You're right, not just about your child, but most others too. You have to 'hook' them (really grab their interest) in a subject and then provide them with a variety of ways to work with the material. Just like anything else, the more you work with something that interests you, the deeper your understanding of that 'something'.
sorry count. what i had said there wasnt that well thought out to convay what i was thinking at the time. i totally agree with you. my statement really was geared with the assumption of intelligent and involved parrents like those of use here (which unfortunately i believe are prolly becomming the minority these days) and was intended to apply to the teachers that dont share your ideals and are there because thats just their job or chosen career path. sounds like your one heck of a teacher and i wish i could send my kid to your class because some teachers of your caliber would be able to get my kid to better realize his full potential. he is super smart when you can get him to focus in on what he is supposed to be learning rather then fidgeting and screwing around - something dw and i seem to have a hard time getting him to do lately largely in part i think to the class environment he is in now. his other teachers did such a better job and he made amazing progress where now it almost seems like he is going backwards in some areas. we even agreed to have him start going to a special reading class with a different teacher for part of the day because hes now struggling with it quite a bit more than he used to at the beginning of this class year. and some of the reading i have been having to help him with now is stuff he was able to figure out on his own then...
but also i try to remind myself he is only 7 and has a long way to go and hopefully his future teachers will do better
