So I got my OCD tank from IBTanked yesterday & set it up properly, & I love it so far! It's a great first carto tank & I got it because of all the good reviews. I can't upload a picture of my set up for some reason (oh well) but I just have a couple questions.

1. How do I know when my carto is dead? (never used a cartomizer before)
2. How do I take off the metal caps? They are on there pretty tight.

If I think of anymore questions I'll ask, thanks!

Edit: just realized I messed up the title of the post lol I'm sure everyone knows what I meant to say...

Excellent choice in tank selection. Of my 11 cartotanks, 7 are from IBT.

I will change a carto out when the flavor starts to become muted.

When you have an opportunity, I suggest that you take a look at Ikenvape cartos. They are the best cartos, which I have used. The IKV normally sellout within a few days of being in stock. Last month a 50 carto limit per item was imposed. Prior to that many of us had to wait for future shipments.

Yeah I really like my IBtank, I can tell it was made every well, worth the money for sure.

I think I'll figure out when my carto is dead lol

I just need to know how to take off the metal rings for when I need to clean it, I just don't want to mess up somehow & break anything! Especially the glass tube!
You don't necessarily need to remove the end caps to clean the tank. Just rinse under running water with the carto out. If necessary, you can also scrub the inside glass out with a Q-Tip through the end cap openings. Some people do wash with soap and water, but this isn't necessary most of the time unless the juice used was a strong flavor such as Pluid.

I've written several articles on cartotanks in my blog. Click the link under my avatar to find them.

I highly recommend that you use a tank accessory tool to protect your o-rings when exchanging cartos in the tank, or when you refill the tank with juice. If you ordered a complete tank setup from IBTanked, they included a combination tank tool/drip tip which can be used in this fashion. If not, I suggest the Slap Yo Moma tool from Big Daddy Vapor. Below is a demo of how to use these tools.

Yeah I got a drip tip that looks similar to the "slap yo mamma" too, I've also read a few of your blogs & they're very helpful!

One more question (for now)

Do you ever take off your drip tip & drip a few drops of liquid into the carto while it's still in your tank? I just did this because I removed the drip tip & my carto was kind of dry (I could see the white material inside). My tank is about 1/3 full so maybe I just need to keep more liquid in it?

Cartomizer Anatomy.jpg

The filler appearing to look dry after several vapes is completely normal. You need to understand how a a cartomizer works. Look at the above cutaway diagram of a carto in a tank.

As you vape, suction pulls juice from the top of the filler down toward the heating coil, where it becomes vaporized. Juice from the tank is also pulled into the carto from this suction, but never fully wicks the entire filler material.

As long as the filler surrounding the heating coil stays moist with e-liquid, you are good to go.

I don't normally top off my carto's unless I am refilling the entire tank. I don't see any problem doing this though if you feel this improves your vape.

I do top off my cartos with a couple of drops sometimes if they seem dry. Try adding a couple of drops and see if it makes a difference.

My IBTanks didn't come with pre-installed cartos, but I buy Smoktech pre-punched cartos from IBT, so there's a pretty good chance that's what you have.

ETA: I don't remove the caps when cleaning the tanks.

I topped it off earlier & when I inhaled it made "gurgly" sounds (I didn't get any in the center hole), but they went away. I'll try it again & post results

I'm not surprised. When you top it off you'll be flooding it a little. I always take my tanks off of the batteries when I'm topping off. I remove the drip tip, add a drop of two, and then wrap a paper towel around it (in case any juice leaks out) and shake it like a thermometer. A little juice coming out of the bottom is no big deal. You can gently blow it it out into a paper towel (from the top end) and/or I sometimes put a piece of rolled up paper towel up into the air tube from the connection end and lightly draw through the drip tip against the resistance. It will force the excess liquid into the towel.

I know this isn't really going to answer your questions, but there are some pictures that might be helpful:
