Hello and welcome to the forum Kent. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding battery safety and Ohm's Law are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

My first coils were disasters too.

Be sure you have the same number of wraps on both coils.

Try to get both of them the same shape. It is easiest to move the wire when they are hot. If you have ceramic tweezers you can manipulate them while you fire them and if you do not have ceramic tweezers fire the coil to heat it up, stop firing, and then adjust it while it cools down.

Watch videos on you tube. There must be thousands and it really helped me to see someone else build. Your build never looks as huge as a closeup on a big screen.

I use magnifying head gear so I can see the coil almost as big as the you tube video.

They get better and easier with practice.

Well your post gave me the urge to try a dual coil build again. I used 28G round Kanthal, 6 wraps around a 1/8 drill for each coil. By the time I got them lined up and compressed the build came in at 0.8. One coil is ugly as sin but they fire up evenly. Good cloud and good taste. I think we just have to keep practicing and eventually we get to where the coils are close enough to identical that they fire evenly. Keep trying.

Thanks for all the advice. I do have an ohm reader and now coiling using a 26 awg. Will try to get my hands on ceramic tweezers. I'm using an IMR 26650 MKNE battery. When i used the ohm calculator, it says min ohm resistance is > 0.2. Therefore im always trying to build at least 0.5 above just to make sure i'm on the safe side. After i did my own coils, X amount of time, i still cant get it to taste as good as the first coil did by the shop tech although the ohm resistance are similar. Does the gauge affect the taste even if the ohm resistance is the same? Example 26 awg 0.8 ohm and 28 awg 0.8 ohm. Will the vape the same?

if you are setting up dual coil, both coil should be identical in shape and also distance from the post on both negative and positive. if one leg is longer one of the coil will fire slower. after they are firing almost at the same time, you need to squeeze the coil after they are fired and no longer red to get rid of the hot spots. you should see the coil glowing from the center then out.
