If you speak with the owner (which I, for one, think is a good idea), try not to be threatening... but he might be more willing to listen if you suggest what would happen to his business if a local news outfit showed up to do a story on the dangers of vaping.

That's what I was going to say. Present it in a manner that makes it beneficial to him not to allow that in his store. Tell him he may not be in business for long if he keeps selling to minors. Regardless of family or 0 nic.

Thanks for all the replies.

I went back this week, spoke with the owner about letting kids inside vaping. When I went in, sure enough, the same crowd of kids were in there (when I say crowd, there were 4 of them this time)

I spoke with him quietly and mentioned that he might want to reconsider his stance on allowing under 18's in the store vaping and I started to explain why I felt that way. He wasn't rude but he made it clear that my opinion was not welcome and as a business owner he could choose how he went about his business.

So I left. No drama, no bad feelings, I talked to him about it, he told me that my opinion wasn't important to him. Of course I won't be going back.

Hey, you did what you could. Good for you! He may be one of those who hopes to make some quick money and get out and doesn't care where the money comes from!

It's strange to me, I really don't get that impression from this guy. He seems to really want to help vapers and he has some good set ups in his store with very reasonable prices (for a B&M) on both equipment and juice.

But if he can't see how letting under 18's vape inside his store can affect our rights as vapers, both at a local and national level, and he didn't even want to discuss it with me, it was just strange... like he disengaged from our conversation immediately that I started addressing the issue.

Maybe I'll go back in a few weeks after all, at least to show my face around and maybe try one last time...

Was under the same impression based on the response given to the OP by the store owner. I applaud you OP for standing up and speaking to the guy, My stance is that Kids should not be allowed to vape and I'm not getting into a battle about why. I been down that road in a similar post. Some things should be reserved for adults like Drinking, Firearm ownership, House purchasing, Vaping the things we adults do. I realize kids will find a way, I was a kid once and in bars drinking at 15 years old I was able to by Whiskey at 16, I've always looked older and had an ID as back up. I started smoking at 13, hooking up with females at 13, driving Hot vehicles at 13 so I know Kids can and will find a way. It still doesn't make it rite and in my day an adult caught me doing something that adults do, I was taken home for my father the beat the living S^%$ out of me. Did I get the message, Mostly not, depended on the beating really my father was a closed fist type parent, open hand a%$ whoopins came from MOM. Rite now the underage vaping is Fuel and can be of no good for any cause to keep it from being regulated and or banned. IMO if you love vaping, and its helped you out, and you want to see it remain something were permitted to do, possible even where smoking is not allowed then its your responsibility to speak up when you see issues that can hurt it. Don't bash me this is JMO. Problems arise when folks don't get involved don't wish you had later on when its all gone the time is now. And don't wait for others to do it for the good of everyone, because everyone throwing a fit is harder to ignore then just a few.

It is not illegal in Florida for minors to purchase e-cig stuff, yet! I was in the B&M around the corner from my house the other day and a kid came in to buy a kit. The owner checked his ID!! I was impressed.

In all the shops I have been to in my area it says in bold letters on the door that they do not serve anyone under the age of 18, and they ask for ID from anyone who looks the part as well. I wasn't aware it was not the law though.

My hats of to you InTheShade, I believe as many that we were all young once and many of us got away with smoking and drinking at a "before legal" age. It doesn't make it right for the shop owner to condone it. Most of us got away with it because we had fake ID's or were doing it where adults wouldn't see us. These kids are doing it in plain view and with the marketing to kids issues our community is facing at the moment, this guy is just fueling the fire.
At this rate - he wont be in business for long.

I would love to see an organized group of like minded vapers enter the store at different times (like a flash mob) and then have someone point out that they were serving children. When the owner gives his "its my business and I will run it any way I want" attitude then everyone walks out - see if he cries as he sees all that money walk out the door. hee hee

I was always a tall young man who looked and sounded older than my years.
I was buying alcohol at 16 years old pretty much anywhere without getting carded.

And just in case, I too had a fake ID from an older friend whose description fit mine.
To this day I still can't believe he trusted me getting a driver's license in his name, but I don't think I ever used it.

I still have it, some 30 years later, as a souvenir of my earlier days.
Days I may or not be proud of.

Anyway, I have to wonder if I would get away with that stuff today.
They card a lot more heavily than they did back then.

And yeah, I dated a really hot 30 year-old lady when I was 16 years old.
She was a lot hotter than I was mature.

So I visited my local B&M this evening on the way home from work. Opened the door, walked in to a vape filled store with 3 kids (real kids, like 13/14 years old) all vaping away on the sofas.

It kind of shocked me, I really wanted to say something to the owner, but I bottled it and didn't say anything.

The guy had a really nice set up, great prices too for a B&M, so I bought a couple of bottle of juice, had a chat (recommended the ECF and CASAA of course) and left. All the while these kids are vaping away, some with Egos, one had a sentinel and RDA. I actually think they were related to him, but I wasn't sure.

All the way home kept thinking I should have said something.

So fellow ECFers should I just go back and tell him straight up, call him, never go back and forget it or mind my own dang business?

If you are right and the kids are really 13 or 14, this owner is an idiot that should get the hell out of the vaping industry, he should be ashamed of himself and I wish him all the worst... Go bankrupt ......!!!

I would loose it!!! I would make a terrible scene in that B&M.

I know it probably feels rude to ask "What the heck are these children doing vaping?!", and that's probably because your a gentleman like I am. :p

I'd casually bring it up. Something along the lines of

"It's good that kids have a better alternative to smoking these days eh? *Do you have to be 18 to vape 0?*"

Or even:

"I didn't expect to see them so young in here, maybe I'm just getting old? LOL"

And if he beats around the bush:

"Are these your kids?. Did you check their I.D.'s, I remember when I used to sneak into the tobaccy shops LOLOLOL!"

If he still avoids it:

"... ARE THESE YOUNGUNS DOIN IN HERE?! IT MAKES VAPING LOOK TERRIBLE, AND YOUR BUSINESS LOOK SKETCHY!"

lol just kidding, but that's what I'd be screaming on the inside, maybe his kids are bad eggs, and this is just a way to keep them on the "better" track.

Putting aside all else, I find it sketchy that a grown *ss man would want to hang around with 14-15 yo's all day long.

Much like we often do writing campaigns to government officials about vaping making we should do the same with slacking B&M's letting them know that they are harming the future of vaping with shoddy business practices.

Maybe I missed it (if so, sorry!)... are you certain these kids are under 18? Did the guy acknowledge that they were underage? The reason I ask is that I'm 26 and am still getting dirty looks from people when I smoke (before I quit this year, ofc) or vape and gas station attendants STILL give my ID a triple-check before they'll sell me anything. Looking young sucks, guys...

I'm with everyone else being appalled though, if they are truly kids. We don't need that crap right now...
