This hasn't hit the news yet, I just saw it on Twitter. State Senator Joe Vitale has effectively shut down the Vape Expo event in New Jersey and has issued this warning:

They could be stopping crime.
In NJ, vaping indoors IS a crime. Of course, in NJ, all sorts of of things are a crime that are perfectly OK in most other states. At one point, back around 1990, PA had these signs at all the Delaware river crossings:

I'm stunned that whoever organized the NJ vaping convention didn't know (and didn't bother to find out) that vaping has been banned in that convention center (and all other workplaces and public places in NJ) for more than 5 years.

But this is an excellent opportunity for the vaping industry (i.e. the ones who were issued citations in NJ) to challenge the the 2009 NJ vaping ban in court (by pleading Not Guilty to the citations) arguing that the NJ legislature disingenuously and improperly redefined the word "smoking" to include the use of smokefree vapor products, and to point out that vaping poses none of the risks to the public that secondhand smoke poses.

If you say so. That's simply not reality...
I've won quite a few court cases by going for civil rights violations. Juries are tired of government bullying people. Even anti-vapers understand that a vaping convention is not for people scared of vaping. And people see that as a misappropriation of funds, sending cops to spoil a convention. With the other problems Jersey has, those cops had way better places to be. Huge waste of time and taxpayer money to be a thorn in someone's side.

Again, why are you sticking up for the anti-vaping crowd?

if vaping is so dangerous then why is the board of health endangering the health of police officers
To protect all the vapers on the floor of that expo center from themselves, of course. Farmers need to protect their livestock.

Based upon P Busardo's second interview with the conference organizers at
Taste Your Juice | VAPE EXPO NJ – WHAT HAPPENED?
and NJ Senator Joe Vitale's interview at

it appears that the Edison Convention Center management misled the conference
organizers about the NJ law (which banned vaping in the Edison Convention Center)
to secure the six figure rental contract and fee.

But the conference organizers (and/or their purported lawyer) should have known
that vaping was banned in the building, especially since at least one e-cig company
owner in NJ warned the conference organizers that vaping was banned in the
building prior to the event.

It appears that whoever plotted the scheme (of claiming that vaping was allowed
in the building because it was a private event, and to require attendees to sign
a form to become club members) was the culprit.

But this still may be an opportunity to challenge the legality of the NJ vaping ban
(if someone who received a citation decides to fight this in court).

I just saw a post on the NJ Vape Expo FB page. Seems that the problem was, the event organizers didn't get the necessary permits. The event organizers and the health officials met behind closed doors for awhile, and then an announcement was made over the PA system that the ban had been lifted and it was OK to vape on the event floor. So even though today was a bust, they've still got tomorrow, the last day of the event.

Excessive punishment for use of excessive force?
They protect themselves when they do wrong. The worst form of treason. We are in the Bible Belt, when an officer or a politician puts their hand on a bible and takes an oath to uphold the constitution (not the law) and to set an example, it is taken very seriously. Violating that oath is treason, the only punishment for treason is death. If we can make it stick, the people will take back their government. For the people, not big business.

The place looked pretty hazy for no vaping going on. It actually looked as expected, which means I will never go to a vape expo, unless I decide to get into the black t-shirt business- men's sizes only, but none larger than xl...
I think it has been announced the NJ wine festival will take place in a dry county...

People were vaping anyway until the "health department" showed up with the police. That's why it's not as hazy as it should have been.

If they are claiming to provide an area to vape and it doesn't exist, then they don't have the right to prosecute you.

I'm sure vendors paid for spots expecting to be able to demonstrate their products. Without that option, would they have paid? No. The health board made up bs rules that they did not have the right to and used traitors with badges to enforce them. A criminal system enforcing criminal "rules" to discriminate against people that didn't want to fork over a criminal amount of taxes to smoke. Simple nazi policies discriminating against vapers.

Why are you sticking up for them? If the people stick up for their rights, they could cost the "board of health" and the cops enough money to make them leave vapers alone.

If you say so. That's simply not reality...

Senator Joseph Vitale was there in person to oversee the bust and spoke to the promoter:

"The promoter told vendors that customers were allowed to test products containing "zero nic" or no nicotine on the expo hall floor, Vitale said. "He's wrong. It's more than just vapor. There are other chemicals to worry about," he said."
Health officials bust vendors, promoters at N.J. e-cigarette convention for indoor vaping | NJ.com

From the same news story:

"A thick fog of candy-smelling smoke hung in the air inside the cavernous hall filled with rows of tables and elaborate displays of nicotine "juice"and vaping paraphernalia. There was a DJ stand, pole dancers and neon lights.."

The usual crap about harmful chemicals and ecigs appealing to kids and this from a senator and a major New Jersey news source! Also, irrelevant info about pole dancers and neon lights, trying to associate vaping with "immorality".

Edit: As one the commentators on the NJ website also says: "How could there be thick SMOKE when e-cigs only produce water vapor?..."
