Been vaping for about 2 years. My wife and I started so we could stop smoking ciggerettes. We were at 1.5 packs or so a day and just got tired of the smell.

We both started with small e-cig kits/carto's and aftera few months, changed to cignot's basic e-juice at 24mg with kanger's evo-d tanks and generic 1600mah sticks. We switched to the T3S tanks after a while and stuck with those for a long time. We are now both using 18mg juice and only use about 2.5ml a day.

The T3S tanks tend to come apart at the tip and leak. I've been buying them and breaking the epoxy if I can, then sanding out the inside of the tip and putting jb-weld in them to support the pipe and hold it together before it breaks. They they last until we drop them and bust them, vs a few weeks/months.

My wife is still using one of those modified tanks with the EVIC-VTC MINI 2.0. Got tired of the sticks starting hot and getting weaker by the end of a day, so I picked her up one of those and now she really likes it. Puts out consistent power all day long.

I've been changing tanks periodically to see what else is worth trying without having to modify them. I've used the Kanger pro-tank II, which used similar coils/heads, then I tried the pro-tank 3 which used dual coils, but didn't seem much better and now I'm using the sub-tank mini with a 100W eleaf iStick.

I used the OCC horizontal 1.2 and .5 coils that came with it and they did ok. Lots of vape and good flavor at/around 18-20 watts. Then I tried to re-wick them, then no matter what cotton or how tight/loose I wicked, they would burn on me. So, I ordered more coils to find they were vertical, which was also ok, but seemed to spitback quite a bit. So, I started tinkering with the RTA that came with it. I'm using the .5 coil that came with it, but have some 26awg kenthal on the way to make my own. Will see how that goes. I've rewicked the RTA about 10 times and finally got it to taste good, after watching may videos on youtube to figure out better what to do. I'm only running 11-13 watts though, so not getting huge vape like I did with the OCC's. If I go higher, the taste gets cooked out it seems. I can go to 20, but after 14, the popping/spitback is pretty bad and by the time I get to 18W, the flavor is gone. Lots of vape at 20 though, beyond 22watts, it burns. So, I started at 10 and worked my way up to 12.5 as it seems to give me the least spitback, most vape and decent flavor.

Anyway, that's my story and what we are doing currently. Hope to learn a bit more from this place.

Hello @olds97_lss and welcome to the forum I use this to figure my coils :Coil wrapping You can change the wire type, size, target, diameter and the steam engine will figure out the rest for you. I prefer at least 6 wraps on my coils. It takes a bit of playing to get them correct but once you do it's simple. I really like my Subtank Mini's and I only use the rba for it.

Learning to wick correctly is the same, it takes practice. I use Koh Gen Do cotton from amazon (60 sheets for $10 to $12). I usually get my wire from there as well, though www.Fasttech.com is good if you're not in a hurry (usually 2 weeks shipping).

Good luck in your journey.

Thanks for the info. I did use fastech a month or so ago. Ran across it here I think before I registered. Ordered a sleeve for my wife's evic and some pre-wrapped 4ohm coils/silica wick to use with my protank3... which is now collecting dust.

I did just order some stuff, but off ebay. 26awg kenthal and some cotton sheets. The cotton I have was also an ebya purchase, but is more of a tufted roll. Seemed to work ok for this, but getting it consistent is a pain. Was hoping the sheets would be a bit easier to get consistent.

I am guessing you'll do better with the sheets as they are very uniform in size and thickness. I usually cut off a strip (with the grain) 1/4 inch wide for my 2.5 diameter coils. I angle cut one end and start to roll it to make it easier to feed through. It won't take you long to get it right.

Yeah, I didn't see the grain in my first cut... that ended quickly and badly. I was just using the small square that kanger included with the RBA. Do people usually boil the sheets or just use them? I boiled the cotton I got before then wrung it out and left it on a fan to try for a day or so. Just wasn't sure what you do with the sheets to get the cleanest flavor.

My wife never cared for the cotton. Didn't like the flavor of the cotton itself. I never really noticed much difference between a rewicked kanger evo-d coil with cotton vs the silica that comes in it. It just seemed to me that the cotton did a better job of getting the juice to the coil and flooded less, so I'd always rewick my evo-d coils before even using them.

This is the cotton I have currently: Graham Cellucotton Beauty Coil

Didn't know I couldn't post a link...

Not sure what the stuff is I have coming in the mail from ebay. Has "Suporo Vape" on the bag in the photo.

Welcome to ECF olds97_lss. Boiling your Cotton is debatable; some folks do it and others like myself don't. I've never seen a need to do so. And yes Cotton works much better than Silica for wicking. Rayon works even a little bit better than the last two mentioned materials, but then again it's all about preference. What meets your taste buds the best really. Like with making Coils it's practice and experimenting that will render you the best experience. Main objective is staying away from the Stinky's, and Congrats you and your Wife seemed to have gotten that down.:)
Well hope you enjoy and learn all that you wish on the site. Great place I think for us Vapers.
See Ya around
