With the old system, if I stayed away for awhile, there may be twenty plus pages of new posts. It seems that the new site only allows ten pages, at least for me. I just know I am missing out on ECF goodness.

We're aware of it. We're working on other things in the background and when we get a chance, will look at the default displays for search. In the meantime, as you read, those posts will be cleared from the list allowing you to bring new threads into the New Posts list.
Another way to increase the likelihood of reading what you want to read is to place the forums you never go to on ignore. This will prevent the posts in those forums from being displayed to your New Posts list.
