My daughter recently learned how to sew and went about hemming all her jeans since they're always a little too long. She was quite proud of the job she did and she did them well. Later, we were talking about getting her some more sewing supplies and I asked if she needed a thimble. She looked at me blankly. I explained that it's so you can push the needle through thick fabrics like denim without hurting your fingers. Her jaw dropped. :D Poor girl.

PS and wow you are TALENTED to be able to DO that..* PS i sew by hand only sheesh..I am bad..*

ya know...growing up, my mom wanted to teach me, and I had absolutely NO interest in it. It wasn't till about 7 or 8 years ago (or so) that I, out of the blue, taught myself :D I now have more fabric than I'll ever be able to use and my mom hasn't so much as sewn on a button since :lol:

Sewing by hand, imo, can be more difficult. I have an aunt that quilts....and I'm talkin big bed quilts....all by hand! I don't know how she does it  I don't have the patience for that kinda work. It's beautiful, but VERY time consuming!

If she keeps the interest, she will come to find that there are MANY things that still need some hand sewing. I think it's WONDERFUL that your daughter has an interest in it. Sadly, it's one skill that has been lost to this generation.
