Hi HotRod, Any plans on adding the 'Location' field to Edit -> Ingredient Editor ?
How about increasing the width of the drop down for Ingredient Name? With the option to have a location showing in the ingredient name , some of the names are too long to fit anymore.

Thank You for the best calc available

Hi there, and thanks for this brilliant calculator, which I just installed on my Mac with WineBottler (required .NET 4.0).

I noticed a nasty bug and thought I would bring it to your attention. But please note that I am not in any way complaining. This software is absolutely brilliant and I cannot thank you enough.

    The bug:
I inserted all my ingredients/per manufacturer into the inventory. I then inserted some recipes. All good so far. I then added an ingredient to the inventory but I haven't bought it yet so I set the inventory amount for it to zero. This is correct. However, I then proceeded to enter a new recipe to include this flavour and saved the recipe. When I clicked "Make recipe" it completed and in doing so deducted all the recipe amounts from my inventory even though one of the ingredients is zero. I.e., not in stock, so to speak. So, my thinking here is a) it should not allow "make recipe" if insufficient ingredients are available from my current inventory. b) importantly, it should not then allow me to add them back (via adjust inventory) as in doing so, its actually added the none-existing amount to my inventory.

Anyway. So happy with this software. Thanks again.

You do get a red notification text when there is not enough ingredients to mix the recipe. Having the button disabled altogether is unwanted, since your inventory might not be updated.

As for adding back ingredients, it's a useful feature you can use when you make a mistake and take out too much ingredients out of your inventory (happened to me).

I have added the location field to the ingredient editor and also increased the width of the ingredient name field on the ingredients window. They will be in the next version. I'm going to have to give more thought to adding the location field to the ingredient name displays.

I am not sure about this change. Obviously if you are "making a recipe" you have enough ingredients to make it. Some people, I am probably one of them, don't keep their ingredient inventory as accurate as others might. To block the ability to decrease the inventory of the ingredients that they do have could get in the way. For instance, I keep track of all of my inventory with the exception of PG and VG. I keep a lot of it sitting around so I don't bother to log the quantity I have. This would prevent me from reducing the inventory of the ingredients that I do track.

Maybe its something to do with running under wine. I don't see anything in "red" when there isnt enough ingredients. E.g., I have added FW Cheesecake to my ingredients inventory but with 0ml Inventory amount since it's on order and haven't got it yet. But I can add it to a recipe even with zero inventory for it and not see anything in red. No hint or warning that this flavour is out-of-stock. So then, with the recipe complete I can click "Make recipe" and it happily complies again without hint or warning. This reduces the inventory amounts as expected for all the ingredient flavours but since there isn't any FW Cheesecake, the inventory for it stays at zero.

At this point I realised the mistake so added all the ingredients back to the inventory. But on doing so it added 0.3Ml of FW Cheesecake to the inventory (and there wasn't any to start with).

In essence, I am saying, I cant make the recipe with a missing ingredient so I should not be able to "Make recipe" in the calculator either.

On the main recipe window the recipes (the dropdown list) will be displayed in red when there is not enough ingredients available to make the recipe and when the "Tools->Options", Ingredients defaults tab, "Display inventory amounts" is checked. Uncheck the option and see if the red that you are referring to goes away.

There is also another time when red will appear on the recipe window. The bar labeled "Notes/Results/Warnings" will turn red when there are messages in the "Warnings and Errors" display. Since that portion of the window can be minimized so that you can't see it, the red is your indicator to un-minimize it and view the warnings/errors.

I don't see anything in "red" when there isnt enough ingredients.
Here is an example of what we see in Windows 10 with sufficient ingredients:
    upload_2016-8-11_17-38-45.png

This is an example of a recipe with insufficient ingredients ( note: the three area circled with yellow highlighter all appear in red:
    upload_2016-8-11_17-44-56.png

Also when you open the drop-down of recipes; all recipes with insufficient ingredients appear in red as opposed to black. Sorry but I can't get a screen shot of that one; the drop-down keeps closing.

For me the easiest way to not get erroneous inventory adjustments is NOT to click the make recipe button UNTIL I have finished making the recipe. :D

Fanbloodytastic! this application is so cool. Sorry my bad then. I didn't go looking at the options, I will in future ;) I see the red messages and in the drop down too now.

