Anyway, real reason I'm posting here is to see if anything can be done about the annoying 'BING' sound every time the enter key is pressed in the main window. Say you're adding flavors to a new recipe, you punch in the percentage and hit enter to save it, it 'bings' at you every time. Maybe just an option to turn off sounds in the program?
I realize this could be an isolated issue with my computer..maybe some windows sound setting I'm overlooking. If you notice the same thing HotRod, I'd love an option to turn it off.
Thanks!
I wasn't aware the beeping was occurring. I don't use the enter key, I always tab. I found out that this is a default action in Windows but I did find a way to suppress it. I suppressed the sound on several of the windows but not all. I will try to update them in the future.

Version 4.0.2.2 is available which will suppress the beeping.

Thank you very, very much!
The beeping is fixed on the main window when adding ingredients, which is the only place I was getting it.
Heh, never thought to use TAB because its all the way on the other side of the keyboard! I'm so lazy (or efficient..) that I just use the enter key on the numpad right beside my mouse.

As for the print function, I can't duplicate that problem now!! The basic print label function is working no matter what options I choose. Sorry about that anyway, I guess it was just a one-off glitch on my machine. Either way, I'm sure most will stick with the advanced label maker- If for nothing else that to stack the labels for all the juices into the queue so they can be printed all at once.

Thanks again!

The standard for 99% of data entry is, Enter is Execute and Tab is next field.
There are some popular software that can or might use both as a next field.
But generally speaking, Tab is next field.

This is all just suggestions, ideas for future versions......

Speaking of fields.
Some fields such as for PG/VG do not always increment/decrement properly.
When I hit the up or down button on PG, it will not change VG. and vice versa.
I see how it does work, but I think they should recalculate to each other.
then when you hit a ratio that doesn't work, present the error.
It kinda threw me for a bit in how that was working.
But, it should also let you choose your own ratios as well,, maybe a checkbox next to it for independent movement vs. combined movement?

Also, if possible, make it so ingredients can be reorganized in a recipe, manually moved?
Drag and Drop could cause instability with the app. But arrows to move ingredients up and down would work.
But I would not let them be placed above PG/VG/NIC fields, those should stay at the top.

As well as 2 different NIC strengths by allowing to add a 2nd NIC Field, when needed.

So, If i have a NIC that is 8mg and one that is 24mg and I want to use those both in my recipe to adjust the NIC level direct in the recipe.
right now, the only way to do that is add the second NIC as a flavor. Not a bad thing, but could be streamlined a little.

Still the best calc around.

I need help with the calculator please!! I love all the features of this calculator and want to use it so badly, but I am having problems. I have downloaded and put all the info in for ingredients, added them to my inventory (yes I saved) checked the inventory to make sure i did not forget anything. Also put list of manufacturers in. All good.

Then when i go to" new recipe", all my ingredients and the manufacturer info is gone. Ugh, I spent 45 min getting all the info in there...So, I tried looking up how to fix this but had no luck. So I removed the program from my computer and gave up. However, the next day re downloaded it. I put all the info in again. Each time I added something, I dbl checked to make sure it was saved and again all the info was there. Start a new recipe and the only thing left was PG and VG. Everything was gone again. I love all the features on this one, especially the cost factor and really really want to use it. Please help

So another 'possible' issue with the advanced print label- the 'Label Designer' feature to be exact.
I say possible because I might just be doing something wrong..

I just grabbed some smaller Avery labels today for my test batches- and am now using both templates 5160 (large) and 5167 (small).
It appears that even though you can design multiple labels in the designer, with different texts and options, the paper type selected is constant.
After designing my smaller label, I switched over to the larger label to tweak it a bit, but the paper type stayed as 5167, which auto resized my image, and left my text cut off. Obviously this is fixed quite quickly by manually reverting the settings, but could get old quite quick when swapping back and forth between label sizes several times in a mixing session.

I guess..is there any way to have the label editor have the desired paper type saved to the label, instead of being exclusive outside of the design?
(Trying to find a clear way to word this..) Make it so the paper type is linked to the design the same way as the text and picture options are? Just as text size, color, and those options will cleanly switch back and forth between labels, changing each time, I'd like to have the label template do the same.

Hopefully that is understandable. Thanks!

Where is your backup location set to? To the best of my knowledge, the backup location (in tools - options - backup options) is where the calculator looks for the xml file it uses to save all your data. So it's entirely possible all your work is still there, the calculator is just looking in the wrong spot.
Keep track of where you saved your file, and make sure the backup location is set to the same folder.

And for troubleshooting, since all your work is already 'gone', just try entering a single ingredient and then saving. Save yourself a bunch of time if this solution still doesn't work for you.

Ok, when you save, where are you saving your main recipe file to?
Once you save it once,, every time you reopen it, it should open the last Recipe file that you had open.

You can save the file wherever you wish, but, the first time you save, if you do not change the location
is C:\Users\YOURPROFILE\Documents\JuiceCalculator
with whatever name you gave it.
You must do this first.

If you do not click the Save As button and save an initial Recipe File, and exit the program without saving, you will lose everything.

There is no Auto-Save feature. Maybe there should be one, Rod?
Hard to say, cause I might make changes through the system that I realize I don't want saved.
This is a catch 22 situation. Auto-Save and have mistakes be made and saved on a regular basis
or no Auto-Save and be reminded to save on Exit. I like the latter option myself.

