I just made version 4.0.0.7 available. The changes included:

  1. Rearranged the look and feel of the main recipe window and moved several of the buttons on the window to a tool strip.
  2. Updated the Manage Ingredients window and moved the buttons to a tool strip.
  3. Added back the ability to type in the ingredient name in the "Add Ingredient" dropdown list.
  4. Added "PreSet" values. You can select a PreSet value from the "Edit->Load PreSet Values" and it will set values in the selected recipe for Amount to make, PG/VG percentages and Nicotine level. You can provide the values for the PreSets in "Tools->Options->PreSets".
  5. Added inventory alerts. In the Manage Ingredients window you can now specify a "Inventory alarm threshold". If you have enabled "Display Inventory messages" in the "Tools->Options>Ingredient defaults" you will receive a message that you have fallen below the threshold when 1) The program is launched, 2) You open a juice file and 3) when you click the "Inventory" button on the main recipe window.

I hope I don't get cussed, flamed, outed, or whatever for asking this question but I still can't figure out where to find recipes I've imported from any other program. I think I'm a spreadsheet idiot. The only place I see recipes is if I click on the down arrow where the recipe name is listed. But that will become a huge list and I thought there was a way to open a recipe by clicking on the "open" command from the menu.
Again, sorry for such a basic question. Maybe I'm trying to over-think this, but I now have myself all twisted up......:D
TIA for any help or advise.......

I just made V4.0.0.8 available. It appears I created an issue with the numeric control used to specify the ingredient percentage of a recipe. You could use the up/down arrows to change the percentage but if you tried typing in a value the control was not behaving correctly.
The issue with the control is fixed in this version.

When you import a recipe the imported recipe will show in the dropdown list labeled "Recipes".

All recipes and ingredients are stored in a single "juice file" and the recipes are selected by clicking the dropdown arrow for the recipe combobox. The list could become large but there are different ways to sort the recipes in the list and you can assign "ratings" to your recipes and see them sorted by the rating value.
You can also create several juice files. You can "File->Close" the juice file that you have opened and add ingredients and recipes and do a "File->Save As" to save a new juice file. To access different juice files that you have created you can use the "File->Open".

When working with multiple juice files there is another program that is installed called "FileMaintenance". This program will allow you to open two juice files and drag/drop recipes from one juice file to another juice file.

Thanks very much, HotRod.... this helps big time. I'll now try and see if I can implement what you clearly stated. I'm sure it will work out in the end. A really nice program you have made.... Thanks!!

Have a question here
I've mixed up a batch using grams. My last last ingredient was vg nic. I think I over shot my weight on it because my scale turned off on me while dispensing. Then I added more not knowing exactly how much I needed
Question is - I know what the total weight of my mix is.
How can it figure for me the true amount of nic now in my mix.
I tried some of the add-on tools but they won't let me add Nic to achieve what it weighs and while it is gaining in total mls.
It wants to keep the total mls. as per recipe.
Did I somehow explain this properly.

If I understand correctly you added all of your ingredients and the only thing in question is the amount of nicotine.
Here is what is known:
- You know the total weight of what the recipe should be (displayed on the recipe window).
- You know the resulting weight of your mixture.
- We can assume that "resulting weight" minus "recipe weight" is the overage of nicotine (if positive).

The calculator won't help you directly but I did uncover a change I should make to the "Tools->Build recipe from ingredient amounts". I didn't allow for grams to be entered, that would have solved your problem.

One way to calculate the results:
Lets say that your "overage" is 2 grams and that your nicotine weight is 1 gram/ml. Divide 2 by 1 and you know that you added 2ml to much.
Select your recipe in the recipe window. Now launch "Tools->Build recipe from ingredient amounts->Start with selected recipe". Add 2ml to the nicotine amount and it will show you the results which includes PG/VG ratio and mg level.

Changes I need to make to the "Build recipe from ingredient amounts":
1. I currently only allow you to enter the amounts in ML or drops. I need to add grams.
2. In the results area of the window I have the "Nicotine" mislabeled. It reflects a label of "g" and it should be labeled "mg".

I hope this helps.

See my previous post.
I just made available an update, V4.0.0.9. This update addresses the changes to the "Build recipe from ingredient amounts" changes discussed in my previous post.

JulesXsmokr, here is what you need to do:
1. Calculate the difference in the weight of what your recipe called for and what your resulting total weight was. I am assuming that the difference in weight is your nicotine weight. See my previous post.
2. Select your recipe in the recipe window.
3. Launch the "Tools->Build recipe from ingredient amounts->Start with selected recipe".
4. Add the amount calculated in step 1 to the grams for the nicotine ingredient.
5. The results should reflect what your current mixture contains.

Hotrod, I LOVE this calculator. I think it's wonderful that you're actively developing it, too.

I have one small difficulty with it, but I think it would be pretty easy to fix.

When diluting nicotine ingredients, or adding nicotine ingredients, it currently won't take a decimal place (it just rounds to the nearest milligram). The way I often mix, it would be very helpful to be able to use two decimal places, so for example to be able to add a nicotine ingredient with a strength of 3.75mg/ml.

The reasoning for this is that some people prefer to mix a dilute base, and work with a fixed ratio. So for example, if I'm always using a 20/80 ratio in favour of VG, and I use VG based nic, I could use an ingredient with 3.75mg/ml nic to achieve a standard 3mg finished juice. The calculator would simply leave out the straight VG, as the volume would be made up by the nicotine ingredient.

Thanks for everything you've done with this application!

The only place I could find where the nicotine level wouldn't allow decimal places was on the manage ingredients window and I changed it to allow 2 decimal digits. It will be in the next version that I post.
As an FYI, visually it was not displaying decimal digits and appeared to be rounding however the program was storing the value with all decimal digits that you entered and using the value, with decimal places, in all recipe calculations.

Wow that was fast. Thank you so much!

I found one other slight graphical issue, but you're probably aware of it. If you expand the vertical height of the window, the notes section shrinks and disappears. The warning section moves down properly, but the notes section gets covered up by spacing under the ingredient list. This is really minor, there's not much reason to expand the window that much (and notes still work fine by undocking it), but I thought I'd mention it.

I wasn't aware this was happening and it took me a while to figure out how to make it occur. The problem only occurred if you "undocked" the notes from the main window and then re-docked it. After re-docking it displayed the symptoms you described.
It is fixed and will be included in the next version.

Version 4.0.1.0 was just made available for download. Changes include:
  1. When specifying the nicotine level of an ingredient the value was being truncated to a whole number. Allowed for entry of two decimal places.
  2. After un-docking and re-docking the notes from the recipe window, the notes would not size properly when the recipe window was sized. Fixed.
