hello everyone, i just got a ego-t ce4 about 3 days ago to help me kick a 16yr addiction to smoking. for quite a few years i only smoked a pack a day, however, in the last 2 years, due to being extremely stressed out over pretty much everything, i stupidly decided to increase my habit to around a pack and a half or more depending on how bad things got for me. at the suggestion of the really cute girl at the local smoke shop i frequent, she advised me to go with 12mg nicotine due to my preference of smoking pyramid menthol 100 lights, so i bought a bottle of tsunami 12mg nic menthol flavored[which, btw is stronger than a camel crush with the filter thingy popped] and a bottle of watermelon 12 mg nic also and went home and started vaping away. the 2nd [yesterday] day i made a remarkable improvement in quitting smoking, i only smoked 7 cigs from 6:30 am to around 8 pm that night and thats were my problem starts. as of today, im fighting a horrible demon. i cant stop wanting a cig. it doesnt matter how much i vape, its not even coming close to quenching my thirst for nicotene and im about ready to start screaming because i dont want to give in to myself and smoke a cig. so my biggest question to everyone is, did i ween myself way too fast? to be honest my massive cutting back wasnt intentional it just sorta happened and now im paying a really bad price for it.guess its true what they say, no good deed goes unpunished:(. thanks for any and all help its very much appreciated

I'm far from an expert, but I know I personally had to use min 24mg nic menthol when I started this ride in Feb. Im down to 6 now. I think you probably need to up the nic content in your juice to help kill the cravings. Just my opinion though.

**edit*** sorry for bad grammar ect.. at work typing on the down low.

First off, welcome to ECF and congratulations on making the switch! It's a process, and it's different for everyone. There is a lot more to smoking than nicotine that you're trying to quit. There are other compounds in cigarettes, and a whole psychological side to it.

It's not about the cigarettes you have, it's about the ones you don't have.

Take it slow, don't think that there's a magic formula like I'm only smoking 10 today, then 8 tomorrow. If you feel you need to have a cigarette, have one. Eventually you'll get to the point where you won't remember the last time you had a cigarette, or you won't. Some people have been vaping for years, and they still smoke. If you cut back from a pack a day to 5 a day, that's a huge improvement.

Best of luck :D

Some people cut back over a period of weeks, or even months. As the previous poster said, think about the ones you didn't smoke rather than the ones you did. Sometimes the pressure we put on ourselves to make a big change can make the forbidden even more appealing. If you give yourself permission to cut back gradually rather than all at once, you might do better. You'll probably find that cigarettes start to taste worse and worse to you, and eventually you just might not want them anymore.

Also, try some stronger juice. Maybe 18 or even 24 mg/ml.

and welcome to ECF!

Hi theunforgiven,

First off, welcome to ECF. I hope you find your travels here to be enlightening and entertaining to all things about vaping.

Everyone's experience is different, from the ways in which they start vaping/stop smoking, to the equipment and vliquids they prefer. There simply is no right or wrong way.

From what you've described, it sounds to me like you may need a higher mg. strength vliquid. If you can, get yourself some quality liquid in 18mg. and even a small bottle of 24mg. Contrasting cigarettes to vaping does not always equal out. Your fierce desire to smoke might just be alleviated by a higher mg. strength.

You said you went from smoking a pack and 1/2 or more a day to 7 cigs in one day?? That's remarkable and to me, a fantastic achievement!

My experience, in a nutshell... I started vaping AND I smoked consistently for 10 days. I did reduce the number of cigarettes per day, but I allowed myself to choose what I wanted in the moment.

That's my story. Some people do not light up a cigarette after their very first vape. While others continue to smoke occasionally for months down the line.

You cannot compare or contrast your experience. You'll get there. You'll be a vaper and a non-smoker when you are.

theunforgiven1 whats up ? welcome to ECF

sounds to me like you simply need to get a bottle of 24nic and a bottle of 18nic to go with your 12nic
then ween yourself to a level your comfortable with

a better tank and battery and you'll be on your way :)

I would agree on stronger juice, however I am not so sure about 24mg. I smoked about the same as you at your peak and 24mg mad me ill and light headed at times. I moved down to 18mg and have not had a cig since (3 weeks now). I went from an ego twist with a cheap tank to a 510 atomizer (this helped a ton also). Now I own a mech and am running a few different RBAs. The vaporite.com VR4 is all I crave now. Everyone has their own tastes. I think if you keep experimenting with juice and gear you will find it easier and easier not to smoke.