YES! My thoughts exactly. I'm a bit paranoid about that, so I click save after pretty much every single change I make..
But that would be great to have a reminder to save upon exit. Then if it an exit to correct a mistake, you can still get out and have your precious values just as you wanted them.
I'm wondering though..there's already the option in 'backups' to save either every 'x' number of days, or upon exit..I have it set to 'on exit', but I'm not 100% sure if it actually works, because like I said, I've saving every couple of minutes anyway. Could be an answer to the auto-save problem already maybe?

LIGHTBULB! Implement a 'back' and 'forwards' feature like word or excel, where it saves the previous 20 or so 'steps' or 'changes' you've made, so if you erase a value by accident (..guilty) you can get it back in a flash.

Lastly, I was wondering how difficult it would be to allow for re-arranging of the value columns in the main window? I started off using ml's, which was perfect because it's right next to the flavor names. Now I've switched to grams, and looking all the way to the other side of the window causes a double-take sometimes to make sure I'm looking at the correct corresponding value.

I'm going to have to donate again with all these requests..

From the main window, the recipe window, click the "Ingredients" toolbar button. Do you still see your ingredients?

If you see your ingredients, nothing is lost. When you add a new recipe there isn't any ingredients in it until you add them. Click the "Add ingredient" button and you should be prompted for one of the ingredients that you added.

If you don't see your ingredients we need to figure out where you saved them to. Click the "File->Open recent" and you should see the name of the Juice file (or files) that you have created. Select one of them and look to see if your ingredients are in it.

My guess is that if you go to the "Tools->Options" and look at the "General" tab that you have "Volume Calculation" checked. Uncheck it and the PG+VG will always total 100% and if you change either the PG or the VG percentage the other will automatically change.

Explanation:
Most people are of the belief that their PG + VG must always total 100% even if they add non PG/VG ingredients to their mix. I am probably one of the few who want to the percentages based on volume in the recipe.
An exaggerated example; I add 50ml of water, 25ml of PG and 25ml of VG to recipe. With the "Volume calculation" unchecked, the calculator will tell you that your recipe is 50% PG and 50% VG. With it checked the calculator will tell you that the recipe is 25% PG and 25% VG.
Also, when it is checked you could request a recipe of 25% PG and 25% VG which is why it doesn't automatically increment your PG/VG percentages. They will only auto increment when PG+VG exceeds 100%.
Also, if possible, make it so ingredients can be reorganized in a recipe, manually moved?
Drag and Drop could cause instability with the app. But arrows to move ingredients up and down would work.

I don't auto-save because I don't want to save changes that you didn't intend to save. I go into my recipes a lot and change "things" to see the results. I don't want those items saved.
If you have made changes and you attempt to leave the current window (or close the application) you will see a warning message that you have unsaved changes.

I am not sure that I completely understand but I believe what is going on has to do with selected fonts of the label. When you design a label you can choose the fonts to use for each item that you place in the label. While the selected/larger fonts will fit on one size label they will not fit on another size label and the text will be cut off.
When you design a label it is not associated with a paper type. The reason for the paper type selection on the designer window is so that you can see a preview of what the label will look like on that paper type as you design it.

To allow for different size types of paper you would want to create multiple templates. One template for each paper type that you will be using.

Yeah, I saw this option, but didn't take the time to play with it, I stand corrected.
And I agree with your assessment of how that should work. Volume is better
I do get thrown off by the non-PG/VG ingredients and how they are calculated.
Always thought they should be figured in some how, such as maybe reducing the overall PG/VG ratios, because they are niether
but they do reduce the ratio in reality. You can not have 110% of a liquid mix.
Thanks for explaining and implementing that calculation..

As well as 2 different NIC strengths by allowing to add a 2nd NIC Field, when needed.

Yeah this is kind of out of the norm, it might be easier just to mix it as a base to a particular strength and then add it as a NIC base to ingredients.
I thought it might save some time in certain situations. But, is probably overkill.
Make your base, add it as a NIC ingredient and be done with it, rather than adding ratios in the way I suggested.
Skip that idea. Leave it the way it is. It could cause too much confusion.

Great thread! I will subscribe to it and assist in providing feedback.
Thanks, I hope it takes off.

Wow brainfart..That makes perfect sense about the paper type selector only being used for the preview.
I thought it correlated directly to the type of paper you were going to be printing on.
Please forget I asked this question in the first place lol
It's all clear to me now, and working flawlessly.
Thanks!

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I will look into it

I just got this one yesterday and have been fiddling around with it for the day I have had it.

1st let me say I got into DIY because the lesser cost, more customized juice flavors and because I found EjuiceMeUp and it made it so easy. That being said this calculator blows EJuiceMeUp (EJM) so far outta the water it is ridiculous. Nothing against EJM it is a really good calculator, but it just can't hold a candle to this one.

The unlimited ingredients, built in inventory tracker, and extra calculators really make this more a programming work of art rather than a juice calculator. I bow in thanks and appreciation to the coder that made this. It will be the main factor in all my DIY from here on out.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I am always looking for ways to improve it so if you come up with any suggestions send them my way.
