new guy, few questions

Hi everyone!

I've smoked for around 10 years now and am looking try vaping to quit. I haven't actually vaped yet, but I did some resarch here and finally pulled the trigger on a joye eGo kit that should be here mon/tues

what was confusing to me is all the variances of kits from all the different merchants.

My kit says it comes with 2 joye 510 atomizers, are these different from the eGo atomizers I've seen in different kits? I know the 510 stuff is compatible with eGos, but is there a power/size difference?

also my kit makes no mention of a "fast usb" charger, in addition to a normal charger. it says it has usb/wall charger. Is this the same thing?

I'm sure I got a good deal, the total with sample and shipping came to 50 bucks, I'm just wondering if theres some stuff I should've gotten that didn't come with the kit.

hey thanks for your time and info

cheers!

joye is who makes the ego
they are what most people buy when it comes to atomizers because their "said" to be built better/have better quality control, than the rest
i used 3 crap brand attys for over 95 days till i personally killed them while not using them. i boiled them in vinegar/water walked away came back and they were filled with black ash. last time i ever boiled or used vinegar.

usb wall charger is the 120v (wall outlet) to usb. if it has that i would guess it has a usb nub charger because you would either have that to use it or the new ego passthrough battery.

The 510 atomizers are compatible with eGo/Riva/Tornado/Hello, etc..

The 510 atomizers will work fine. Some people purchase "low resistance" or "LR" atomizers to simulate 5 volt vaping with a 3.7/3.2v battery.

Generally fast USB is a charger with a wall part, and the USB plugs into it. Like you may have seen with USB car charger adapters.

It is a great place to start. Here is my question: Did you get any other e-juice?

they are what most people buy when it comes to atomizers because their "said" to be built better/have better quality control, than the rest

Only comparison I've heard said lately to that effect is with the Cisco LR 306 vs the Joye 306. I've yet to have either die out or fade, so I can't comment on that at this time. Outside of that, going with a generic is no different than buying anything else generic. Some are great, others are poor knock offs. Depends on the manufacturer.

Okay it is lightly more than this but here is the way I break it down for new members who get overwhelmed/confused by the models:

The threads on the battery are 510. Joye 510, Riva, Tornado, eGo... they are all 510.

Example: The LR 306 atomizers can fit an eGo (510) because they have the same threading. (There is more to this, such as don't use a LR 306 atty on a battery over 3.7volts. Make sure if you do it is with a battery over 450mAh because it'll fry the atty over 3.7v, or the battery under 450mAh won't last too long. So unless you bought a LR306, it is too far in depth and right now, isn't relevant to your situation. :) )

The numbers identify the threading and the model(s) they are commonly used with.

Example: You can't fit Hummer tires on a Camry. You can't use a 901 atomizer on a 510 battery. (At least not without an adapter.)

There are exceptions, again example: You can use a 901 atomizer on a KR808 battery, but you can't use KR808 carts on a 901 battery.

The numbers just let people know which design and threading is or is not compatible.

You should be happy with your purchase. Once you get it and like it I would say place another juice order asap. Those sample sizes go pretty quick when you start "playing with a new toy". Remember you have to allow for having at least a week worth of supplies on hand at any given time even if you are good about keeping up with orders to allow for shipping. As soon as I found a flavor I liked I got 60ml ordered just so I would always have something to vape on. Still looking at various samplers to see what I might like better. If you really want to kick the old stogies to the curb though......DONT RUN OUT OF SUPPLIES.

Welcome, and happy vaping.

Welcome to vaping and to ECF! You chose wisely with your first e-cig purchase. The eGO probably is the most popular model right now (with models that are similar to it in second and third place).

You have the mixed blessing of starting vaping now than when I did eighteen months ago. "In my day" the choices were more limited: so simpler, but not as good. One of the best models available was the Joye 510: great atomizer (continued to be used in the eGO), but a battery with only 180 mAh (compared to the 650 mAh of your eGO). Required frequent battery recharging.

