Hi everyone! I am a new guy hearing all the hype about e-cigs. I have been smoking in some form since I was 16, I am now 26. I have quit a few times here and there but never stuck with it. Basically, I LOVE smoking! lol! I used to smoke a pack of Camel Lights every day or two. I would say I averaged 12 to 15 smokes per day. I quit the cigs a few months ago and have been smoking black and milds instead. I do inhale the blacks. Its pretty stupid and can be downright painful at times.

Anyhow, I am from Des Moines, Iowa. I know we have a store near here that sells the e-cig stuff but Im sure they are overpriced compared to online.

What do I need to buy to get going? I would like to get something that looks like a cig for now. I have also read that parts will break so maybe I need a spare vaping device also? I also would be down to refill my cartridges. I like many different flavors and would like to be able to "feel" the vape in my throat. I would like to do this fairly cheaply though also. So, what should I get? Who should I buy from?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The best devices from a performance and reliablity standpoint are the premiere devices with batteries that last 5-8 hours and give consistent good throat hit. They do cost more initially but cost less over time due to the inexpensive batteries. They do not look like the real thing, however. That can be a plus as no one confuses you with smoking.

For much less hassle and better performance, regardless of size, stick with manual batteries over auto batteries.

For the best, IMO, smaller PV with manual batteries and good performance, I would go with the Joye 510. I would also get juice to fill your own carts and some extra atomizers. Here are a few well supported suppliers:

Home - Rocky Mountain Vapor you have reached the mountain top of electronic cigarettes!
Heaven-gifts.com Best E-smoking Shop
www.eastmall.net - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd
e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's

I read on here that the best vapes are the, ones that don't look like, cigarettes. I want one that looks like one too. So I may end up buying two ecigs. I am eyeing the dse901 platinum from, Totally Wicked. Heard great things about that site. I don't recommend Blu Cigs. Mostly from the bad feedback members got. I haven't purchased mine yet either. As I am unemployed for now.

Just a for warning. Most sites require pay pal. So make sure you have a pay pal account. It is free. If you have one great!

Definitely a 510 + PCC + extra attys and nhaler.com high voltage liquid.

Got my 510 starter kit from libertyecig.com. FAST and allows you to customize the starter kit regarding battery type & charger. Get a PCC "kit" and that will include an extra atty, battery and carts - $37 at libertyecig.com. (No, I don't work there, but he has an easy to navigate site, cheap or free shipping and offers good deals on kits and just about all the spare parts - one stop shopping. Not as big on the liquids he offers, but that could be me. I loved his peach flavor!)

Nhaler has a $70 starter kit w/ pcc and 1 bottle of liquid.

Nick, get a few extra atomizers. You'll need them while you clean others, or if one burns out so you won't be waiting on an order. I suggest getting a 5 pack if you can.

Also get plenty of e-liquid. Most use around 2ml a day or more. I was amazed when I bought my first 30ml bottle how quickly I went through it. Menthol can help with cigarette cravings. I never smoked menthol, but bought some after reading about it helping others get over the cigarette craving hump. It mimics a nice throat hit like you are smoking so I'd use it when I wanted a cigarette, and then went back to a tobacco flavored liquid for normal vaping.

cignot.com has the best price that I've seen for a basic 510 kit in the US. $35 for 2 complete 510s with a charger & 5 prefilled carts. I ordered one from them this morning because I need spare parts and another charger, and it's already been shipped. Terri has been very quick to respond to my e-mails, as well.

Since you said price is an issue, they would be my recommendation.

And everyone here knows how much I love my little 510. :) I even recommended it to my own parents. I'll get them vaping if it's the last thing I do!

If a site uses paypal for payment, that does not mean you need paypal. You can use a credit card to pay without having an account, thats why many online businesses were using paypal.

That said, paypal has been cancelling accounts of PV vendors here. You will find many are moving away from paypal, some willingly, some out of necessity. I personally recommend not using paypal anymore, so as to not support their actions.

I have a 510, and I think its fantastic. Its longer and thicker than a cigarette, but not by much. I'd definitely recommend a PCC if you're away from an outlet often, you'll get a few hours of use tops before needing to charge.

