A relative of mine has been vaping for at least a couple of years and every time he comes in for a visit he would go on and on about how wonderful it was. Then he would talk about his equipment which looked so complicated and even more expensive. I thought "What's the point? You're just exchanging one expensive habit for an even more expensive one." I was never interested.
Then my brother got into it this summer. He had a simple two piece device purchased at a retail store that cost only $19.99. He raved and raved about it and told me if I wanted to test it out to get a disposable but that he would never recommend using only disposables. I picked up a Krave disposable at Rite Aid and puffed on it all day. I loved the taste and the feel to it. The menthol was more minty than menthol. I loved it. They claimed 500 puffs but I barely got 100, if that. Even so, I didn't crave a cigarette the whole day as long as I had the device.
I then began doing some research on kits which ultimately lead me to this site earlier this month and I became a lurker. I saw that Volt was recommended quite a bit as a good starter kit and it was something very simple, more my style. I ordered one from Smokeless Image along with some cartridges and the rest is history. I had one last pack of cigarettes that I couldn't see going to waste so I finished smoking them, one a day, and just finished the last one this morning. I've been vaping for about two weeks and I dreaded having to smoke that one cigarette a day. They just started tasting horrible but I'm a penny pincher and wouldn't just throw them out. I couldn't believe the difference and wondered how I was able to tolerate those nasty things day in and day out for 23 years! I must have been insane.
In just the two weeks I've been vaping, my sense of taste and smell have improved so much that I feel bombarded by all of these "new" smells and some foods I used to love are just too strong now. I can only imagine what I smelled like for the last 23 years after smoking 1 to 1 1/2 packs every day. I am so glad that I took the plunge and I'll never go back to smoking regular cigarettes again...nasty.
I am very happy with my Volt starter kit. Thanks to everyone who recommended it on this forum. You helped me make a wise decision!
I have ordered a pass through for when I'm sitting at home and ordered two extra batteries. Since the hand to mouth part of the habit was the hardest for me every other time I have tried to quit, I've found that the smaller cigarette style is all that I need. My brother now has a cigar style device. I tried it but it's just too bulky for me. I do love reading about all of the other devices though and maybe I might decide to upgrade in the future but right now I'm just happy that cigarettes no longer have a hold on me!
