Hey Hotrod! Hope you had a Happy Holiday!

I just loaded the newest version, and now I cannot create a new ingredient, or select a manufacturer. Both boxes are grayed out.
I did try to create a manufacturer (TFA) but it doesnt seem to let me create another manufacturer after that, again box is grayed out.

Am i missing something? or is there a bug?

One thing that I can think of is before you came up with a Manufacturers list, I had already named my flavors beginning with "TFA Ripe Banana" for example to indicate what Manufacturer it was. Is that causing the glitch?

Thanks!

Type the new ingredient name in the box and the Create button should enable allowing you to create the ingredient. The same is true with the manufacturer, you should first type in the new name and then you can click the create button.

Many people were having issue with the way that the "Create New Ingredient" button (and the Create manufacturer) was functioning and I also didn't like it. I have made an update which will give you the option to specify how the button works. In Tools->Options there are two checkboxes available, "Prompt for new ingredient name on manage ingredients window" and "Prompt for new manufacturer on edit manufacturer window".
By default the button will always be enabled and when clicked, you will be prompted to enter the new name.
You can change the option and it will work as it does today.

Some folks also provided input on the manufacturer window and the search feature to associate a manufacturer to existing ingredients. The program finds all ingredients that matches the criteria entered, associates the manufacturer to the ingredients and then removes the search string from the ingredient name. You can now choose whether you want the string removed from the ingredient name.

This version is posted and is version 3.1.0.1. Other changes:
  • The "browse" button on the backup options window wasn't working, fixed.
  • Add the ability to choose how ingredients contained in a recipe are displayed (sort order). View->Sort recipe ingredients
  • Added the ability to change the manufacturer associated with an ingredient on the manage ingredients window.
  • Modified the "Simple Calculator" function. There are now 7 different general purpose calculators.

HotRod,

Still been using the calculate and following all the updates. Really amazing!!

Just went through and associated manufacturer to all my ingredients, worked like a charm.

Reading through the help me file now because I want to try and import the recipes that you have included from other sources, tried it before but didn't know how.

Thanks again.

If you want to import/merge/combine two different juice files (XML files) there are two methods:

1. You can use the "Tools->Import from recipe calculator". You will browse to the other file that you want to import from. It will then list all of the recipes that are contained in the file. Place check marks next to the recipes you want to import and click the "Import" button. Those recipes will now be included in the recipe file that you were working in. You will need to click the "Save" button to save the changes.

2. Use the "File Maintenance" program. You want to open your two files; the one that you want to import the recipes into and the one that you want to import the recipes from. You will notice that all recipes and ingredients contained in the files will be listed. Drag/Drop the recipes or the ingredients from one file to the other. Note; if you drag/drop a recipe, all ingredients associated with the recipe will be added to the file that you drop the recipe into. The ingredients will only be added if they are not already contained in the destination file. When you are done, click the "Save" or the "Save As" button to save the file that you were updating.

Thanks HotRod.

I am still having trouble. When i go to the updates section I see options to download dot1mljuicedata, eliquidjuicedata, and juicemeupdata.

These are the recipes you have gathered from other sources I thought. When I download them they just open in a new browser, and I am not able to save them or open them with your recipe calculator.

I know it is something I am doing wrong, any suggestions?

The recipes on the website that you download from are in a .ZIP format (compressed to make them smaller). After downloading the .ZIP file you should open it. Inside the .ZIP file is a file with a .XML extension. Copy the .XML file to some directory on your PC. You will then be able to open the .XML file using either of the two methods I described earlier.

Here is what I will do if it will make it easier. Within the next few minutes or so I will also place a non-zipped version on the website. You will then see two of each of the recipe files. One called .ZIP and one called .XML. You can then download the .XML version directly.

I just started DYI and have been using your calculator thanks for taking the time to develop it its helped me
One thought I had was it would be nice if the software had a way to print labels maybe with a batch # or better yet the formula this would make it easier to keep track things
Thanks for your work

I am not sure how to tackle this one. The paper for labels come in so many sizes with various numbers of labels per page. I have seen standalone programs that support 100's of different label styles. I would welcome any ideas that might target a few specific label sizes that are generally available.

Thanks for your response
I admit it could be involved to do but even on a simple level it would be very useful
One thought I had was to put the info in a area that would allow you to copy with clip board and paste it to another program such as ms word which has label printing built in or even a button that would copy it to the clip board
I going to put some more thought in to it and get back to you
Thanks for considering my suggestion
Walt

After importing there are a lot of duplicate entries for nicotine and other ingredients, any way to clean these up?
Unfortunately everyone names their ingredients differently and that triggers a lot of the duplicates. To assist in the cleanup you can use the “Edit->Find and replace ingredients”. You specify the ingredient name to find and the name to replace it with. Optionally you can check the box “Delete ‘Find Ingredient’ after replacing”.

Man I was just wishing for the separate manufacturer feature the other day. It's like you read my mind.

I was thinking the other day about the possibility of having master recipies vs an "as mixed" batch record. Doing this could also lead into a type of inventory management system. Which could itself lead into features like showing you how much you can mix of any recipie given current inventory. Lots of potential for this app.

HotRod, man, what a great program! I had been putting off trying this for some time, getting the patience up to learn something new and thinking it would be too complicated. I tried it yesterday, and it only took me just a little bit to begin to understand it. I'm just starting today to input a recipe, can't wait to use it for mixing, soooooooo much easier and cleaner than multiple syringes. THANK YOU for the work on this and sharing with all of us!
