Thought I would introduce myself to this wonderful forum, my name is Charlie and I took up vaping about two months ago. I was previously a pack-a-day+ smoker for the last 6 years or so, and had been wanting to get into vaping for the last 2. I didn't want to start out spending much money, so when I saw the "X-Hale 02" at 7-11 I figured I'd give it a try, for only $20 if I wasn't a fan it wouldn't be that much money down the drain.

Since then I have cut down to 2-3 cigarettes a day, and have noticed and increase in energy and can breath MUCH better. Every once and awhile while drinking I'll end up smoking more than a few Cigarettes, and am punished by that awful out of breath feeling I previously was so used to. My "cheating" days have become few and far between, so hopefully in the near future I'll be able to cut out cigarettes completely.

I looked around this forum for information on the X-Hale 02, while there was some talk of it, there didn't appear to be the wealth of information available for other brands. Very understandable as the X-Hale is looked down upon for being cheap and low quality, but figured I'd give some info on it for anyone that was looking into it.

The X-Hale is a 3-piece unit with a battery, 4 cartridges, and atomizer. The starter kit comes with the previously mentioned items, as well as a USB charger, short "manual" if you could even call it that, a case, and a atomizer "cover" which is just a translucent white plastic cartridge with no internal juice reservoir.

Since the X-Hale is the only model I have used, I can't really compare it to others, but personally I have been very happy with it. Vapor production, judging by the hundreds of videos I've watched, us up to snuff producing very large clouds of vapor. Flavor seems great to me, but as I said being the only model I have used, I can't compare it to others.

Battery life is very good compared to reviews I have read on other "mini" style models. I usually get 3-4 hours of heavy chain vaping before I need to recharge the battery, which takes about 2 hours or so.

I lost mine while out one night, and purchased one of the "E-Hookas" which is basically the exact same thing, except it is all black, and comes with 4 different flavors (IIRC Vanilla, Strawberry, Grape, and Cherry) Although they do not contain any nicotine.

As far as I can figure out the design is the same as the M40X models, so Atomizers and batteries are interchangeable. Although, it appears that the cartridges are NOT interchangeable (meaning, you can't use an M40X cart on the X-Hale atty, and vice versa) because of the specific design of the bridge on the atomizer (the M40X models have a shorter, fatter bridge)

I have read a few posts were people claim that you can't refill the cartridges for the X-Hale, which I found not to be the case. The mouthpiece contains and internal cartridge that holds the juice, so all you have to do is remove that, and refill it with the juice of your choice. Works perfectly in my experience, although I do prefer to just direct drip onto the bridge instead of using cartridges, so I have a bunch of re-filled carts sitting around that I probably won't ever use. Replacement cartridges are a complete rip-off at $15 for 10, so refilling them is the best idea if you are set on using carts and not just dripping.

Overall I would say it's a great way to test the waters. I am planning to get an eGo or other similar model once the funds surface (I'm currently laid-off) but for now the X-Hale is working great for me. I have about a month of use on my current atty, and it's still working great. I have not yet had an atty or battery die, even with pretty heavy use, which would lead me to believe these are of decent quality considering I have heard of people with 510 attys and batteries dying on them in less time.

Anyway, just figured I'd say hi. Sorry for the long winded post, I just figured I'd let everyone know where I was coming from. The post limit to post out side of this forum is going to be a bit of a hassle as I don't like to make short little "that's cool" posts, so hopefully I'll be able to think up some questions to ask to be freed from my newbie's prison here ;)

Peace,
UncleChuck

Hello and welcome UncleChuck!

So, are you from Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine???? Either is great, of course, but I'm always especially happy to see another vaper here in the lovely Pacific NW!!!! Vaping just doesn't seem to have caught on here yet, but I'm hopeful it may become more popular soon . . . speed the day!

You will find great advice and a wealth of information here, but as with many things, you gotta just try some stuff and eventually you'll find your own "vaping nirvana". I'll throw my two cents in and say the Vapor4Life ROCKS. They sell KR8081D batteries which are fairly popular here, although it seems the Ego enjoys a slightly bigger following. Haven't tried and Ego yet, but for now, I am a V4L girl all the way! I started out with a Blu cig, which is much maligned here, although I'm grateful to my lil' Blu for getting me away from analogs (2 months smoke free!!!!)

As many have said, whatever gets you away from analogs is a GOOD thing. I hope your financial situation improves so that you can try some different stuff if you like.

Again, welcome and Happy Vaping!!!!

I'm glad it's working for you. I just need to say that the 402 and it's recent clones which more likely what this is do produce a fair amount for vapor. The primary complaint is that the cartridges don't hold much and battery life. Twenty dollars is in the ballpark for retail. Don't pay much more though. They can be had on dealextreme for less than $7. If you find the battery life and cartridge volume too short, remember there are solutions to that problem.

Mickyrat,

Yeah, the carts barely hold any juice, but I just drip now so it's no worry. Customized one of the carts into a stubby little drip tip, which I prefer as the vapor is warmer and flavor seems to be better with your mouth closer to the atty. It seems the distance the vapor travels has an effect on flavor, or maybe it's just the warmer vapor. Not really sure, but I do prefer it this way.

ZeldaKitty,

I am indeed in Portland, OR. Gotta love the PNW ;) No other place I'd rather be. The only other person I've seen vaping is a friend's brother, I had no idea he was into it, but after telling my buddy about vaping he told me how his brother had been for awhile.

I called around a few local tobacco shops and many actually carry vapes, but after looking online at the brands they weren't great, and they were overpriced. I have vaped in a few restaurants, as well as Fred Myer and Safeway, with nobody harassing me yet, so I'd guess the employees there have already seen people with them. Most of them must be hiding though, because I have yet to see anyone else vaping.
