When I bought mine I was using it right away until it died, then let it charge overnight. The key with most Li-Ion batteries is they have a "memory" so when new they need to be trained. This applies to all devices using these, cellphones, laptops, etc.

use it, let it drain and die, its ok if it doesn't fully die, but then give it a full charge. Repeat this process 3 or 4 times and you're set.
