So I've just starting vaping, all my gear is working just fine, but eventually I am going to want extra batteries for "just in case." Can I buy any old 510 battery and stick it on my charger or do I need to match the mah? The charger itself isn't labeled very well and the instructions that came with the kit say nothing about exchanging parts.

Welcome , but you don't say what device you have . That being said , mah rating has nothing to do with your PV , the higher the rating , the longer it lasts between charging . And there are no " 510 " batteries , if you look , you will see that your battery probably has some numbers on it , such as 18650 , 14500 , etc . That is , unless you have some kind of Ego , or clone . Really can't be more specific, until we know what it is , your using .

If you have a Joye-510 stick battery type of e-cig, you can use other 510 stick batteries with the charger as long as the polarity is the same. They output of your charger would be rated for the battery you have, so a larger battery would just take longer to charge.

If, by a "510 battery" you mean something like an eGo, then the same thing applies as long as the voltages and polarity match.

Other than being physically able to connect the new battery with the charger, you need to make sure that the new and old batteries have the same voltage and polarity, and that the output of the charger (Ma) doesn't exceed the mah of the new battery. For example, don't charge a 180mah battery with a 420mah charger. If your newer battery is a higher mah than your existing battery, this is not an issue because the existing charger would be matched to the old, lower mah battery.

I have an Ego T. I could easily find a matching battery, the site where I bought it has them. What I want to know is if an exact match matters.

It doesn't need to match exactly. The big thing is the voltage. Make sure both batteries are the same voltage. Make sure the new battery is at least as big as the old one and you should be fine.

Do you have a link to the website? The problem is that, technically, all ego batteries are 3.7V. The output of the eGo-T is regulated to 3.4V. I think they all charge with a charger that outputs 4.2V, but I'm not positive about that. The 3.7 and 3.4V ego batteries could use different chargers. I'm 99% sure that they don't, but it's possible. I'm also 99% sure that all ego type batteries use the same charger except the Vgo.

Is there any info. on your existing charger? Does it say anything about output voltage?

Wait, Wait, Wait. I just remembered something. The other day, someone posted a graphic showing all the ego chargers and what models they fit. The only difference between them was their rate of charge, except the VGO. So, the only concern is the size of the battery. If your new battery is at least as big as your old one, you'll be fine using the old charger.

Awesome, thanks. I didn't want to be forever stuck with 1 battery or have a bunch of different chargers.

Can I buy any old 510 battery...?

Do NOT use that charger on the small cig sized batteries, it will fry them!

Just had this discussion with a coworker the other day. "510" is used as a model number to refer to the slim batteries as well as the threading that is found on eGos and mods. As D. Waterhouse noted, the eGo charger should not be used with the slim 510 batteries.