I would also recommend the bigger batteries - they work great, and I use the ones I picked up almost exclusively. I also picked up 5 more atomizers just as backup (nothing has died, and its been over three weeks). Be sure to get plenty of juice, remember its going to be atleast a few days of delivery time before you get more if you need to order it.

I also recommend getting juice of different strengths. Get some low, some medium, some high. Mix it up. You don't need to choose 18mg and only ever use that - you can use 24mg for that first puff of the day and after meals, 0 nic when you're taking a puff out of habit, 12mg when you want a bit of nic, and then some 18 or 24 when you're particularly stressed.

Whatever works, works.

Don't rush it - alot of us quit smoking right away, but some of us did not. If you continue to smoke a little while you get used to your PV, no big deal, take your time and get used to it. Thats how I thought going in, but I didn't really want a cigarette when I started with my 510.

Good luck! :D

Thanks for all the great tips and links everyone! Here is my plan (I think, lol!)

Get the $35 kit from cig not it has:
Included in this kit is 2 complete Joye 510 cigarettes (2 atomizers and 2 batteries), 5 prefilled carts, 1 AC charger. All that is missing is the big white outer box!
Cartridges are whistle tip.

Get the 3 blank cartridges from cignot. This includes the triangle tea bag thing so I am assuming I use that to fill my cartridges? Can the five originals be refilled also?

Get three kinds of refill liquid. I had planned on going with smoke liberation as they had a ton of flavors but just realized they are $15 per 10 ml bottle. Is this price worth it? How long will 10ml usually last? Any other options or recs? I am open to all flavors but plan on doing at least one menthol.

Am I missing anything here?

Thanks all!!

Nick

30ml for $9 with coupon code ECF. One of the best deals around short of going to a China supplier. These are PG based. Might as well give that a shot. A few people have issues with a PG allergy but it isn't common. Almost everyone has a bit of a sore throat for the first week or so.

2ml a day average for a person's use.

Don't forget those extra atomizers for your 510!!

The original carts and any blank carts on a 510 can be filled. Polyfiber can be found at Walmart or any craft store or you can try the Lipton teabags or organza nylon ribbon to restuff the carts. There are threads on both of those.

Very good advice. I would get a couple of extra atomizers at least for your first purchase. Plan on buying a few more and extra batteries a little later down the road. E-cig parts are not going to last forever.

NICE!!

Do you know what their Virginia flavor is? Is that just like regular cig flavor?

Flavor plan-
Virginia 24mg
Menthol 24mg
Watermelon 11mg
Apple 11mg

Do I need to buy pipettes or something to fill the cartridges? Also, when you say atomizer do you mean vaoprizer? Would one extra (3 total of batts and vaporizers) be enough? Would 2 be enough?

Thanks!! :D

Vaporizer refers to the whole piece - battery + atomizer + cartridge.

Three is good, it should work out well in a regular rotation - when I had just two, I had some moments where both batteries needed to be charged and I wanted a puff.

Its a good start, get a feel for what you want, and order some more liquid - and maybe another couple of batteries/atomizers - in a week or two. You'll have a better understanding for what you will need then, the strength, the flavor, etc.

510 TITAN Electronic Cigarette 5 x Atomiser Multi Pack - Black & White

Atomizers. You can get a 5 pack on discount there right now. These atomizers are orig. Joye product (which is suggested).

As far as the Virginia... I haven't tried it, but have heard good things. I also like the 555 (a nutty tobacco flavor) and the menthol.

No pipettes, just drip in from a dropper bottle. If you can find a glass squeeze bulb bottle, it works great to force liquid into a the cartridge filler. I get mine from a local herbary shop. They are also available on line and look like this 1 Dram Clear Glass Vial w/ Dropper - 1drm DROPPER Maybe look on eBay?

Ok so i dont need spare batteries? Its the atomizer would that usually fail correct? I think for now, Ill get the kit with two and buy an extra vaporizer for $20 and buy that 5 pack of atomizers if one of my three fail. That way, I have three now so i will always have one charged and have backups of the atomizer. Good plan?

Thanks again for all the help! Sorry for the dumb questions. :D
