Hello all,
I have garnered a lot of info lurking on the ECF and thought I'd register and post. What a great forum.
I stopped smoking 11 months ago after 20 years of analogs... pack a day for 20 years. I shake my head just thinking about it.
The first time I saw my buddy with a mech mod, I knew it would be my chance to put the cigs down. I asked him to build me one
and promised myself that the day it arrived, it would be my last day smoking in my life. i'm quite proud and grateful to say, i've kept that promise.
I'd love it if I could tell my vaping experience story and get some pointers from the ECF veterans. you don't know what you don't know, right? any help is much appreciatated.
My buddy, got me my first vape: a trident atomizer on a m16 mod from fasttech (I didn't know where he bought it from at the time). I kind of find it hilarious that he made $50 off of me but... oh well... what are friends for, right?
I since lost that mech mod and bought a k100 and a IGO-W atty to replace it. The first thing I had to learn about was about... batteries and my mod arcing. The k100 I have started mis firing... and when I brought it to my local shop, they told me that my mod was arc'ing. The button had some... black dust on it and I was pressing so hard on the button trying to get it to fire that I was denting my batteries. I was using some... red e-fest batteries at first. they recommended I move to the sony 10amp 2100mah. i don't think they were vtc3. at the time, and I've always had a 4 bay... Nitecore charger.
The guys at the shop sanded off the black soot on the button part of my mod and it did help with it firing more consistently.
Times have been tough of late so, I've been trying to get the most bang for my buck at all times...
The Sony batteries cost me about $15 each and I coughed up $60 for 4 that day. It feels like the way I use my batteries... they have a life span of about 3 months, maybe 4 months, before they start getting spotty. does this sound normal?
I guess it was about this time that I heard about the magical site called fasttech. it was a dream world for me after finding the clones that I had been seeing at local shops retailing for $80-100 to learn that they could be had for $20-30.
Batteries too, I was shocked to see that I could get Samsung INR18650-25R 3.6V 2500mAh for $12 a pair. Skeptical they'd be any good, I ordered 2 pair and received them after 2 months of waiting. they seem to be working fairly well so far.
The next mech mod I bought was the Private V2. I also bought the plume veil atomizer. I based that purchase on the price but... I guess you get what you pay for and the button mechanism on this mod kept unscrewing itself and eventually I lost the spring from the button. That mod has been sitting unused for a couple weeks now. I tried contacting fast tech to see if I can buy a replacement spring but the answer was 'no, sorry'. any ideas for how to replace this spring?
After the Private V2 fiasco, I started my search for a budget replacement mod again (I hadn't found ECF yet) looking thru all the reviews, I got a good vibe from the Stingray clone for $27, so I put my order in and... am still patiently waiting. it's been in the mail for 3 weeks now.
I have also gotten some box-mod envy. a few of my friends have ipv3's and I would love one just so that I could not have to carry extra batteries around. but i couldn't justify the $150 for an ipv3 or a cloudpor t8. but I did find the DOVPO E-mech selling for $50 and decided I would gift myself it for Christmas. It is in transit too.
I also found a reddit post listing Fasttech's best mods and atomizers and order the stillaire clone and the veritas clone too. so there's been a whole lot of waiting going on for me.
in the mean time, this Christmas, I was looking for budget juice online (I am in Canada so our juice selection is limited) and finally found a Canadian online shop that sells nicotine base for decent prices. (I understand that Canadian Customs has been seizing a lot of nicotine based stuff coming across the border). So, I'm diving into the DIY scene. I bought 250ml of 100mg PG base for $45 from northernnic.com. I vape mostly 6mg juice and have been trying to cut that down so, I think that the 250ml should last me an entire year! does that sound about right?
the flavouring and stuff was more expensive that I thought it'd be. I ended up spending $100. $40 of that was for 1L of VG and 500 ml of PG + 10 empty 10ml bottles and 5 30ml bottles + 4 1ml syringes (i think i bought too few) and some 10ml syringes.
$60 went to multiple different flavourings mostly in 3ml size. I figured I'd try to find out what brand of flavor makers I like the most before buying bigger quantities.
So.... that about does it. thanks for listening. How am I doing? am I missing something? heading in the right directions?
this forum has already taught me so much and I'm stoked to be a part of it. anything to promote people getting off of analogs, right?
cheers to a happy NY!
