Hi,

I'm the latest newbie, and I've dropped in to say "Hi", and ask a coupla questions.

Firstly, I've just ordered a "Sky" starter kit @ £40.00.
Now, I see Amazon stock Starter Kits for £6-6.50.
Should I claim my "No hassle" refund, and go with Amazon?

Also, I'm perplexed by the Vets attitude to vaping!

I see the e cig as a tool to smoking cessation, whilst the Vets describe it as a hobby!

I imagined one used the e cig as an aid to quitting fags, and then, when one was sure
one had DEFINITELY stopped, the e cigarette to be the next priority to go.

Quite brutal, really, but I GOTTA stop smoking!

Anyone care to advise me, and put me right, please?

Warm non-smoking regards,

Glen.

Hi and welcome. I don't know what those kits are that you are considering but I would guess that they will not fill your needs for very long. You probably would be better off to get something with better parts availability such as a 510 kit from a dealer that offers a warranty on your purchase. Here's a link to one that others find robust and easy to use:

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

I am not sure who the vets are but this vaping can turn out to be a hobby rather easily.

A lot of people enjoy vaping so much that they have no desire to quit.

Good luck to you and stick around to ask any question you might have.

Welcome to ecf!

I am also not familiar with the kit you purchased so I will refrain from offering advice on that matter. I would like to respond to the "hobby attitude" you mentioned. Let me begin by saying that I really didn't start vaping with the intention of quitting smoking. In my case I really didn't think that was possible. I had been a 2 pack a day smoker for 40 years and all attempts at quitting were failed attempts. I picked up an ecig out of "nerdy curiosity" with the hope that it would allow me to save money by cutting down on the number of cigarettes I smoked. I was amazed by how much I was able to cut down on smoking immediately. I only smoked 3 cigarettes the first day I vaped. I continued with this attitude for the first few weeks, limiting my smoking to about 5 cigarettes a day. It wasn't long before I found myself skipping my regularly scheduled cigarette due to the fact that I actually preferred the flavor of vaping. By this time I was totally hooked on the concept. It was then that I started my serious research into all the options available. I have since quit analogs altogether. I have upgraded my original overpriced kit with a more affordable eGo and added a REO to the equation. Experimentation with different liquids has added both excitement and disappointment to the experience. Although I have settled in on 2-3 definite all time favorite flavors, I still like the excitement of hitting a homerun with a new flavor option. It has been a lot of fun reading the ecf forums....I am still learning something new every day. Yes, I guess you can say that vaping has become a hobby with me at this point. But more importantly, it is a hobby that I will be able to enjoy for a long, long time since I no longer have the health issues associated with smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes were never this enjoyable. They were never a hobby....just a horrible addiction that I couldn't rid myself of before I discovered vaping.

Check out the UK forum suppliers on here. Read as much as you can before you make your purchase. Yes, most people enjoy vaping and feel no need to quit. Some reduce the nicotine level and continue, others quit when they get to 0 nic. I just quit the cigarettes one month ago. I do not see myself quitting vaping in the near future. It has become sort of a hobby for me, collecting my juices and more equipment. I do not have a problem with that at all. I enjoy vaping, and appreciate that it allowed me to put down the cigarettes for good.

I switched to vaping to protest the constant rises in cigarette taxes. I'd like to say it was because I wanted better health and to live longer, but it wasn't. I was tired of them raising taxes just on smokers to avoid having to raise them on something everyone uses or on income. It's harder for a small group to fight back than a whole state population. And the great majority of people don't have a problem with a sin tax, it makes them feel even more superior that they don't have the awful habit. I didn't plan to stop smoking ever until I did this out of protest and I'm so glad I did. I looked at it like changing brands instead of looking at it like quitting something I loved. I'd changed brands many times to save money so it was an easy way to look at it and not feel like I was denying myself anything. That being said, my health has improved dramatically, I have more energy and don't smell like cigs any more. Plus this is way more fun. I can have gadgets I love and get my nic fix, plus the flavor options are terrific. And I don't have to feel guilty about it, especially since I'm saving money. A lot of people do use it to quit smoking and then gradually stop vaping, and from what I heard it's a lot easier to stop vaping than smoking.
