Hello all, I am new here but have been vaping off and on for about 2 years. I tried the disposable ecigs first and went through them way too fast. Then I switched to a veppo pen style vault vaporizer. I started at 36mg nic and am down to 24mg on it. The battery on it is 3.2 to 4.8v and I have the airflow as open as it will go on it lol. It served its purpose as I have been smoke free for 8 months now. However I wanted to upgrade so I ordered an iStick 50W by Eleaf and an Authentic Horizon Arctic tank Atomizer Sub Ohm Subtank Comes with BTDC (dual) 0.2 ohm & BTDC (dual) 0.5 ohm coils! I know nothing about them other than they were recommended as a good starting point from what I was using. Anyone have any info on these? I want to educate myself while I wait for them to get here lol. So any info, tips, or tricks are welcomed. Thanks!

Howdy Jess, welcome to the ECF!

Well, that's quite the upgrade for sure, heh. I think you'll be quite satisfied with your purchase. That said, you won't be able to use the .2 ohm heads on the iStick 50W, as the lower ohm limit for the iStick 50W is .3 ohms, but that's not really a huge deal, as I'm confident you'll be quite satisfied with the .5 ohm heads.

When you first get it, make sure you prime your wicks/coils before you vape away. That is, take a few drops of e-liquid and just apply them directly to the coil/wicking material. 5-10 drops should do it. Additionally, after you've filled/assembled it (before you vape), it's a good idea to take some "primer puffs" (just inhale on the tank without firing it up). This will ensure that the wick and coil have adequate amounts of juice applied to them so that you'll avoid the possibility of a dry hit (which is both uncomfortable and horrible-tasting) which should also help with the longevity of your coils.

Lastly, since this is a sub-ohm tank (and you're likely not gonna be used to the huge amounts of vapor) start at a low wattage and work your way up until you find what's comfortable for you. Whenever I hand my sub-ohm situations over to new vapers I always turn down the voltage and give them a word of warning about not busting a lung trying to rip the thing.

Anyway, if you have any questions, you're in the right place!

Well, for one thing you will need to order some replacement coil heads; one coil head will last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on how much and what you vape.

Hello @CountryGirl_Jess , Moving into the sub ohm realm you should get juice in the 6mg or lower nic level. The delivery device is much superior to what you've been using and you'll consume twice the juice/nicotine. To save the juice you now have you could always mix a bottle of the same flavor in a zero nic with it. Mixing equal parts of 24 mg and zero nic will give you juice at 12mg. 2 parts of zero nic juice with 1 part 24 will give you 8 mg juice.

Here are some threads explaining why:

Oh yeah, I definitely should've mentioned this.

24mg will be way too much on a .5 ohm coil. Definitely gonna wanna dilute to cut that down.

Thank you so much! I figured I would have to start at the lowest settings and work my way up. I had to do that with my current system. I have/had no clue about the .2 and .5 ohm heads so thank you again that is!

Welcome :)
I find the 0.5 btdc works great on my istick 50w. I hope you like the new kit.
The flavor gets better once the coils break in, it can take upto 2 tanks ran through them to do this. I think you will definitely need the lower nic as it does produce quite a bit of vapor. You might also want to look into high vg juices as the throat hit from high PG can be a lot stronger with the bigger clouds.

Yes, the Arctic coils do tend to give off a funny taste for a bit but then it goes away. So @CountryGirl_Jess watch out for that.

Thanks! I ordered 50% VG for both the 3 and 6mg juice to start with. Not sure what that means still but that is why I am here learning lol. My old juice was 100% PG with my pen.
