Well you are doing this for a very valid medical reason. I think a high resistance (less vapor and lower wattage) setup may be easier for your lungs to handle, and there isn't necessarily a requirement that it NOT be fixed wattage. A lot of folks starting out seem to like the Innoken T series (T-18, 20 and 22) I believe and get a satisfying vape from that. I vape MTL (no huge setups not tons of vapor) but I do prefer tanks and mods (with adjustable wattage) because it is more versatile and I actually find many aspects EASIER to deal with, such as priming a coil, where I can start low wattage and work my way up, for example. Fixed wattage requires a different priming process.
Pod mods can be easy to use and often times you can get good flavor. You pay for that privilege but sometimes it's worth it. IDK. Most vapers try a few different things, so mainly I'd say keep an open mind and try some things along the way, you will get to your happy place and it's good to have at least one or two backup devices on hand.
I wish you the best of luck quitting. I was very near COPD when I switched to vaping and it was the best thing I ever did. Don't get overwhelmed and just keep going until you find what suits you best.
