gurus,
I am new to this forum and have been researching about e-cig for a while. Now I've come to a stage where I would like to give it a try. based on the research I found that JOYE eGo 510 is the one to go for me. In the starter kit I'll get

  • 2 x manual eGo 650mAh batteries
  • 2 x Joye 510 atomizer
  • 2 x Atomizer Cone
  • 5 x tobacco cartridges
  • 1 x high speed USB charger
  • 1 x usb mains charger
  • 1 x user manual
  • 1 x presenation box
I've heard about e-liquids. Do I need to buy these to vape? Or can I just start with one of the cartridges that came with the starter kit? I've also come to know that once the carts are done I need to refill the cart with one of the liquids. What is Atomizer cone?

The cone is just a cover for the atomizer, more or less. It helps the appearance, and with "heating" the vapor.

Yes, you'll need juice. You've got a good kit picked out, now don't hesitate to go buy juice at Backwoods Brew - and try a juice or two that sounds funky, like the strawberry or peach or whatever catches your eye. Most of us started at about 24mg nicotine, by the way.

Oh, and you can refill the carts, or you can remove the filling and just drip a couple of drops of juice right onto the atty. (This will make sense later. LOL)

Good luck, and welcome!!

ETA: If you're getting the ad for the inferno below, it looks like a great kit and a good price as well. It's an eGo type battery, but purrrty. I did just notice, it doesn't come with any juice/carts, so that'd be something to keep in mind.

You've made a good choice for a PV
yes you'll need juices, try sampler packs from different vendors
vary the pg/vg and nic levels to find what you like
save the ones you don't like this week as your tastes will change
you may want to try the ego mega atty & carts, I love them
welcome to Ecf, watch the videos for broke newbies in the stickies

it does come with 5 prefilled cartridges, though most do not like the flavor. When i got mine, they tasted flavorless. So, i just took out the sponge like material with a tooth pick, rinsed it under the sink, dried it, reinserted it, and filled it with what i liked.

I would highly advise ordering some fluids with your starter kit. Youll probably be inclined to purchase tobacco flavors. I think most wrre like that, but i would urge you to select some other flavors as well. Some off the wall flavors like strawberry, coconut, caramel, and so on. You wont be dissapointed, and most find they prefer the flavors over tobacco!

As for the cone. The cone isnt necisary to use. It is just a cover that slides over the atomizer and screws onto the battery. As for function, it makes it a little harder to draw off the unit. With the cone on, i liken this effect to a well packed analog. It also protects you from any leakage from your cart, in your growing pains youll be over filling your cart often. It will leak a bit, and with the cone youll find that the excess juice wont get on your hands/in your pocket. Itll stay in the cone instead. Also, as your atomizer heats up, itll keep you from touching it. It also helps to relieve any stress concentrations (harder to snap off the atty by accident).

I like my cone. But you dont need to use it. Some prefer not to.

BTW, nice choice on the starter kit. It will provide you with enough materials to assemble two e-cigs. I found myself ordering two more batteries/cones in differant colors of the same unit. LOL now they match my shirts!

dear shanagan,
Thanks for your prompt response. In the starter kit, they've mentioned about 5 x tobacco cartridges. Doesn't these include nicotine? Why exactly we need liquid? Is it for the flavor or for the actual nicotine? I usually smoke 5-6 cigs per day. What do you suggest for me to begin with? I am I good with 24mg nicotine? I just found that this kit is unavailable at liberty-flights.com. Could you suggest more sites for purchasing?

The carts do contain nicotine, but only last so long, and as someone else mentioned, they generally don't seem to be very enjoyable.

OK, you're going to go lower on nicotine, for sure - if I were you, I'd go here: Volcano Fine Electronic Cigarette Mini Starter Kit - it's exactly where I'd start if I were doing it all over again. Then I'd go to backwoodsbrew.net to get some 12 or 18mg juice. Essentially, the deal is that the juice is both nicotine and flavor suspended in one liquid. And they don't have to taste like cigarettes (in fact, very few do - no burning stuff, after all) they just need to taste good. Because if they taste good, you're going to be more likely to use them.

The more I think about it, though, I wonder if the inferno isn't overkill since you're a light smoker.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe a standard 510 from cignot?

Hello,
Each cartridge won't last for long. The liquid is used to refill those cartridges (with the flavor of your choosing) after you have cleaned them ofcourse. Or you can skip the cartridges alltogether and go dripping (=a technique where you pur a few drops of liquid directrly onto the atomizer). Some people (including me) like the vaping experience from dripping much better than cartridges ...
Moving on the nicotine amount you need on your liquid depends upon a lot of factors. Most important thing to remember is not to despair if you don't get the feeling you had with analogs and don't be afraid to experiment till you find your personal sweet spot.

Lastly two "newbie tips" that I found help people who just started:
1. adjust the way you "smoke": vaping is not smoking ... if you go short and powerfull drops you will be disappointed; instead try vaping like drinking a soda from a straw (same amount of length and force)
2. (since you go with an ego model): if you spend many hours near a computer or other usb outlets then get a passthrough battery ... this will help with power outages (during the first days you will find the urge to chain vape a lot)

If you really want Joye ego, google Joye Ego .. got many many hits. Not sure if there's a color you prefer so you can check it out on the search results. Most suppliers carry black, stainless steel and titanium. You can also email LF if you want from them and see when they'll restock.

You have a couple choices how to vape with the Ego
- atty + cart
- atty + drip tip
- carto
You will need liquid to use it.

Shane,

The 5 or 10 cartridges that may come with your kit are not prefilled (mine weren't) so you will need liquid to fill them with. It is very easy to do. The e-liquid is nicotine and flavoring. There are some prefilled ones from various places, but honestly, they don't taste as good as if you use liquid of your choice, and they also do not last very long. You need liquids (IMHO), it makes the vaping experience so much better! (I've had 2 different kits with prefilled carts and....yuk!)

My recommendation is a drip tip and an eGo kit from Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. and some 5ml size bottles of juice in 12 and 18 mg juices from FreedomSmokeUSA . Order a few different flavors don't just get tobacco flavors, try some cappuccino smooth, french toast or things like that. I found sweet flavors made it easier to get away from the cigs because frankly a regular cig tasted awful after vaping a yummy flavor.

The best price for this kit is at litecitusa.net for $54.95 plus $2 shipping from PA.

I wouldn't order anything from Volcano. I've been waiting for two replacement passthroughs for almost a month from Volcano (all three that I bought became defective within two weeks). Also, the Volcano starter kit I bought in mid-September was pure junk and after 10 days, the battery needed to be recharged after 10 minutes. If their other products are such junk, what can you expect from their latest eGo-generic? It's way overpriced for a generic, too. I'd just stay away from Volcano. Customer service isn't the best. I've emailed them twice about why they haven't sent me the two PT replacements yet, with no responses yet. They did send one replacement, but I returned all three about a month ago...