Good luck

1) Up your nic content. I was a pack and a half a day for 23 years, and used 2 levels when I started, 24mg for waking up, after eating, high stressed moments, rest of the time I used 18mg. I'm still at 24mg as my highest nic level emergency need a quick nic fix after several hours of not vaping, but stepped down to 18mg at work, 12mg when at home. I also continued to smoke a couple cigs a day my first two weeks, especially after eating and such when my urges were the strongest, but forced myself to smoke a third or half a cig at a time, just to appease my cravings for the other chemicals in a real cig, then vaped my highest nic liquid until the craving subsided entirely and was easy to maintain with my lower nic liquid at regular intervals, example every 5-15 minutes or so when home relaxing, take a couple puffs. You might also look into possibly when at work, nicotine lozenges, gums, patches, even snus to help keep your nic level maintained for when you can't have a vape or smoke break.

As stated above, don't be alarmed by how many cigs you continue smoking initially, retrain your brain is the primary goal, start thinking about all the cigs you did not smoke during the day as a win each missed =)

thanks for the warm welcome everyone.believe it or not but it actually helps.

ill definitely up the nic level next time i get a bottle of juice thats for sure. i just need to figure out how much though lol.
as i said before my massive cutback was totally unintentional but i didnt have much desire to smoke yesterday which totally took me by surprise as the last couple years ive been nothing but a prisoner to cigs. i couldnt go for more than a hour without chain smoking at least 3 or 4 cigs at one time, plus it doesnt help that i have so much time on my hands and i was only smoking out of bordom.

anyway, ill keep fighting with myself until i win:blink:

thanks again

Just relax and don't stress over it. It took me a week to go from a pack a day to 4 or 5 a day. The thing to remember is - whats really important is the ones not smoked. If it takes you a month to reduce the number smoked then that's what it takes for you. I was using 12% and 14% when I started vaping and I'm still at that level 6 weeks later but I haven't had a cigarette in almost 3 weeks. I still want one now and then but it's just not as important, I take a vape break and find that I have forgotten about wanting one. You are on the right road, just relax and it will all fall into place when you are ready.

Think of the money you will save. I like you smoked for 16 years, I am about to hit 30 days analog free. Here is what I did to help me it might help you. When I get the urge to have an analog I take my 32 mg nicotine juice and take a few puffs. Once you get over the urge you can go back to the lower nicotine level. This worked for me and still does. When I get up in the morning when I really need an analog I get my 32 mg nicotine juice and puff in that. It only takes 3 puffs, it will also give you that throat hit.

I smoked for 30+ years 1-2 packs a day and every time I'd think about quitting, I'd smoke more from the stress.
Tried the patch, gum, lozenges and cold turkey.
Even tried vaping and gave up late last year.

When I started vaping (20mg) again about 6-8 months ago, I allowed myself to smoke as much as I wanted, I just had to stand in the kitchen doing nothing else. Whenever I wanted a cigarette, I'd vape some first and then the cig wasn't as satisfying.

Cut down to 20 a day right away and focused on the ones I didn't smoke. I found myself putting smoking off longer and longer because I didn't want to leave the computer and go stand in the kitchen. After about month I was down to 2-3 a day. Made myself smoke 1 a day for the next month to keep me from thinking they were better than they really were. Found I didn't feel better after my daily cig after all.

After that, the only time I really wanted one is with my morning coffee and after meals. A strong slightly unpleasant tasting tobacco juice REALLY helped with that. Guess I needed the aftertaste.

That's how it was for me. I couldn't just stop. Some people can but I certainly couldn't. It was a process. Vaping is different from smoking and it takes some time to get used to it. Hell even changing cigarette brands is hard. Just focus on the progress, It took you 16 years to get that addicted, You're asking too much from 3 days trying. Hope you beat your demon.

whatever works for you I hope you quit cigarettes. The time you need a cigarette just pull out your higher level nicotine juice and take a few puffs once the urge is gone attach the lower nicotine juice and keep pidgin.
