Someone asked about where to find information about mixing by weight. I linked this thread as a reply. Then the Nazi admin lady condemned the practice. When I protested, she PMed me that I had been kicked out of the group.

Nothing worse than a Nazi admin. I always assume a few things about them 1) They have no life, 2) They have no authority over anyone or anything in real life and their cyber authority has gone to their head, 3) Suffer from a serious case of Napoleon Syndrome, etc...

Which group, would love to read the post where she condemned the practice and your reply

No different than the vaping prohibitionists. To the uninformed and paranoid mind, that which is not understood is something to be feared.

So, I indicated I had some other suggestions for the calculator.

1. Any where that drops are displayed, they should be rounded to integers. Can't dispense 1.372 drops.

2. I'd like to be able to run this from a USB drive. It will execute from USB (I tested it) but, currently the software saves user settings in the Documents and Settings folder. This means that user options are not carried from machine to machine if I run from USB. It also remembers the last file opened as an absolute path. Since I have 3 computers of different configurations, the USB drive is never the same drive letter. This may be a difficult undertaking, but would be a nice feature.

3. From the New Recipe button, you get the New Recipe Window. You must type a recipe name for the "OK" button to be enabled. I like this, it's a good way to handle things. However, you have to tab out of the text field to get focus on the OK button to use the Enter key. When I'm finished typing my recipe name, pressing Enter while still in the text field should accept the string, close the sub window, and start the new recipe.

4. Recipe Printing
A. When printing a recipe, it prints all the notes, even the ones on the ingredients. I put a fair amount of information in the ingredients notes. They are for my own reference, but don't have an impact on the recipe itself, so I'd like the option of turning the ingredients notes off. Sometimes, I may not want the recipe notes either, so a switch for this would be nice also. Both should probably be able to set permanently on the main options screen, but be able to override from the print screen.
B. The grams column will display in 1, 2 or 3 significant digits according to rounding, unlike the rest that always display in the same number of significant digits (have trailing zeros).
C. For recipe printing, options to change font type and especially size would help with page layout. Its also seem to default to double space on the line spacing
D. Label printing has a good start. I have some ideas, but I'll PM you about them.

5. From Menu/Edit/Rename Recipe, you get a sub window. Unfortunately, the text entry field is empty. It should start with an initial value of the current recipe name. This way, you don't have to retype the whole name just to correct a spelling error.
A. Please add a "Rename Recipe" button under the "New Recipe" button on the main screen.

I know I have a lot here. These are just observations I made as I was learning/working with the software. I must say though, this is a great ejuice calculator, and none of my comments are intended to detract from the fantastic job you've done. I've tried them all, and in my mind, yours is simply the best out there. I particularly like all the effort you put into the simple calculators. They are immensely useful.

Feel free to hit me up if you need some beta testing done. I'll be more than happy to help where I can.

I like all of your ideas and will see what I can do. Some of the changes are fairly easy while others may be a little more involved. It will keep me busy for a while. Please, keep the ideas coming.

The changes related to the location to save the settings is going to need a lot of thought. I need to save them to a "known" location that the application can always find them. One thought is to save them to the same folder that the application is running from however this could cause issue for some users. The later versions of Windows is attempting to lock down some of the folders such as "Program Files" and this could cause some issues related to permissions. Ideas would be welcome.

Version 3.1.0.5 is available for download. A summary of the changes:

  1. Moved the "Help" menu option on the main window from the right side of the menu bar to the left side.
  2. The setting for the show Min/Max button wasn't being saved when new versions were installed. It is now saved.
  3. When entering a new recipe and providing the name you were being forced to click the "OK" button. Now you can type the new name and hit the enter key to create the new recipe.
  4. When the "rename recipe" window is displayed it will be pre-populated with the name of the currently selected recipe name.
  5. Added a "Rename recipe" button to the main window.
  6. The "Options" window was getting cluttered. The options window is now divided up into tabs.
  7. Added a checkbox to the "Print Defaults" tab of the Options window. You can now elect not to print your ingredient notes when printing a recipe.
  8. When grams was being printed the trailing zeros (down to 1/1000) was not being printed. They now print.
I am still investigating other changes that were recommended in this thread. They are a little more involved and will take some time.

I just made another version available, V3.1.0.6.

  1. Stopped adding the "import from" note to ingredients when dragging and dropping in the File Maintenance program.
  2. Add the ability to select the font to use when printing your recipe. It is on the "Printer defaults" tab of the options window.
  3. Added a new option to turn off the printing of the recipe notes. It is on the "Printer defaults" tab of the options window.
  4. Added an option to specify that the lines in the printed recipe should be single spaced instead of double spaced. It is on the "Printer defaults" tab of the options window.

HotRod....I installed your calc on second desktop and bypassed the text readability issues that were a problem for me on a too-modified PC......I`m now thoroughly enjoying your Calc, and would be lost without it Thanks Man !!!!

Let me know if you have any issues or come up with ideas for changes.

Her HotRod! I want to say thanks for the hard work and endless hours you are putting into this, this calculator is by far the best one out there. I do have a question about it though. If I install the newest version, is it gonna add back all the duplicate ingredients that I have been so diligently deleting? And will it delete my recipes that I have created?

I think I can answer this for HotRod.
The ingredients and recipes are saved in a file separate from the program itself. So no, nothing should change in your recipes when updating the program.

Hope this helps.
