Hey guys,

I've been vaping for about a year with basic setups and in the last 3 months or so started really getting into. I was predominantly a hookah and medwakh smoker and have been an active member of those communities for several years. I'm also big into the review game and started putting up some vape reviews.

Anywho, enough about me. I bought an inbox in svd and some Ultrafire 18650s from fasttech. Device works perfectly until I put an atty on it. On any voltage higher than 3.3 it will fire once or twice then short out. The entire device shuts down and the only way to get it up and running again is to remove and reinsert the batts. I've asked around already and the most popular answer is I need better batts. I'm going to head to my local shop (vaporus) and grab some imrs but I was wondering if anyone else has a similar issue or has heard of it. Maybe it's the device itself? Really don't want to have to deal with returns to fasttech as we all know that's a pain in the .... I've tried all different types of attys (nova, igo, ce4s, evod, etc) ranging from 1.8-2.4 ohms and they all react the same.

Any advice is good advice! Thanks for having me and I'm quite excited to become part of a new community as big as this one.

Welcome to ECF!

It sounds like you have already done the best trouble-shooting needed. It sounds more like the device failing than a battery issue. True, Ultrafire doesn't have the best rep, but I would think if you have tried at least a couple of them and it continues to shut off on you....it's more than likely the device itself. Your thought of getting a different brand is a good one (always good for other mods too).

Dump the Trustfire batteries.
Purchased the wife a new SVD locally and it came with a Trustfire battery- never could get it to work right with that battery.
Efest, EH, and AW batteries all work fine in it.

Oops. I should learn to read. IDK about Ultrafires- Trustfire is definitely flaky though.

Try loosening you atty a little. If they are tightened down to much it will say short on your screen. Also never buy any batteries with the word fire in them and I believe with the SVD you need unprotected batteries as the unit itself has protection in it. Search batteries on here. Also look up Baditude's blog. Nice explanation on batteries. If I am wrong on any of this, I am sure someone with more knowledge will come along and help you. Good luck & VAPE ON:vapor:

Tried everything you guys named except new batts. Every atty has the same issue, tight or loose. Both ultrafires have the same issue. I'll bring the device with me to the shop and try it out with the imrs. I know the have AW and Efest in stock. I know the attys are connected properly and until I fire them the device works great. Checks my ohms properly, all vv and vw features work etc.

Thanks for the quick replies! Loving ECF already.

You are just tripping the protection chip in the battery or the protection chip in the PV is all. This means that your atty is asking for more amperage than the battery or PV is designed for. (I would suspect the battery chip) Reduce your output voltage, and the problem will probably go away.

What resistance are your atties, and what voltage/watts are you trying to use them at?

Using a range of coils on several different attys from 1.8-2.4 ohms. Firing above 3.3V causes a short. I'm hoping it's the short protection in the batts getting tripped. Would be an easy fix. I can vape for a while at 3.3V but I like vaping around 4.3V on a 2.4ohm coil. If I'm chain vaping eventually it will short out anyways.

Another thing you might check.. Are those Protected Batteries that you currently have?

Most APV's (VV, VW types) Do Not Like protected batteries. That could be why you're tripping the Built In protection.

Everyone seems to forget to mention that little issue.

Yes they are protected. Are the IMRs unprotected? If not should I just get whatever the best unprotected battery? The svd manual says to use only imrs.

I did read somewhere in the PV Specific threads a while back, one of the "Ultra-Members" advised to steer clear of any battery/charger that has the word "Fire" in it's name... the majority of veterans agreed.
EFest and AW seem to be the most reliable and trusted around here.

Yeah, they're not very safe and high quality, don't be cheap on battery, buy the best !

    Read it all here :

this could be it right here. many of the newer APV's see the battery protection as a short curcuit and turn off.

most IMR batteries are unprotected but a safer chemistry. also of note is most protected batteries are not high drain, which is a requirement for regulated devices and this will also trip the circuits.
