you can get a 500g .01 accurate scale on amazon for 15 - 25 bucks

I have this one and it works great once calibrated (needed a 500g weight) and no issues for me with 180 second auto shut off - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4KX6JQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

most recommend this since it has ac adapter to eliminate auto shut off - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product...fl_title_17?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1DVPD9Q368DLM

note that a 250ml glass amber bottle will take up more than half that 500g capacity

That doesn't matter since you tare after each ingredient you add. The recipe calls for 1.20g of sweet strawberry so you add that then tare it back to 0.00 for the next ingredient.

What doesn't matter? The auto shutoff or the bottle weight? If you mean the auto shutoff; I agree with you. Because you are starting with basically a "zero" reading with each additional ingredient; it doesn't matter if the scale shuts off between ingredients.
Bottle/container weight is a different issue. It does matter because it still counts toward the total capacity of the scale even if you use the tare function.
So with @Hoggy 's example of a 50 gram capacity scale, if he uses a 25 gram bottle; he will only be able to place a maximum of 25 additional grams worth of "stuff" into it without exceeding the scale's total capacity and get an error message. This is the exact reason I had to replace my 50 gram powder scale with one with greater capacity.

ahhh, so my assumptions were correct and all these plastic 150 and 250ml bottles I got weren't for naught?

Correct. Plastic weighs less than glass, so you can use a larger plastic container vs. a glass container, and have greater remaining scale capacity left. Now, whether you want larger volumes stored in plastic is a whole other thought. :D

Feature suggestion:

The 'adjust inventory' button: would it be easy to add a section to that popup window that opens with check boxes to deselect some of the ingredients?

I often make up a nic + vg + pg base recipe and click make recipe for my unflavored recipe. Later when I want to make a smaller recipe with flavors I figure out how much those 3 ingredients would weigh for a recipe I want to make. Then I just add flavors + base to a smaller bottle. I then use the ingredient editor to reduce flavor inventory and manually edit the last made on date. This is simple for a 1 or 2 flavor recipe but if the recipe has 5 or 6 flavors it is a bit tedious. If I could click 'adjust inventory' and then deselect the nic + vg + pg that I already made into a larger unflavored recipe it would make things easier for this process.

When I first started into DIY E juice I bought an American Weigh Scales LB-3000. Problem with it was it only went to .01 grams. I too bought it thinking much better for large batches and went up to 3000g. I was wrong. Lot of guess work, and was slow to increase when getting close to your desired weight often going way over because of the delay. after about a month it was flipping out and we ended up returning it. Got the LB-501 next. 500 Gram capacity with 0.01g resolution, and it came with 2 200 gram calibration weights. This scale was so sensitive it picked up the air blowing from a ceiling fan. I would highly recommend this scale. Mixing from a glass flask is far less loss on you max weight vs a 120ml bottle to start. For instance 150ml flask is around 32g. Don't quote me on exact cause not at home, can update later if needed. Im sure there are plastic flasks as well which will drop you starting weight even more.. Flasks work better on your magnetic stirrer as well. pour in bottle afterwards..

So my wife told me about this new calculator. Yesterday I was curious and downloaded it last night. Started probing around the menus and was like wow. This is totally awesome. I commend you HotRod for all you work on this truly remarkable calculator. Thank you sir! In reading thru this thread your interaction with the community and their input, coupled with your response is superb! Explains a lot. Currently inputting my inventory before I import recipes. Spent several hours last night on it, got a lot to go.. Good thing the wife saved the receipts. Talk about going high tech.

Keep in mind, when you import recipes new ingredients will be added if the names of the ingredients don't match the names of your existing ingredients. You may want to consider importing your recipes and then updating the ingredients with cost, inventory, etc.

Thanks for the advice, I'm about a quarter of the way thru my inventory. When I was adding Manufactures, i used the aliases box to things like CAP or (CAP) which I used after ingredient in recipe. My understanding is it will pick those up and add correctly. Is this correct?

Yes, I would track the recipes steeping by recipe name and date mixed.
Recipe name in green, when would it change back to normal color and if you had the same recipe steeping twice, would it show green for done if one is done and the other isn't? I think the color change could get confusing.

