New Dual Coil Tanks from SmokTech

Hi,

I've received 2 DCTs today.
The DCT is indeed a very nice tank system - at unpacking you already feel you get good value for your money.

Filling it up is as easy as the filling instruction above suggests.
I filled up the first tank and let it rest while I went out for some shopping. I returned 5 hrs later and thought that this must be enough time for the liquid to make it through the hole to the coils. I was proven wrong and one out of two cartomizers is a bit charred now. It's still working, but it's sitting in some ethanol to recover from this burning experience ;)

Good thing I bought two ... Filled the 2nd tank with this experience.

It is VERY important to drip some liquid into the regular filling hole (I used 0.5ml)
Filling up the tank alone is not enough - the hole that's punched into the cartomizer is way too small for this to work. So there's capillary action, negative pressure or whatever going on that makes the fluid go from the tank into the cartomizer.
When you fill the cartomizer, the DCT is doing a very nice job: great vape, great taste, easy to use.

On one of the German forums someone else didn't see any bubbles, emptied the tank again and increased the size of the hole and punched in a second one. He's saying the DCT works great now. I was about to do the same thing, but as it's working for me with the small hole for the moment, I'll leave it like it is for now. Decide for yourself whether you want to do some punching or not.

All in all the DCT is definitely a product worth buying. Actually I recommend buying 2 or 3 given they're very inexpensive.

I expect these any day now (they have been shipped to me), so I haven't messed with them.
But I can say I would have to agree to "pre-fill" the empty carto. I can't imagine filling up the tank with a dry carto would work.
I personally do not plan to add a hole as this seems it would flood the carto, BUT, I haven't messed with them yet.

Hey Rick, yes you want to fill carto too! You can drip fill it like a regular carto or use a syringe. If it is a regular size carto it would take about .7 to .9 mls, if it is an xl it would take from 1.5 to 1.8 mls. As you vape it replenishes the wicking from the tank. They work great, just a little messy filling the tank sometimes!

I have to point out that filling the carto is only necessary when you first fill it.
For all subsequent fillings its strictly optional. I chose to only fill the tank and I must say it works just great. The cartos are nice and there is no leaking going on and unlike woody55 filling has not been messy for me at all.

In case you're using a VG-dominated base with few or no PG you may have to make that hole bigger. Especially as its getting colder VG may be too thick to get through the tiny hole (.8 mm). On one of the German forums we discussed this with smoktech and they said they'll evaluate pro's and con's of shipping with a bigger hole size. I don't think it's necessary.
With "regular" fluids (P60/V40/W10) the flow's just great. No burned taste whatsoever and I've been using the DCT for 5 days now.

Just got mine and it works amazing! I have a liquinator as well with which I use the LR boge cartos at 6v and it is great too but doesn't compare to the dual coils. ALSO, Rick's tank is MUCH cheaper!! I'm not sure what is different about these dual coil cartos but I have purchased smoketech dual coils in the past and they were horrible. Either way I'm happy. My only concern is whether the small little hole is filling the carto back up properly. The liquinator has too big slots drimmeled in and I still find myself having to suck juice into it to keep the carto wet. I am testing the dual coil tank by marking the juice level and checking it every few minutes as I vape so if there is a problem I'll let yall know.

Rick, do you have any problems with the cartos burning out because the carto isn't staying wet???

Nope, absolutely none. AND I'm using it at 6 volts.
I did use a syringe to get the material good and wet before first use, but after that all is fine.
I image juice has a lot to do with that. My juice works just fine, best juice around anyway :)
It is 75/25% PG/VG.
I imagine pure VG may be to thick, but I'm not having any problems.

This is actually the first set up I haven't changed after the first day of using it.
All else, clearomizers, certain atties, cartos, etc always worked great at first, but then I found myself wanting to try something else after a day or 2. Not this time, looks like I'm sticking with this set up for a while.

I purchased one of these tanks a week ago and enlarged the hole, punched with a nail, no leak/no problems. I had been using a syringe tanks with one hole in the carto and it worked great so I did the same with this tank. Juice used is honey flue.

I purchased another carto tank and in my hurry to get it filled I forgot about enlarging the hole. I could see the tiny hole already in it but decided to leave it just like it came. I have used it exclusively since yesterday afternoon and all day today. No problems with it going dry, I would however insist on filling the carto before filling the tank and using it the first time. Juice used is RY4.

I don't see why this tank wouldn't fit a different carto as long as the diameter and length is the same, other than sliding down if I am not careful. I will be trying a different carto once these fail on me.

For the price ya can't beat it.

I found the same thing as Rick, no drying out (but pre-fill it!) and I've also run it at 6v. My juice is 80/20 for the most part.

Oddly, I have some regular cartos I punch for a different tank, and those go dry quite a bit even though the hole is much larger. Not quite sure what's up with that.

I plan on doing a review of these tanks soon.
