Hello,

I am 33 and have been smoking on and off since I was about 18. For the last 3 or 4 years I have been smoking 3-5 black n mild (mini-cigars) per day. They are anywhere from $1-$2.00 each at any gas station. I switched to vaping about a month or two ago and have never looked back. I feel healthier, more energized, never cough or hack anymore (to my fiancees delight) and not to mention saving money like crazy!

I just purchased an "eGo v2 Passthrough Express Kit" from iVape.net. (http://ivape.net/index.php/iVape-eGo-v2-Passthrough-Express-Kit-Red.html) I am very satisfied thus far with my order. One thing I am having a bit of trouble with, however, is knowing which cartomizers/clearomizers/coils are compatible with my unit. I am not sure if ALL cartomizers are compatible with my unit, or only certain ones. In the product description (which I wish was much more descriptive), it states that it features "h2 bottom coil clearomizer (uses evod coils)", Does this indicate that I can only use "evod" coils?

I am not on a super-tight budget, but at the same time I'd like to get the most bang for my buck. If anyone could recommend a good source and/or place to purchase compatible clearomizers, I would greatly appreciate that. And perhaps a brief explanation or crash course in eCig compatibility, I'd appreciate that as well.

Lastly, how long are cartomizers supposed to last? How often should they be changed out? I noticed some wicks are much longer than others. Upon first glance, I thought there was something wrong with mine as they are two little "stubs". Later I realized this is how they are supposed to look. LOL.

Anyway, look forward to reading the wealth of information here, and thanks in advance for any answers!

Hi and welcome to ECF. Your eGo will accept both 510 and eGo threaded accessories. These threadings are the most popular. Your PV will NOT accept 808 threaded accessories.

Cartomizer/ Carto - metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. Should last anywhere from 2-4 weeks.

Clearomizer - a plastic, glass or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs.

You can use anything with 510 or Ego threading, down to roughly a 1.6 ohm coil on an Ego battery. The H2 bottom coil clearo is simply what came with it.

Compatibility comes down to two major factors. 1) Threading, in 95% of the time it's 510. 2) Ohms...devices have an amperage limit based on the battery/circuitry that will prevent you from using coils at a certain ohms. Whether that be through the devices safety features, or your own knowledge of what ohms are safe at what amperage (tons of literature on this stuff: sub-ohm vaping, battery amperage safety, etc etc).

Cartomizers can last anywhere from a few days to a month or so, depending on how you maintain the wick and coil. Eventually the wicks will become charred too much, and the coils will be too gunked up with burnt juice, and they will begin to taste badly/not fire. Through time and trial/error, you'll learn when to clean them, when to replace them, etc.

Congrats on the switch!

Thanks for the quick response & info, Vapoor.

Therefore, any cartomizers listed on this page http://ivape.net/index.php/Cartomizers/eGo.html would be compatible with my PV? (I particularly Like the "Stardust" line)
(besides the few toward the top that are to be used with cCigs)?

You're welcome. Yes as they are all 510 threaded. When buying clearomizers (not cartomizers) realize some come in a larger size for the larger Mods. For example if buying the ProTank II you would want the "Mini" 1.6 ml size- looks best on the eGo PV.
Stardust also known as CE4 (non rebuildable) were the first clearomizer introduced over a yr ago. CE5 is rebuildable meaning you can replace the head (wick+ coil)- very easy and very economical. If buying the Stardust make sure it has long wicks- short wicks had wicking issues and were discontinued.

I've got one of the Ego C upgrades for my out-and-about rig and I've put a Kanger Mini Protank II on it and It really vapes nice. The Minis have glass tanks that I really prefer. I've got a boatload of the plastic clearos and after getting the glass tanks, I really don't care for the vape from the plastic ones anymore. If you get one, be sure and get some extra heads (coils) for it. You can clean, dryburn and replace the flavor wicks in the heads and they will last you for quite a while.

Youre referring to the little coil piece at the bottom of the cartomizer to be swapped out with ease, right?

Thanks again for the help, and sorry for the simpleton questions! =)

Please no apologies. Yes there's a head (coil+ wick) that unscrews from the clearomizer. They can even be removed and washed and dry burned- washing cleans the wicks and dry burning removes the "juice gunk" on the coil. My heads last about 10 weeks and still fire great but the wicks begin to degrade.
In the realm of clearomizers there are 2 types- bottom coil and top coil (coils are either at top of clearo or bottom) Bottom gives a cooler vape while top coil give a warmer vape. Stardust is a top coil. Just to show you how easy it is to change a head. Realize also there are sooo many diff clearos out there it's absolutely mind boggling

Hi Panzerfaust (like the name!) and welcome to ECF!

Congrats on the switchover!

There is already a lot of very good information in this thread, so I will not repeat what has already been said.

What I will add is that maintenance of your system is critical to good performance and extended life. I recommend that whatever clearomizer, cartomizer, tank you select, you should clean the threads at the base of it AND the threads inside the connecter EVERY time you fill the tank, more often if juice leaks into it (which shouldn't happen, but occasionally does).

My experience with bottom coil systems (like the EVOD) is that the coil needs to be replaced or cleaned every 2-3 weeks, but that completely depends on your juice, vaping habits, and usage. I suggest keeping a box of spare coils on hand, just in case. I (like others) have found the flavor from Protanks (glass) vs. EVODs (plastic) is substantially better, but not everyone agrees, so you will need to experiment and figure out what works best for you. I also had a LOT of problems with EVODs leaking, but many folks have not, again, this will depend a lot on the juice.

As always ... YMMV ... HTH!

Sorry, but could someone tell me the precise gear I am using?

I look on the iVape site and it says "eGo V2". However when I google that I see only "eGo 2 V2"'s, and no images of my product. Id like to know the exact make and model as to better search for mods and accessories for my setup. Thanks!

Btw, here is link to my PV: iVape eGo v2 - Passthrough Express Kit - Red | Express kits | Starter Kits | iVAPE