The typical atomizer sold with the eGO kit is the Joye 510 (or, perhaps, a 510 from a different manufacturer). The mega eGO atomizer and cartridge has a much larger e-liquid capacity, but its performance is similar. Other choices you'll have are:

  • Drip tips for easily dripping e-liquid directly on the atomizer bridge, rather than using cartridges.
  • Cartomizers (i.e., integrated cartridge and atomizer). Many of us feel that cartos more effectively deliver e-liquid to the atomizer contained therein than the separate cartridges. And the 510 carto holds more liquid than the 510 cartridge. [The same cannot be said about the mega eGO cartos vs. carts.]
  • "LR" (low resistance) atomizers deliver a more intense vaping experience: more vapor and TH (not necessarily better flavor).
  • The 306 atomizer, especially the LR 306, is fully compatible with the 510 and eGO but the vape has a different feel. I happen to prefer it. The "Cisco" LR version is reputed to the best. [Since it is the only one I've used, I can't really comment.]
Almost certainly your charger will be the "fast charger" designed for the eGO. It has a USB connection (for plugging into the computer) but also comes with a wall adapter.

Enjoy the adventure!

thank you everyone. I think its all clear now, whew! I'm really exited about all the experimenting I get to do. I should get another juice order in soon. I wanted to wait and see which nicotine level I'm at before buying any 30ml. I pack usually lasts me a little over a day so I dont think I'll need the 24mg, I think I got 12, 18, and 6mg coming to me.

I hope I like tobacco flavor, but I'm worried it may have a taste I dont like. I don't think I would like caramel, vanilla, cream, maple or anything too sweet like those. fruit stuff sounds okay-I've smoked hookah before.

The herbal flavors have me really interested. I love tea, so rose, jasmine, zengarden, and tea all sound really good. I wanted to try the lungjuice stuff from nhaler too.

I got empty cartomizers with my kit, and I got a drip tip as well. I think I'll be trying a cisco LR asap. I also want to get a 510 battery for times where cigarette sized is appropriate. There are adapters as well for the 901s, and KR808s right? and they have mega batteries/atomizers too! this is going to be fun

You will need a 306 drip tip if you buy a Cisco LR. There is a design difference. The 510 drip tip sits on a 510 atomizer. Where the 306 atty is exposed (no sidewalls) so a 306 drip tip slides over the exposed atomizer. :)

Tobacco... never expect it to be the same. Just try to get as close as possible. As you become comfortable, then your tastes may change to the sweeter vapes. Especially after you get your sense of smell back. :)

So far I've found things I didn't expect about flavors.......never really smoked menthol cigs unless I was sick or had a scratchy throat.......menthol is now a go-to juice. And not big on sweet stuff but after hearing "RY4" so many times decided to try it (caramel/toffee ish)........simply superb in the evening or with a cup of coffee. As far as flavors you might want to try, think with your nose, not your taste buds. To me the vaping experience as equated to flavor is much more in tune to sense of smell than taste. Just my .02.

You will need a 306 drip tip if you buy a Cisco LR
thanks, I thought that would be the case. I got a drip tip with my juice order just because they were cheap and looked different from others (white w/black spots), but I think I'll need a metal one soon anyway, especially with the heat issues.

I dont really like how the ego is shaped, but I think you can make it straight with certain atomizers/batteries/tips yes?

Especially after you get your sense of smell back
man! does that sound good!

menthol is now a go-to juice
the question I have with menthol is this. Isn't menthol bad for your lungs? I may be totally off about that, but if it is bad, wouldn't it be better to just use a peppermint or eucalyptus juice for this?

think with your nose, not your taste buds.
thank you. that is good advise. the problems I have with those flavors are smell oriented. maple syrup makes me sick, I hate the smell of kettle/caramel corn, but I can usually eat it (I like cracker jack)