I find it simple to add a mature date to my phone calendar. I get an alarm and can also quickly check what I have steeping. Not sure I want to keep going to the PC booting up this program just to see what I have aging. However in my case I only have a few mixes that need time to come around. I try and stick with shake and vapes.

Only my opinion.

Just finished going through my imported recipes (all the added ingredient(s) duplicate(s)..)... Took a very long time... STILL LOVE THIS PROGRAM! Am I the only one that cannot sort the ingredient list with the manufacturer tab though? If not I really would love that ability; albeit a one-time use right now. ( this way I can arrange all the manufacturers for easier price updates for each manufacturer more easily ). BUT it would also make updates to ingredients of a specific manufacturer much easier as well. This would save time scrolling through the list to look for specific ingredient(s) name(s).

Thanks again for all your hard work!

Well I found the way that it can be done, but that does kind of add a step consisting of leaving the ingredient list (if the user is not previously aware of how to do it **like myself**). Still glad it can be done though. And as always keep up the great work!

Version 8.0.0.0 is available. Changes include:

1. When viewing the shopping list the “per ml” cost of an ingredient was being rounded to the nearest cent causing the total calculation to not total the original purchase price. This was fixed however there is small side effect. If an ingredient cost is something such as 0.199 the amount displayed in the shopping list will be 0.20. When the total cost is calculated it might appear that the total cost is being calculated incorrectly (0.199 * X instead of 0.20 * X).

2. When clicking on the "Adjust inventory" button for a recipe you will have the option to select which ingredients that you want to adjust.

3. Added the ability to track steeping time of recipes:

- Added "View->Steeping recipes" to display/remove all recipes being steeped.

- Added a "Days to steep" on the main recipe window. When not 0 the steeping time will be tracked for the recipe. This value will also be saved and remain associated with the recipe.

- In "Tools->options", Recipe defaults, added a "Generate steeping complete message" option. When checked a message will be generated when the program is launched if the steeping has been completed or any recipes.

Thanks once again Rod. Excellent new features.

I read some requests for new features. Here's mine:

    WIshlist:
    • Option to turn off “Below inventory threshold” window at startup and when a Recipe is made.
    • Be able to search for ingredients in ingredients editor and current inventory. E.g, search for “cream”. Would be great if Regex support.
    • Default Nicotine Vendor Ingredient setting for new recipe. Currently it always chooses “None” thus making Red state (Could be a Mac/Wine problem).
    • Default “Paste text only” setting for notes. So Ctrl-V prints non-formatted plain text.
    • Be able to save an image in each recipe. Perhaps replacing the current icon space. (Drag/drop auto resize would be great)
    • Remember the size of windows such as Ingredient Inventory, Add to shopping List, etc.
    • A Count label of the number of times a recipe is made. Should also adjust down/up with "Reduce or Increase inventory" window.
    • Selectable sorted headers in shopping list. Like in Current Inventory.
    • Options->Ingredients defaults: Default values per Flavour manufacturer/Vendor. E.g, Cost Capella 3.00 15Ml, Cost TPA 2.40 15Ml, FA 2.80 10 Ml, etc.
    • Ingredients Editor: Filter by manufacturer
    • Enable Main Recipe window scroll bars when “Add ingredients” window showing.
    • Currently Recipe Flavour inc/dec is 0.5. Nice to have a setting in Recipe defaults for this. E.g., I would like 0.25

Great additions. Love the steep feature! I noticed that it only works once you hit "Make Recipe".

I think we should also add in that the print label button will
    1. Adjust inventory and update the last made date.
    2. Activate the new Steep function.
Basically it will be the "Make Recipe" button but also give you a label.

Im curious to hear everyone thoughts on this?

In "Tools->options", Recipe defaults, added a "Generate steeping complete message" option. When checked a message will be generated when the program is launched if the steeping has been completed or any recipes.
I tried to test this by changing the date on my PC. It didnt work but it may be looking elsewhere for the date. Can this be tested by changing the date on a PC?
