New members post requirements just lead to clutter.

I think the original poster's point is that the rest of us have to wade through all the new members' first five posts when we're catching up with new posts every day. It becomes very time-consuming, especially when those posts are of no importance to the subject of PVs. I think the OP was merely commenting on this, rather than complaining. And I'm not complaining, but it does add more time that we all spend when reading this forum. This requirement also adds a ton of messages that will show up when searching in the future. I don't think the OP was worried about ECF's server space...

I am a mod on several other forums, and spam sucks for sure. But I agree here, once I get caught up and not looking for a specific answer I use the new posts feature 99% of the time. Usually a members first post is good, introducing themselves, but the next four are just fluff.

Maybe we could keep the new members forum out of the "New Posts" tab in some way. Not a big deal, I usually click on all of them and do a "fluff check" anyway.

I used to have a stock market blog and trust me spam is a big part of any site. Filtering it is for the benefit of the readers as much as anything. Would I come on this site if it was filled with spam? No chance. Would it be filled with spam if not filtered? Trust me - no question. There would be so much spam on this site if not filtered it would make this site useless to readers that wanted legit info - without any question.

If you don't like the filter write your congressmen and ask why morality and values were stopped being taught in public schools 30 years ago. Other than that, spam is not going to stop as it is boils down to the basic concept of right and wrong.

Whoa you have to teach your own children morality and values? you can't just kick back and let someone else fill your childrens minds with what they think is right and just and good? seriously? , im just pulling your leg, personally i am happy to teach my children what has value and the difference between right and wrong, their school can take care of the history/geography/mathematics etc and i will deal with the important stuff.

2 down 3 to go? yay ;)

Indeed, as a former moderator for other sites, i know that having to scrub just one forum clean of spam is infinately better than having to constantly check every forum.

Dont forget, that a lot of newer members come here for advice. (Myself included) I dont want to see missleading/false/scam information on a site like this. What ever makes it easier to keep clean, for the moderators, i am 100% up for.

Anyone else find it ironic that someone is complaining about someone else posting on a forum? I might be missing something, but that is kind of the point. Besides, not every post can be something to provide revealation to another. Most posts, on every forum, are just chit chat that is loosely on topic with the OP... If your lucky.

Although, there are a few gems out there.

It started with the end of corporal punishment in the schools and it's been downhill ever since. It's practically assured now that public schools have fully adopted the pc policy that nobody is responsible for anything.

True enough. I got "the swat" a "few" times while in school... I would say I knew I deserved it every time but once...

I shouldn't have started on this topic as it will get people all riled up... lol.

I'm still pretty new, but I know about running a large forum, and this is very well-run. Spammers are unbelievable, and you can be sure if there were not some restrictions, they would over run the forum and you would all leave. There's a fine line between making new members feel welcome and preventing spammers from taking over.

Thanks to the old-timers and experienced vapers who post in here and help others get started. I read here a lot, there's a wealth of info.

Believe me, you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes unless you've run a large forum.

I see that the responses here are from unrestricted members, so at least the new members forum isn't just filled with new people aimlessly asking questions.. so thanks guys :D

Just starting a tread in the noobie section can get you past your 5 with in one day.
You just keep replying back to who answers your question, with more specific details, and there you go.
Your on your way!

Besides everyone likes to share their knowledge and talk with each other.

Guns are good (I really mean guns are good :)), but Religion comes in at #1 IMO. Nothing gets people going like something you have to believe in as opposed to touch see or smell.

I understand the need to prevent spammers, but I have very specific questions about specific e-cig models. As a responsible forum user, I do a little research before I make a double post. When I find a post that pertains to what I need but doesn't cover my exact question, I can't post on it, and instead have to waste time and server space by making frivolous posts such as this one

One down, three to go!

One way to get your post up is to ask questions from anyone -- it could relate to their avatar, their signature, etc...

Exactly! It was merely a facetious way for me to gain 5 posts and raise a valid question that will, understandably, never be resolved. Fulfilling my requirements by calling them into question.
