I have been lurking these forums for the past week. I have been trying to consume as much knowledge as possible before making my move, but there is a lot of it.
Past: I have been smoking for 10 years. I have been smoking ultra lights, outside of needing to bum one here and there. For most of the 10 years I have been averaging 8-10 cigarettes a day. Compared to most people I know, I am not a heavy smoker.
Currently: I got married a few months ago, and I know eventually a kid will come along. I do not want to wait till my wife is pregnant to try and rush quit, cause I have a feeling that will not work. Last week I stopped and got an e-cig at Walgreen's. It was just a disposable Blu brand e-cig. I bought it before I really started reading here, cause I wanted to make sure it was something even worth pursuing. To my surprise, it has actually helped quite a bit. Since last Monday, I have smoked exactly 5 cigarettes a day. That is pretty much half of what I have been smoking, and I don't feel the need to have a cigarette when I just puff on the e-cig for a minute or two.
Future: Ideally I would like to completely get off cigarettes. I know it won't come easy, but after testing the e-cig, I think it is definitely going to be more effective than patches or pills. Especially since I mostly smoke cause of oral fixation as opposed to nicotine. What I had come up with after reading was that the Volt kits seem to be pretty popular. It also seems to be reasonably priced. The issue I had with the Blu e-cig was that I could only really feel the vapor when I exhaled through my nose. While the e-cig did it's job, as far as I am concerned, I think it can be better. I was hoping for something a little thicker. Will the volt give me that?
I am certainly open to ideas. I don't really think I need to get too fancy. The disposable one worked, I just think it would be more expensive, and a waste to keep buying those.
