Oh wow Keela********* oh wow use that talent girl...........good for you teaching yourself....* I would..wow...I am envious of real pros like you ..wow* it IS hard to do it by hand..............*

ya know...growing up, my mom wanted to teach me, and I had absolutely NO interest in it. It wasn't till about 7 or 8 years ago (or so) that I, out of the blue, taught myself :D I now have more fabric than I'll ever be able to use and my mom hasn't so much as sewn on a button since :lol::lol:

Sewing by hand, imo, can be more difficult. I have an aunt that quilts....and I'm talkin big bed quilts....all by hand! I don't know how she does it :laugh: I don't have the patience for that kinda work. It's beautiful, but VERY time consuming!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

If she keeps the interest, she will come to find that there are MANY things that still need some hand sewing. I think it's WONDERFUL that your daughter has an interest in it. Sadly, it's one skill that has been lost to this generation.

My mother made sure I had basic sewing skills before I got out on my own. Can't do anything fancy but she taught me how to reattach a button, fix a seam that's coming apart and things like that. Also made sure I could cook.

Hi y'all - Pri, Keela, Ccat,

Mind if I jump in? I learned about sewing from my grandmother. I use a needle and thread, and have a sewing machine. The skills come in great for all kinds of things, and the knowledge comes into play for other things as well.

I lurves my sewing machine! I have a serger that I have yet to mess around with :blush: Something else on my to do list, I guess :laugh:

Too many people teach their daughters stuff like that but not their sons. I never got that. There's going to be a time where he has to take care of himself, so he might as well know how to cook rather than depend on boxed foods and take-out. Plus, what better way to impress a girl than to cook for her?!?

I have no need for a Serger, but I use mine Sewing Machine for all kinds of stuff. I was catching wild, ferel cats that were getting away bc I was afraid of them, so I bought two sets of Welding Gloves, cut the hands off of one set, and sewed in on to the other set, to make heavy-duty gloves that go all the way up my arm. They work great, too. Have lasted years!!! Went a needle though, and ran the thing by hand, to keep from burning out the motor, but I got the job done.

Oh yes, Pri. My grandmother was so special. You would have loved her. I lost her back in 1968, but I was her favorite, and Oh, did I love her. I actually picked up sewing, just being around her, watching her. She made custom stuff for people, but she did show me some stuff, too.

I was around my grandmother a lot. She raised me for a few years while my older brother was sick, and cried when she had to give me back. I cried too, at 5-years old. But I learned a lot from her, then, and through the years.

Oh lucky you, Ccat. My Grandmother was relatively young. My Grandfather lived to be 84. Cherish her, and spend all the time you can with her. I hope she is a Well, Alert, and Active 87.

I never knew my Father's parents. Met his father briefly one Christmas, but wouldn't have remebered if I hadn't seen pictures of his visit that year. His parents were from the New Jersey area. We lived in Montgomery, Ala, where I was born. But when my Dad passed, I was given the Christmas House that his Dad built, which is a model of the house he (his Dad) was born in.

Did I already play round 7 I can't remember

Hi Mogi,

I've taken to writing my picks on paper, with the round #, to keep from having to look back, and/or remember. My Braininator doesn't always work. Hopefully Keela or Yiddle can easily check for you.