The only thing then is "make recipe". IMO I still don't think this button should be enabled if there isn't enough inventory for it. At the very least, the "adjust inventory" should not "add back" an inventory item that was out of stock to start with.

Digressing: What is the "Folder Name" in the ingredients editor for? Are you meant to save each ingredient in its own folder? Maybe all the TFA in one folder, the OoO in another, etc? Maybe I should search the Forum in case its been asked before.

Again, thanks for this amazing software. I am a software developer and I fully appreciate that an awful lot of work has gone into this.

The folder name is used when the "Tools->Options", Ingredient defaults tab, "Display ingredients by category" is checked. By default (no folder value) all ingredients are in a root folder. When an ingredient has a folder value the ingredient will be displayed in that folder. The folders come in to place on the main recipe window, the ingredients dropdown list. The dropdown will show you your ingredients in the defined folder structure. You could put all of your TFA ingredients in a folder call TFA, FA ingredients in a folder called FA, etc... and then find them by that value in the recipes ingredient dropdown.

Note that a couple of users have had issues with this feature. Although it appeared to be something to do with their PC/Windows installation the problem could never be isolated. I could not replicate the problem to find what was causing it. Those users had to turn this feature off.

Trying your product... I clickd on Ingredient Editor and got the attached message. Couln't close the window, couldnt edit any of the fields, cant click on the little error icon, had to ctrl+alt+del to get out. Also no default flavors in flavor lists, have to enter details for every flavor myself?View attachment 588181
I do not recommend using the ingredient editor window as a new user (or even as an advanced user). Use the "Ingredients" button on the main window to edit your ingredients. The ingredient editor is better used as a way to view a list of your ingredients in a grid format.
This window was added to provide a way to see all ingredients and provide the ability to apply global changes. It performs edit checks on values entered but the user interface is not the best. On the image you provided you will notice a red exclamation point on a line. You should see the error by placing your mouse of the red area. The error must be corrected before closing (saving) the window.

There are several ways to enter your ingredients.
    - Enter them in the ingredients window.
    - Import recipes from some of the other calculators (Tools->Import...).
    - Use the "Tools->Import recipes and ingredients from start kit". This is a list of recipes and ingredients provided by another user. Note that I just discovered an issue with this window, the scrollbars are missing from the lists provided in the window. For now use the mouse wheel to scroll or the up/down errors. Will be fixed in my next version (this weekend)

Thanks Rod for this tip. I just had a play (on my Mac) with this. It works but is cumbersome. When you are entering ingredients into a recipe, the drop down is auto-filled with the first ingredient in your list of ingredients. This messes up the drop down list IMO. I have turned it off.

One other thing I noticed since your in the mix for an update ;) The Ingredients editor has a "alarm threshold" value but in the "current Inventory" tab I see both Threshold and Alarm values. Should these titles be the other way around since Threshold is the fixed alarm value and the Alarm value is the current threshold. Also note that some "Remove" buttons remain highlighted on the main recipe menu when Lock is used.

Version 7.0.1.7 is available. Changes include:

    1. Bug fix, the set recipe to max PG/VG wasn't always setting the correct level and the function would have to be invoked more than once if a recipe contained ingredients that had no PG or VG. Fixed.

    2. Add the ability to define hotkeys in most of the windows. Go to "Tools->Hot key options".

    3. Added the "Location" field to the ingredient editor window.

    4. Increased the width of the ingredient name dropdown list on the ingredient window.

Many thanks for your hard work and patience in making this brilliant Juice Calculator.

Would it be possible when "Add Ingredient" all ingredients are listed and not just the ones starting with the letters. So you would have of the scroll down the ones starting with the letters then further down the list others with those letters in them. It would make for easier finding of ingredients that are named back to front.
If this is already possible, please inform me as only just started using this.

    All the best

I recently added alot of flavors and decided to choose "Calculate weight based on PG/VG %". I have decided that I prefer to have flavors at 1 gram per ml instead (which I choose as default in options). Is there a way I can mass change all of my flavors back to the default of 1 gram per ml?

    Look in the editor

When you click the "Add ingredient" you can either start typing the ingredient name and it will give you a filtered list as you described or you can click the dropdown arrow and see the list of all lf your ingredients.

As jayv stated, click the "Edit->Ingredient editor". This will give you a grid of all of your ingredients. You can then enter the weight for all ingredients. You could also copy/paste in the window. Copy 1 cell with your new value of one and then select multiple cells to paste it into.
