New Calculator to try

In the mid and late 70's - I had a friend named Rod who street raced for cash in a blue 351 Cleveland powered Mach 1.
The name Rod fits the image.

Wow, the reason I got my nick name is because I drove a black Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland. You could watch the gas gauge move when you kicked it down.

I imported recipes from other calculators that I used to use and exported recipes to XML for friends who use other calculators without any problems.

I have sent an inquiry to the dot1ml support email address to see if there is any interest in developing some level of an interface between our applications. Lets see where it goes.

Yeah I think so! Instead of using it as a flavor I used it as a nicotine and set it to 24mg 50/50 mix
then I did
50% in pg field
50% in vg field
then I did 1 flavor at 20%

I noticed that If I left the desired nic level at 24 and didnt change it it would read the out the way I wanted it too. but if I lowered the nicotine it would put the pg/vg into different columns and mess it up giving me harder decimals to work with. So since it doesnt matter if I drop a bit in my mg strength I left it at 24mg, added my flavorings and then looked at the final results which show how much nicotine will be in the mix. Which was all I wanted to know so I could write it on my bottles. So yep! problem solved!


Question! I noticed that when I add a new ingredient it gives me an option to put it in a category. Where do I go to search by category? I really love this application. Thank you so much for creating it.

Set the option "Display Ingredients by category" in "Tools->Options, Ingredient defaults tab" and assign your ingredients to a category such as "Tobaccos", "Fruits", etc... or to categories such as "Hangsen", TFA", etc... On the recipe window when you click the drop down arrow to select an ingredient the ingredients will be displayed by their category (a folder structure) allowing you to drill into a "Tobaccos" folder and select one of your tobacco ingredients.

I installed your recipe starter but there are many flavors I have not acquired yet, but they look like ones I would love to try when I get in an order but I would hate to delete them. If there is not a feature for this, its fine but thought I would ask.

Not currently. You can inactivate an ingredient and prevent it from showing in the drop down lists but it doesn't hide the recipe. Not a bad idea but I have mixed feelings about hiding associated recipes because one of its ingredients is deactivated.

No problem, Although it could be set up as an optional feature. I would imagine if someone like myself were planning on having tons of recipes and we run out of certain flavor it would be easier to be able to choose to disable all recipes with that flavor for a faster search and then put the recipes back when the flavor arrives. I don't know the program well enough to decide there is a work around, but it is a thought for easier management.

It would be nice to easily see what I can make based on what I have in stock.

Valid points! since I am new to diy so there are many flavors I do not have. However, there may be a recipe that I can alter with the flavors I do have
Example:TFA banana nut bread= ripe banana and AP. The idea of deleting a potentially good recipe is sad though. Who knows you may decide you want to give it another try someday or you may have a friend that is looking for something similiar and if it is deleted, well then you would have to start from scratch. Maybe just having an archive type system so that one could just archive certain recipes they want to keep but not use for a while and retrieve them when needed? This would also take some time from the user but could essentially be used for a variety of factors and make searching for the most commonly used recipes a bit easier.

Have you tried a search for recipes by ingredients (Edit->Search for Recipes)? You select the ingredients from the list and it will will show you the recipes that match your selections. It's best to keep it to 1 mix target at a time (like Banana + AP or Strawberry + Custard) so the results will be closest to what you're aiming for. The downside is some recipes may also have ingredients you don't have so it's not the most efficient method, but it has lead me to some new creations as I put the other flavors on my shopping list (View->Shopping List)!

I'm trying to avoid deleting recipes. Who knows, someday I may meet someone who likes tobacco and I'll have a few recipes to give them.

Here is what I do in the situations where I have a recipe, but missing some ingredients. I rename the recipe and prepend a Z# to the name. I will explain why:

Say I have recipe called "Stellar Vape". I am missing 2 ingredients. I rename it to "Z2 Stellar Vape". The letter Z is to force that recipe to the bottom of my recipe list so it won't get in the way when I am looking through my recipes. The number 2 signifies how many ingredients I am missing to make it. If I had a recipe with 3 missing ingredients, I would name it "Z3 somename".

You could also skip the "Z" and just put the number before the name, which will move it to the top of your recipe list. It is very easy to change the name back when you have all the ingredients.

Yea, different naming conventions is helpful for organizing.
I name my recipes "A2 Blueberry" : A for the blueberry mix (which is my A #1 mix) 2 for the 2nd version. So all blueberry is in A.
Final mixes are giving #'s as in 1 Blueberry Creamy so they are on top.

One thing I noticed is it uses the 'old' way of Microsoft? sorting.

12 comes before 2. My old Microsoft Office used to do like this, newer version doesn't, so somehow the calculator is using the old sorting method.

Could we see more localisation in terms of dates and prices? we use DD/MM/YYYY in the UK, rather than MM/DD/YYYY, and of course pounds (£), rather than dollars - it'd be nice if the program detected the system locale.

The currency thing is less essential, but accidentally typing dates in the wrong format gets kind of annoying after a while.

Another addition that would be useful to those of us with rapidly expanding collections of flavours would be an ingredient "code" text field that could be included in the recipe print outputs and stock lists.
It probably only needs to be three characters - I'm using a letter to denote the flavour class (F for fruits, M for Mints, etc) and a double-digit.

I am a new DIYer and quickly found this calculator is better than anything else I had experimented with. I'm using it extensively, and within a few weeks my recipe list has already gotten big and difficult to navigate. I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but are there plans to add some kind of organizational tool for the recipes? Like folders or tags or something. Maybe I should investigate making a new juice file for some?

I've gone with organizing by #'s.
With the way it sorts, I started with 1000 and skip by 2's and then 20's for flavors.
Example:
1000 Blueberry Swirl / 1002 Blueberry Crumble / 1004 Blueberry Muffin (and then for different mixes of: 1000 Blueberry Swirl 1, 1000 Blueberry Swirl 2
1020 Strawberry etc.
1040 RY4 Dble Carmel etc.

Using different files can work.
I always forgot which one I was working it, when I saved it where etc. and got messy.
A separate file just for favorites might work. I still managed to get it all jumbled though - ha!

Just some thoughts on how I'm doing it.
Definitely takes some forethought on how you would like to manage it.
