This is a little embarassing: I'm used to answering questions, not asking them. But it's a technical issue and I've never pretended to have technical expertise. [I did learn Ohm's Law here on ECF!:D]

I received a new DSE905 V3 yesterday afternoon and charged one of the included 14500 batts overnight. I can't get it to work. When I insert the battery and twist it back together, the light flashes a couple times; I expected that.

But when I press the manual switch, it flashes several times, then nothing: no light, no vape. I charged up the other battery and the same thing.

You should know that I cheated yesterday evening and tried it out with a partially charged battery. Ironically, it worked: with the included 901 atty, with my Joye302 atty (and adapter), and with a Joye 510 atty (and adapter). There was some inconsistency, but I was vaping with it.
  • Is it the batteries? Did I screw them up by not charging them fully prior to using them for a few minutes? Or are these included D.K.L. ICR14500 batts (apparently unprotected) flaky?
  • Is it the device? Did I get a lemon?
  • Or am I doing something wrong? [NOTE: I am aligning + and - correctly; I'm not that clueless.;)]
I am very unhappy. I've been without a mod for 3 months now. I was really looking forward to this.

Any insights will be deeply appreciated!

I got a couple of new and improved ones, not sure if V3 or not, but had the "IMPROVED" insulation inside and the "CAN'T STICK THE BATTERY IN BACKWARDS MOD"

The case is a little short for 14500 batteries that are a little long and the button tops got dented and would not work reliably. One type of button top would dent, the other would not. see attached.

And this might help 905 users.
My wife is the hardest on e-cigs as anyone I have ever seen.
The soft vape button on the 905 is susceptible to being "side swiped" right out of the unit, bouncing around on the floor and under the fridge, to be eaten by the dust bunnies.

It sticks up way too far and has edges that make it easy to thumb off the side.
Trim the edges just a little to round them off.

I had this problem, but it eventually changed to "gotta push the button as hard as heck" to get things going. I returned it for a refund. I had a V2 before it.
That button bugged the crap out of me.

If memory serves correct, the flashing light on the 905 after assembly is either dead battery or cutoff. You may have gotten a dud, could be the battery. Dunno. I'm no PV genius, but I think if you can't get it to work, nobody can ;)Hope yours turns out alright Don.

Thanks guys! FYI: Problem continues. I'm still waiting to hear back from the supplier.

I really wish I could help you, Sir. You have really helped me. I stalk your posts.
Thank you
Thank you for the acknowledgement, 8Truck (if you don't mind my using this invented nickname;))! As long as you don't stalk me in person, I have no problem with your post stalking.:) However, I do request that you cease and desist this "Sir" business. If you must address me formally, please use my correct title: First Vape (as in "Don, First Vape of DaBoom").:D

Thanks, Rocket! Mine hasn't caused the denting shown in your photo.

I appreciate the insights from your experience, TJ! I do think that you misperceive my area of expertise. It is not technical. I like to think of myself as a vaping encyclopediaist, i.e., I know a little bit about a lot of things e-cig, aka 'dilettante.'

Dear Mr. First Vape;
Oh darn, hope the supplier will come through for you.
I have a particular party in my household that as sweet and lovely and kind (and internet savy) as she is, she is a klutz. And would occasionally, by complete accidental oversight, just lightly sit on the 905 in her back pocket and break it. She used to do this with 901s also, the dear lovely, wonderful and caring (checks out the e-cig forum also) klutz.
I found that I could get replacement Nose pieces for the 905 and toss a couple in my normal overseas orders and have spare on-hand so the 'Swamp Lady' wouldn't Blow A Cork, just kidding dear.
Spare Parts never hurt, you know.

I just noticed that the light stays steady when I press the the button without any atty connected, but when I connect any atty (901, 801, or 510) it flashes and no power is delivered to the atty.

Does that confirm your theory, THICKFOG?

BTW, the supplier is sending me a replacement unit. He says that he's been having lots of problems with these (~20% failure rate) and will no longer be carrying them. He just will continue to support his customers (he is one of the good, responsible suppliers).*

* Awesome Vapor; I held off mentioning the name, because I didn't want to give him a bum rap. But he (Arno the proprietor) obviously is not to blame.

I'll report back here when I get the replacement.

Oh ... I went ahead and ordered some name brand protected batteries (Trustfire) and a Trustfire universal charger. Not that Trustfire is as good as AW or Tenergy, but at least I've heard of it, rather than D.K.L., and they are protected.

Glad to hear you are getting a replacement. I use the Trustfires in my 905 and like them better than the stock batteries. They seem to hold higher voltage before dropping off a little better and last just as long if not longer than the stock unprotected batteries. They are also a little longer and larger diameter than the stock ones.

That's good to hear, Gary! As for holding higher voltage longer, I thought I read something about the 905 having a regulator harnessing the voltage to a max 3.7. Correct?

I have a 905 from Arno and have had to have it replaced once. The second unit however i have had no problems with..
And BTW ARNO ROCKS..
That gives me hope, gatherman! Maybe between the new batts and the new 905, I'll be vaping with it. I agree with you about Arno, but didn't want to speak too glowingly, since I've been doing some work for him (an online guide and a printed manual).

Actually I'm not sure if they really do have a regulator as you can mod it to use 2 cr123 batteries and use it at 6V, it just seems like the trustfire batts deliver 3.7V longer than the stocks before dropping off. Now I'm going to have to do a test to be sure I'm not just imagining this. Anyway I'm sure you will be happy with this setup. I use a 901 to 510 adaptor with mine as I prefer the 510 atty.
