well first of all @Wraith504 , Luv U 2. As you can probably tell from my counter I'm fairly new to vaping & didn't grow up with unregulated flashlights like you probably did. LOL! I run a device with regulation because my wife likes my face for some reason and I also like to be safe as possible. I feel the need for protection because even the best of us make simple mistakes. And @SpartanM also runs a regulated device. Hope you keep your face!

ALL GOOD! Not to mention i just noticed your running them in an ipv4 so u have dual batteries and a much lower amp draw. the 14.5 was calculated for single mech use. 20 amp cells as @Mooch said. But perfectly fine to use with that build in a regulated mod im sure.

Is that a single coil or dual coil at .16 in your pic. Cuz I did a .14 dual on my Mutation X V4 & it was awesome!

Damn. I've lost so much trust in my batteries within the course of this thread >< Guess I'll just have to assume all ratings are overstated these days... and lock up my smpl mod for good [emoji24]

One should always remember that there have been no major technology improvements on battery technology recently. Anyone claiming to have anything above 30A batteries is using smoke and mirrors to claim theirs are better and should be taken with a rather HUGE grain of salt.

Hey @Mooch if you still haven't done this one and want to toss me a paypal name and tell me your cost for the battery and for the shipping I will GLADLY donate the cash. (easier for me than sending batteries as I am a lazy so and so :) ) That and I would love to see that one torn apart in a test lab. If interested send me a convo.

You can do a quick check of my Safety Grades table (link in my signature) to see who the worst offenders are.

Thanks Drummel! I already have the 3000mAh ones here and in the testing queue but I really appreciate your offer. :)
